Palo Alto psychiatrist Jim Sampson has built a successful practice in the heart of Silicon Valley. But when his sexy patients start killing themselves unexpectedly, leaving behind messages suggesting he drove them to suicide, Sampson is faced with disgrace and probable prosecution. While fending off a hard-bitten police lieutenant and dealing with his own disintegrating marriage, Sampson must save himself by finding out what really happened to his patients. A motley cast of characters, including a venture capitalist with ties to a Russian oligarch, a widow whose daughter killed herself and whose son is keeping a secret, a Stanford professor whose specialty is stalking his female students, and assorted backstabbing colleagues, stand between Sampson and the shocking truth. As he discovers, Sampson’s attempt to learn why his patients died might cost him his own life.

Grave Accusations is a fast-paced psychiatric thriller set in Palo Alto, the heart of Silicon Valley. Jim Sampson, a darn good psychiatrist, is faced with the suicides of three of his patients--who, he maintains, were not even depressed! How could this have happened? Nearly everyone thinks it's due to his mistreatment and he must battle patients' families and colleagues alike to protect his professional integrity, not to mention his own sanity. Using the skills of a sleuth as well as those of a therapist, Dr. Sampson manages to solve this mystery, carrying the reader along with him on this spine-tingling psychological roller-coaster ride.
Kept me reading late into the night

Thought I would just read a chapter before bed - no such thing. Hours later I was still reading, hooked by the story. Garrity has created an appealing protagonist and keeps ratcheting up the tension, making it doubly difficult to put it down. Until now, I thought psychiatrists had a repetitive work life, listening to their patients' petty problems - same old depression, insecurity, and guilt. Garrity puts it all in an entirely different light - dangerous, edgy, and unpredictable. Loved it!
Great start, then nothing

Don't really understand all of the 5 stars. Yes, the first chapter was great. Emotion charged followed by perplexing events. But from then on the pace slows way down and we must grind through mind-numbing conversations with no cogent direction. I wanted to put myself in the protagonists shoes and sort through the facts so I could solve the mystery along with him but I finally had to give up. His is not a sharp mind, failing to grasp both the situation he was in as well as how to control the direction it needed to go. Why read about a idiot who lets himself be a victim? I only made it to 50% complete on my Kindle so I assume it does eventually come to a satisfying conclusion. One star for that and one star for the first chapter. Can't recommend this one.
slow and repetitious

this book started out really interesting. the storyline grabbed me right from the start, but unfortunately declined rapidly about a third of the way in. from then on the story bogged down with repetitions of the same conjecture over and over again. the story became mostly told by the main character's narration with very little dialog. in addition there were too many superfluous descriptions of things that had absolutely nothing to do with this story except to pad it and make it longer. the ending and the murderer was very obvious and anticlimactic. with a good editor, someone who would streamline this book it could become a fantastic read!!
Original, interesting, well-written, kept me interested

I enjoyed the original plot and appreciated the descriptions of the cynical politics of a circle of psychiatrists, who valued conformity over truth, loyalty over kindness. The characters were well-drawn. I liked the protagonist. I guess none of those statements are likely to set prospective readers on fire, but I would like to recommend this book, which kept me interested until the end.
