Live young. Live hard. Love deep.

Charley Redford was just an ordinary girl until Jake Caplin moved to her small town in Indiana and convinced her she was extraordinary. Almost from day one Jake pulled Charley into the deep and promised he was right there with her. But when a tragic incident darkened Jake’s life he waded out into the shallows and left Charley behind.

Almost four years later Charley thinks she’s moved on. That is until she takes a study year abroad in Edinburgh and bumps into none other than Jake Caplin at a party with his new girlfriend. The bad-boy-turned-good attempts to convince Charley to forgive him, and as her best friend starts spending time with Jake’s, Charley calls a truce, only to find herself tumbling back into a friendship with him.

As they grow closer, the spark between them flares and begins playing havoc with their lives and relationships. When jealousy and longing rear their destructive heads, Charley and Jake struggle to come to grips with what they mean to one another.
And even if they work it out, there is no guarantee Charley will ever trust Jake to lead her back into the deep…

4.0 su 5 stelle The witty banter alone was worth it... 25 febbraio 2016
Di Lenore L Kosinski - Pubblicato su Amazon.com
Formato: Formato Kindle Acquisto verificato
4.5 stars -- Another book devoured! I was a little bit leery going into this book, b/c while I enjoyed myself reading Ms. Young's paranormal series, they didn't blow me out of the water like I was expecting (and they had some reoccurring pitfalls that didn't work for me). But I know her Adult Contemporary series is highly acclaimed, and since I had this little NA contemp gem on my kindle already, I thought I would give it a go and see if she could surprise me.

And seriously folks, it was like I was reading a different author for me. I was completely enraptured by the characters, and totally engaged with the story. Charley may just be one of my favourite kinds of heroines -- while extremely vulnerable and generally f'd up from her past, she is still one hilarious and sassy smartass. I LOVED her character traits and I thought she was portrayed beautifully. The banter between Charley and Jake (mostly in the past flashbacks) had me just in delight -- right from their first meeting at the bonfire. Now *that* is chemistry. I LOVE when two characters just seem to fit together and you can see what draws them to each other.

I think in the end I was actually more drawn to the flashback story than I was to the present story, and wouldn't have minded even more of that...maybe it was more what I was in the mood for. I just loved the buildup of their relationship and how they almost made it together despite so many obstacles. In the present...well they're both kind of f'd up, kwim? The past has really done a number on them, particularly Charley, and so watching her deal with her feelings could be kind of heartbreaking. Actually no, not just Charley -- Jake is just such a different guy in so many ways. He's almost meek. And while they are still so drawn to each other, it was hard to watch what they were doing by allowing themselves to spend time together despite how unhealthy it was. In the end I found I was somewhat less engaged with that part, and it kind of dragged out a bit longer than I was anticipating... So while I'm interested in where the story is going in the sequel, I'm not sure it will be able to top all that young love magic that we got in the flashbacks in this book.

I also found it really weird how Charley saw Jake as a "bad boy". Was that because of the sleeping around? B/C he really wasn't much of a bad boy otherwise. That kind of confused me.

Great cast of secondary characters in this one. They were all so colourful, and I really enjoyed some of the other friendships that Charley developed, particularly with Lowe. That boy needs a HEA. I'm on the fence with the Claudia/Beck storyline. While I'm interested, it's also been drawn out longer than I was expecting. I do love Claudia and Charley's friendship though, and really love how they are there for each other.

Even if the sequel doesn't live up to this one, I'm so glad I finally found where Ms. Young's strengths lie...well, at least more match up with me anyways. I will definitely have to bug my Partner in Crime to borrow On Dublin Street and find out what all the fuss is about with that series. :)

5.0 su 5 stelle I love Jake and I hate Jake 16 marzo 2017

So many mixed feeling in this book. I love Jake and I hate Jake. I love Charley and I hate Charley. I hate the way Jake strings Charley along and I hate that Charley lets him. I love that Jake can't seem to leave Charley alone even though he should, but I hate the emotional tug of war that it causes.

