5.0 su 5 stelle LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THIS BOOK! 5 luglio 2016

So, I have had both of these books for quite awhile. Just sitting there. Waiting to be read. Not sure why I never read them until just a couple days ago when someone told me READ THESE BOOKS. NOW. DO IT. And that is the same advice I offer to anyone that has not read them yet.
I have read some less than stellar reviews.......some that say what kind of parents allow their underage children to smoke and drink and do drugs right under their noses? I actually had some friends' parents that were ok with that, so it is not unreasonable to assume that it never happens, because it does. It is also not unreasonable to assume that at the age of 9 or 10 or 11 you can fall in love with a boy and hope that he'll wait for you. I love Dusty! Yeah, he's basically a what? Preteen and teenage boy? Yes, that is exactly what he is. One that smokes a little weed as he's growing up and hangs with the wrong crowd. It happens. But he is so lovable, while at the same time you want to hate him for what you know is coming.
And Bliss is just that young girl who falls in love with her best friend's brother. She can't help it. Can anyone help who they fall in love with?
This story takes place over several years and its interesting watching this group of kids grow up throughout the story. How they change. How they make the choices they make. How they survive their teenage years.
If you had the perfect childhood growing up, this book might not be of any interest to you. But if you grew up with real preteen problems and friends and issues, you might just love this book.
Drugs and alcohol are a reality and this book shows that. Having parents that are either overbearing or nonchalant are a reality and this book shows that, too.
But, if you just love to read angst-y characters that have hopes and dreams and flaws, you need to READ THIS BOOK. DO IT. NOW!
Dusty and Bliss were born for each other. Does it matter what kind of problems they have along the way? Maybe. Maybe not. But they have real problems like the rest of us and they learn how to cope the best way they know how.
This book is so worth it........

I refused to write a review until I read the second book. Not because this one doesn't deserve it, but because I simply couldn't take the time to write words before finishing the story. Dusty and Bliss are life. Love, hurt, passion, brutal honesty and lies and addiction. The best friend, The boys, the S, the rules, banana popsicles, baseball hoodies , and beaches thy all come together, give each other life, just to lie and hold back and piece together. They are perfection in their utter lack of control. For a few short days I was in their world, now that I'm done, I'm not sure how to come back to reality. I will certainly be coming back to this world, these characters, this pain. (Trust me this book hurts, it will pull at your heart, shatter your soul and make you crave more) the characters are young in age. But not in action, they are products of the real world and are a true representation of all consuming love, angst, addiction (in all its forms). --I'm not so good with words, what I'm trying to say, is this is a book well worth reading. :)

“Don’t you get it, baby?”
“What’s there to get?” she asks.
“That I love you.”
“Well, you have a s*** way of showing it.
I smirk. “That doesn’t make it any less true.”

Whelp. That was quite the story. Dusty Innocents is a book that has been sitting on my kindle for ages. I decided it was finally time to give this book a shot. I had no clue what to expect from it other than drugs and a frustrating male lead. And I got a huge amount of both.

Innocents is the story of a young girl named Bliss, spanning from elementary school aged to early high school years. She has been in love with her best friends brother for as long as she can remember and he loves her back. But Thomas is surrounded by drugs and bad influences and he himself succumbs to both. The two also have their families who would not be okay with them being together.

“We’re attached in ways I can’t comprehend. While everyone else expects me to f*** up … she just loves me. And I’m reckless enough to let her.

She’s my softer side, and I’m her motherf***** monster.”

I have to say, this was a very compelling book with interesting characters. While reading I found myself really needing to know what would happen with Thomas and Bliss. What I didn’t care for was the writing style, it felt like I was trudging through mud to get to my destination, in fact this book took me three times as long as it normally does to read a book. I didn’t like the constant switching of names for nicknames or describing words. Plus, I felt the plot was very weak as it never really went anywhere. I know there’s a second book, but I didn’t really get the point of this book.

I felt this book also portrayed how bad parenting can ruin a child for life. If I ever become a parent I pray I will never be like the ones in this book, letting their children get away with what they did, and even encouraging it. Our actions affect others and it’s important to remember the impact we can leave on a person.

As I said before it’s very compelling and unique which is why it still merits a 3 star rating from me, despite my issues I did enjoy reading this book for the most part. There’s just a lot going on that made it a difficult book to read. I definitely want to see where this goes and I am going to read the next book asap. Hopefully it clears up some things.

“Because love is a lot of things, but above all, love is what we make it. And we’ll make this never ending.”

I ate this story up! I'm head over heels in love with Dusty and Bliss. Their story is intoxicating, heartbreaking and most of all a roller coaster ride of emotions. My heart is pulled in every direction when it comes to Dusty and his behavior. What he does to himself, his family and towards Bliss is frustrating. He is so lost and he's been negatively influenced by his environment. In this case his parents. He fights so hard and falls so low. Bliss is also struggling but with Dusty and his lies. She wants so much as does he. Their love is everything! Possessive, freeing, jealous and real.
Mary and Sarah Elizabeth's prose is flawless and they depict young love to perfection.
I need to read the sequel. Now.

I do actually have some hard limits when it comes to books. That said if a book is well written I'm over it.

This doesn't feel like a spoiler to me - no plot reveal, just a heads' up; my hard limit is the glamorising of drugs. I have experienced the harm it does to families and any book that portrays drug use in a positive light I will read but I might hate it. No glamour here.

Drugs, sex, teenage angst, rage, obsession. All featured but love, Love is true. Love is Dusty. Love is Leighlee Bliss.

I watched EK Blair on a Facebook chat say this book was amazing. I respect her views immensely and downloaded it to my kindle immediately, but then it got swamped on my kindle. Holiday reading is about finding my hidden treasure.

This book is a tough read. I make no bones about it. I found it distressing, upsetting but always I found myself compelled to read more. I loved the writing style. There is a particular way the authors describe a characteristic of a person and then use the same description as a noun. It has to be read to be appreciated.

Thank you EK Blair for the recommendation. A journey into why sometimes limits are limiting and horizons can be stretched.

"The space between us is made of winter wind, inconsistency, and guesswork."

"Love feels like tingles and Sundays. It's a tightness in my chest and an extra beat of my heart. Love is completeness - sappiness. Better than the best chocolate ever. Love gives me tickle-chills and super high, high, high smiles. It keeps me from sleeping. It makes it hard to breathe, blink, care. Love is indescribable, cumbersome, silly-selfish, consuming, life-changing, goose bump-giving, knowing-all-the-words-to-the-song exciting, I-can't-think-straight-without-him overwhelming, sigh-swooning, laugh-out-loud-for-no-reason anxious."

"Fading into nothing, weightless and exposed, I sink into gray cotton and die by his touch."

Innocents left an imprint on my heart.
