A book you will of want to put down!

I have read many of Elizabeth Camden's books ,and each one has taken me on an amazing adventure to another time and place. I absolutely recommend this book to anyone who wishes to escape and become enveloped in another era.My only regret IS that I had to read them so quickly,because I couldn't bear to stop. Which only means that I will have to read them again so that I can savor each and every one.

The author has very capably given her readers a story filled with danger, chaos, homelessness, and confusion, as well as courage and determination. Things changed for Zack and Mollie when they found themselves caught in the Chicago fire. This captivating story will stir your emotions as you see the strength and determination of this 26 year old girl who will not give up on rebuilding her watch making business from the ashes of this fire. Despite the challenges, she would face this situation bravely. Sit back and relax as the story unfolds. Of course, there is always the choice level-headed Mollie had to make between Zack and Colonel Richard Lowe. I highly recommend this book that is not tainted with foul language or an immoral lifestyle.

I think that having Zack and Mollie's story set against the Great Chicago Fire and its aftermath was very interesting. I enjoy when history becomes alive to me through good historical fiction, and to learn more about that time period was fascinating.
Of course, the characters are almost always my favourite part of any story. I thought Zack was a bit of a loose canon at first, but he seemed to settle down a fair bit over the story. However, I think it was Mollie who really changed the most. She went from being very firm in her routines and business, to understanding that God doesn't usually lead us in the 'smooth roads' of life, and that as long as she was trusting in Him, she would be safe.

Another masterpiece by one of my favourite authors. Camden has the incredible ability to breathe life into history. Fascinating details of 19th century Chicago and the great fire is an enthralling background to this compelling story. Rife with contrasting emotions, Mollie and Zack and a cast of intriguing secondary characters make this book memorable. I was committed from the very first page, anguishing over the gnarly bits, praying over the hopeful ones, and cheering at ending that left me cheering. An exceptional read for historical romance lovers everywhere.
