Marlayna Glynn became an unlikely voice for childhood suffering when she burst onto the literary scene with OVERLAY, the Next Generation prize winning memoir of her early childhood in 1970s Las Vegas. Then came ANGELES, the author's account of her dedication to construct the life of her dreams.

Now is the author's testimony about how the sins of the fathers threatened her with a long-in-coming crippling depression. Readers will find AS ALL HELL an urgent enlightenment for adult children of alcoholics everywhere. In bold fashion featuring her heartbreaking honesty, the author records the trials and surprises she faced with single parenthood and resultant clinical depression. The author's prose creates a lasting impact on readers driven to understand the lingering, indelible effects of an unfortunate childhood.

Marlayna Glynn Brown is an American author, speaker, and award winning photographer. Immediately upon publication, Marlayna's first memoir, Overlay: A Tale of One Girl's Life in 1970s Las Vegas, was honored by the 2013 Next Generation Indie Book Awards with an Overcoming Adversity award. HASH(0xa2eae75c) su 5 stelle Love, rejection, and love again 22 marzo 2013

Marlayna Glynn Brown's third volume in her trilogy describes her battles with savage depression and her constant hope that she can find someone who will love her as deeply and as a truly as she loves them. When her relationship ends with Michael her psyche attacks her with the ferocity of a rabid wolf, nearly killing her. Her mother's failure to offer help at this most desperate moment of Marlayna's adult life staggers both her and any reader with half a soul. It is a moment replete with all the disappointments of a lost childhood condensed in one brutal realization that our deepest desire for some people to be more than they are can shatter against a reality colder than an arctic winter. Marlayna literally crawls out of depression one millimeter at a time and resumes her life. This memoir is a journey in self-examination lived not as a victim but as a searcher always hoping that the universe will smile the next day. The author asks several questions of herself. Perhaps the most searing query is "Why am I not enough?" The answer suggested is that finding someone who sees any one of us as enough is a challenge that may consume a lifetime. And, perhaps, even more critically, is that moment when we find that we are more adequate than we believed, that those who reject are more deeply wounded or lost than we imagined. Marlayna's tale is compelling, painful, joyous, and riveting.

This is the 3rd book of Marlayna's life story. Marlayna, your story was written so beautifully, and I hope you know that with each book I read in this series, I learned allot about myself. It's been a healing avenue for me. I still deal with low self esteem, and some depression, but this book helped me to see that everyone has problems, and they deal with them the best way they know how. Some people in your books took self-destructive paths, while others chose positive steps. I'd say I'm somewhere in the middle of those two extremes. While I realized that time softens pain, this book showed me that there are other things I need to do in order to become truly at peace with myself.....peace comes from within. No person or possession will bring you happiness.

I went through some pretty tough times before and after my divorce. I didn't handle it well because I kept trying to obtain love from emotionally unavailable men. A relationship is not necessary for survival. I didn't need a boy friend or husband at that point in my life. Your book helped me to see that I need to forgive the people who have hurt me.

I could relate to Marlayna's parents, however I wasn't subjected to near the pain she dealt with. Just like Marlayna, I had the same type of ex-husband. This book made me see that I am not a victim, and it's the choices we make that determine that.

I loved the way the story ends, but I can't say anything about that because it would give too much away. I'll miss this author's stories and I really hope she continues to write.

She's a good storyteller, but her story turns into a string of romantic encounters and loses much of the realism that was evident in the first book. I felt compelled to follow her story to the 'end' of the series, but the second two books do not compare to the first.

The memoirs of the author should all be in one book. The first book was terrific and the 2nd book was barely okay and the 3rd book was only okay. The author tended to ramble and took us on a winding journey that really served no purpose to further the story. The little titles of each chapter wasn't bad, but the author tried too hard to make each of her stories fit the title.
It was nice to know how some of the people in the book turned out, but because I was unengaged, I didn't even remember who some of them were and the book isn't that long.
This book should be re-edited to tighten up some storylines and cut out some of the musings of the author that really have no point.

If you like to read TRUE stories of REAL people.... If you want to read a TRUE story about someone who has fought for her kids & her right to happiness, has overcome & triumphed over some of, if not all, the negatives & bettered the positives... then may I suggest to you one of the most perfect of such stories?
"Big As Hell And Half of Texas", is just such a story. You can't help but put yourself, in your minds eye, in Marlayna's shoes. You will laugh, cry, scream and cheer her on. You will live for the moments in her life that were the most mind boggling at times and then see her triumph over it. You will feel what she felt. Who knows, you may even be able to relate. Give "Big As Hell And Half of Texas" a read. You won't be sorry. OH, have your box of tissue near by. Enjoy.
