Jenny Hilborne has worked in a variety of fields, including the retail music industry, residential real estate, commercial real estate and finance. She was born in Wiltshire, South West England, and relocated to Southern California in 1997. Madness and Murder is her first novel, a thriller set mostly in San Francisco and the first in the Inspector Mac Jackson series. Her second suspense novel, No Alibi, is also set in San Francisco featuring betrayed spouse, Isabelle Kingsley. Mac Jackson returns in Jenny’s third novel, Hide and Seek, another San Francisco thriller, which takes place over Halloween. Jenny is working on her fourth suspense novel; this one a break from the previous settings and set in Oxfordshire, England. Once I started reading this book, I couldn't put it down. The plot is intricate and with a less developed lead character could have been difficult to follow. However, the characterisation of Inspector Mac Jackson was so exquisitely done that his analysis and detection made perfect sense and brought all of the threads together beautifully. I read quite a lot of crime fiction and would definitely rate this among my favourites of the moment. I would highl;y recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good crime thriller which keeps you on the edge of your seat right to the very end.

I've read all 3 books by this author, and having loved the first two I was worried in case the third one somehow didn't match up to my high expectations. I needn't have been concerned though, as Hide and Seek was without doubt just as good. I love the way the 'murder' took place in spooky woods near a mansion at Halloween ... that got my attention immediately, and automatically I was engrossed in the story and gripped throughout the whole thing, wondering at the start whether it was an actual murder or just a disappearance, and then later on wondering who was responsible. It was also interesting, and different, to hear the majority of the story told from the detective's side.

I would really recommend this book if you like Murder Mysteries that are slightly different and not your usual run of the mill.

Can't wait for the next one!

This novel is the 2nd in the mac Jackson series, and is even better than the 1st. The only problem I have with it is that I can only give it the 5 stars. From the very start this book had me guessing as to who the villain was, I found my self talking to my self , trying to figure it out. This is another book that must be read and I promise you will not be disappointed .

A brilliant whodunnit that had me gripped from the begining. I thought it was a really good story that kept me interested & engaged. There were plenty of interlinked relationships throughout the story & lots of characters that made me not want to put it down!!!
A really good read, I will be reading more of this writers novels

I am a fan of Janney Hilborne. I have read all her e-books. This story deserves a higher rating; however, the three stars are so I can mention two caveats, both of which result from the lack of “one last read through before posting”. I know this because it often happens to me. First there are places where a character is in a scene where he or she cannot be, or else a mention of them coming there. Second, almost all the transitions are jolting. No separation between major scene changes. Both are easy to fix.
Story wise, it is fast–paced and interesting. Good characters, nice twists, keeping Mac and Red scratching their heads and the reader turning pages. I recommend the book and am looking forward to the next, which I hear will be set in England.
