5.0 su 5 stelle This book had me laughing, crying, and begging for more. 4 novembre 2014
Di Julie Baswell - Pubblicato su Amazon.com
Formato: Formato Kindle Acquisto verificato
When Dan was eight-years-old, his mother died unexpectantly, and he went to live with his grandparents. He grew up very close to his two cousins, Matt and Ashley, and their friend Lizzie. When his grandparents died, Dan moved to London and withdrew from everyone. Then he finds out that Matt, Ashley and her parents have disappeared while on an outing on the family yacht. While on the job, Dan loses his cool on a suspect during interrogation, and is suspended. He comes back home to find Matt’s parents have died from a botched home invasion. With his entire family wiped out, Dan feels that it is time he learns all the family secrets that were kept from him for many years. With the help of Lizzie, and her father Charlie, long-time family lawyer and friend, Dan discovers just how far back the secrets go, and just how far his family would go to keep them.

This book had me laughing, crying, and begging for more. The pure evil in the villain was superbly done, and made me hate him for the things he did. The technical descriptions felt too long though. I finally started to skim over them just to get past them, since I couldn’t really visualize totally what was being described. I felt like the story was well written but long-winded. Even so, I didn’t want it to end and I hope the author continues the story.
2.0 su 5 stelle Decent plot, but just sort of fell flat... 12 febbraio 2015
Di Shannon W. - Pubblicato su Amazon.com
Formato: Formato Kindle
The Great Carrier Reef should have been an interesting read. The premise was good. A family endures unimaginable tragedy while protecting a family secret. One that can topple governments but bring about lasting climate change. People would kill for this technology and it seems that they already have.

Dan Morris comes back to his Florida home to bury his beloved Aunt and Uncle who were murdered during what appeared to be a robbery gone bad. But nothing seemed to be missing from the home. Money was in plain view and nothing had been taken from the family safe. Not all was what it appeared and Dan was determined to discover what happened to his family. He follows the clues to discover what his family has been hiding, even from him, all these years.

What could have been an amazing thriller turned out to be less than spectacular. The characters were flat and a bit boring. It took so long to build up and reveal what the secret was, that by the time it happened, I didn't care. I just wanted it to be over. The suspense scenes were anything but and the conclusion was a little too "happily ever after" for my tastes.

The authors excessive use of the exclamation point was somewhat laughable as well as the use of profanity where it really didn't belong. There were also a few typographical errors that a good editor should be able to take care of and didn't really detract too much from what story there was.

I would give this two stars out of five. The plot was solid and it was a good attempt at a thrilling suspense novel. But it fell just a little flat and took too long to get to the climax. Instead of flowing from logical point to point, it jumped around all over the place and ended up being confusing instead.
5.0 su 5 stelle Great Read 28 febbraio 2015

I do not know what to say about The Great Carrier Reef by Phil Green except that it was an awesome read. I could not put this book down and as such, found myself going to work on 2 hours of sleep. This is a great thriller and mystery. Phil Green does an awesome job of giving very descriptive details so that you are able to visualize the scenes as they play out in the story.
I like a book that keeps my interest from the get go and this book has done that. I did get a little lost when the book would jump back in time with no warning. That is the only thing that threw me, but it did not take long for me to catch back up.
I give this book 5 stars because even though it is not my usual genre, I would happily read it again and recommend it to all of my friends. If I had the paperback of this book, I do not know if I would have been able to resist reading the end of the story. I wanted to know how it turned out that bad. There was a twist that I did not see coming, but it worked out very well.
4.0 su 5 stelle a great read, if slow at times 6 gennaio 2015

This book was a delight to read. The plotline was so interesting and the twists and turns it took had me constantly surprised and intrigued. However, It was a little slow to get going and some parts, particularly the descriptions of different settings were a little wordy and technical and I had a hard time continuing to read them in order to get passed those sections and back to the main story. The build-up of the characters led me wanting more even though at first they seemed to be too-perfect but as they were led into the different situations throughout the book they became more and more real and believable as characters. An excellent book that anyone looking for a thriller would enjoy.