Jake and Charley's relationship is pretty intense and when that first sighting after three years happens you can feel the emotional turmoil that Charley is in. I am not usually one for flashback books, but I love that every other chapter is looking back and that it seems to go in line with what is happening in the present. The author does an excellent job in keeping you in each time frame.

Love this book.

5.0 su 5 stelle Absolutely Amazing 30 settembre 2013

I absolutely loved this story. I found myself wishing it wouldn't end...and then it didn't. Yes things are on the road to recovery by the end of this book, but there is a follow up book. I am hoping there is so much more of the story between Charlotte (Charlie) and Jake as well as Claudia and Beck. This story and Samantha Younge in general grab the reader by the heart and squeeze. The characters and feelings are so real and raw and funny that I could not put the book down. I related to Charlie throughout the book. I felt the anger and hurt that she experienced from Jake, but I also felt the sympathy and jealousy she felt about Jake's new girlfriend Melissa. It was heart wrenching and beautiful at the same time.

The story begins with Charlie attending her first party in Edinburgh during a year long college foreign exchange. Stunned, she sees the boy who devastated her heart in high school. Jake was the one, the love of her life. Jake promised her forever and Charlie gave him everything and then Jake broke her heart and all of his promises after a terrible accident. Jake is in Edinburgh on foreign exchange as well but brought his new girlfriend. Charlie cannot believe he is there but realizes that she and Jake made plans to go to Edenberg together three years ago when they were in love. Charlie is heartbroken all over again seeing him and seeing him with Melissa. With each chapter, the story flips back and forth between Edinburgh and three years earlier to Charlie and Jake's relationship in high school. My only drawback with the book is that when the characters are in high school they are only 16. They are written so much more maturely than 16. The story is still amazing and I know 16 year olds today are having sex, but it is still difficult to associate the relationship with 16 year olds, so I pretended they were 18 while reading it.

Jake and Charlie are thrown together in Edinburgh because they share similar friends. Charlie respects Melissa although it is painful to be around them. Melissa tells Charlie that she understands her pain but that Melissa has helped Jake through the aftermath of the accident. Jake seems jealous of Charlie and other men so Charlie is confused throughout the book. Jake still loves Charlie, slipping up and calling her Baby when they speak. Jake feels like he cannot be forgiven for how he crushed Charlie after he promised that she was the one and that he would love her forever. You can feel the tension and heartache from both characters. Then there is Chalie's best friend Claudia and Jake's best friend Beck. The tension is also there between the two of them, as Beck is a ladies man who does not believe in relationships. But Beck wants to be around Claudia and supports her when she finds out a secret about her parents.

I was disappointed that I could not finish the story of Jake and Charlie in this book, but I am also excited that I get a whole second book to explore their love story. This book made me feel. I literally felt their love, pain, and need. Samantha Younge is a fantastic writer. Into the Deep is as good or better that On Dublin Street. Fantastic! Cant wait for the second book in this series!
5.0 su 5 stelle Angst in spades 11 giugno 2017

As a lover of all things angst, this was like striking gold..Jake and Charley had it all...and then they had nothing, now they are living right on top of each other with obstacles that add to the angst Richter scale in epic proportions. The back and forth between these two, the glimpses of what they had to where they are..gah totally addicting. I couldn't put this book down. I flew through the pages thinking I would get the answer to the age old question "will they or won't they?" but NOOOOOO hello book two.. CLICK and let the devouring begin. LOVED IT!

Because some reviewers were finding the jumping back and forth of timelines in this book a negative experience, I chose to read only the present day chapters. I did not miss knowing the teenage heartbreak backstory. I like this main character, Charlotte/Charley from small town Indiana, a lot. This boy who wrecking balled through her later teenage years, Jacob/Jake. . .so much these days is built on the ephemeral appearance of male characters. He's handsome. He does not come off as the prize Charley has built him up to be. The fact that he has ruined her for all other men. . . I'm not seeing it. She's smart, energetic, brave and self-directed and he's kind of a parasite. I liked her kind, gentle love interest option in Scotland -- he was worth exploring. Maybe that romance will go somewhere in the follow-up book that finishes this story, but I cannot take a second book of twisted, manipulative Jake. A shame.
