Sinossi

WINNER OF THE 2012 UTOPYA CON AWARD FOR BEST VILLAIN

I don’t open my eyes so I can’t see him, but I can smell him. He thickens the air I breathe, choking me with his scent…his aroma. I shiver. I have to resist. If I’m not strong, then I will be relegated to the same fate as this predator whose sickness infects me even now. But now, I crave him and he knows that; he has been counting on my need to end the gnawing pain. How he would savor my surrender. I’m alive, but how much longer will it take until I beg him not to be?

This one was wishy washy for me. Some characters are developed and well thought out (mainly the "background" characters) and others are your general run-of-the-mill Mary Sues that bring nothing to the story, but seem to get all the focus (-cough-Evie-cough-). I honestly think this book/series could have been good if the author chose pretty much any of her other characters to follow aside from Evie. She's too self-sacrificing and matyrific for my tastes and I was honestly tired of hearing about how "strong" and great she was while she was getting tossed around. Can't handle the additional love interests etc etc etc. I don't know why authors need their characters to be loved by every male they come across, but it is a tiresome trend.

Anyways, if you ignore Evie, the main protagonist, the book is quite good. However, since its from Evie's POV there is quite a bit of ignoring one has to do to get to that conclusion.

“Evie… where are you? I need… I need you… I can’t exist without you- you have to come back to me,” Reed says and the pain that those words contain cannot be measured.

Uh, the feels and heart tugs this book brings on! So beautifully written. Amy Bartol weaves an amazingly creative and fascinating story with the most interesting and charismatic characters. This series has everything you want in a book and then some.

More than 3 stars, less than 4, really. Maybe 3.8?

This is not a good book to read if you haven't read the first in the series, yet. And you may want to skip my review if you haven't read the first book and are highly allergic to spoilers- it's almost impossible to talk about the plot in Intuition without referring to developments from the first book, Inescapable.

We are still following along with Evie and Reed's angsty YA romance at the opening of this book. (And it's light on the angst at this point and heavy on the heavy sentimentality) Evie is stuck in Reed's house until Buns and Brownie (too little of their hijinks!) convince Power Angel guardians extraordinaire Zephyr and Reed to take Evie snowboarding.

And then we embark on a long, for me unecessarily detailed, section about the security precautions they take for Evie's safety and go on and on about how amazingly strong, agile and graceful Evie's getting (but still not strong enough to handle any lurv from Reed. The conceit that he would break her if they tried to do anything physical sort of becomes unbelievable at this point).

Once we get past the snowboarding lingo and the safety precautions, as well as a short jaunt into Evie's human-becoming-angel soulmate, Russell's POV complete with pages of transcribed accent that made me wince (and don't get me started on the Gancanagh accent) then the story took off.

As much as I dislike the whole "I must leave him because I love him" reason to split up a couple, the whole leaving town to travel through the U.P. and make a life with Russell while dying on the really worked somehow. When she found the cell phone and called her voicemail, I lapped up all the romantic Reed messages, and had to say "aww" to Buns' message.

Add the Irish Vampire-like undead Gancanagh as the new, big, bad (much more interesting and sympathetic than Alfred) in the story reeled me back in, hook, line, and sinker.

So there's overused tropes, and annoying accents, but Evie is starting to become seriously kick-ass. And despite her Mary Sue "every male who meets me likes and wants to protect me" status that makes humans, Gancanagh, and Angels of all caste make things nicer for her, she does get the opportunity to bring on the pwnage several times in the book. Adding the Gancanagh and their undead army as a way to force Reed and Evie into exciting situations really wakes up the plot.

So while the first third of the book made me think I would give up on the series, the second half of the book convinced me to go ahead and buy Indebted as well.

This Book's Snack Rating: Still like eating a bag of kettle chips for the addictive, salty taste of YA angsty love and kick ass heroine

I just met the characters Evie and Reed that Amy A. Bartol created less than 24 hours ago, and I am back at work and just bought book two. I was just telling a coworker that this book is now vying for second place on my favorite books list (after Pride and Prejudice). I want to scream from the rooftops "Read The Premonition Series"! There were a couple of typos but none that slow down the read, and if it wasn't for working my shift I'd have finished it in a few hours it was THAT good! I am 38 3/4, and I was HOOKED on these characters! No sappy nonsense, just hot, hot, passionate, intense heat. Like in Pride and Prejudice it's more in what DOESN'T have to happen for there to be passion and desire. Don't get me wrong there were some steamy scenes but nothing Shades of Gray going on, because the story doesn't NEED it, that's how hot these characters are, excuse my French, but it's a total mind rhymes with duck. I quite literally clapped my hands with glee and lol'd all day and stayed up late because I just couldn't put this book down, and wth is this book only $2.99?! This is the next big thing, trust! Put this on your book club list and SHARE on Facebook, because I NEVER want this series to end! Amy A. Bartol, look for my review on my blog, keep them coming!

After reading the first book, Inescapable, I had to continue with the series. Let's bring up some points that I have read in some reviews. First one, the language of Russell. Yes I agree with you that it is taxing but so is the language of the Gacanaugh. It can be hard to understand and get through but get used to it because if you continue reading this series you WILL see it again. Second thought, how can Reed fall in love with a teenager? How can Brennus, Reed, and many other creatures see Evie for something much more than what she seems to be? Because she is and now so is Russell. I believe that somehow the story is going to escalate to show Evie and Russell for who they are. Something extraordinary. I believe that the character development is wonderful in the first book and continues to evolve and show the strengths and weaknesses for what they are.
The twist in this book with the Gacanaugh is nothing short of a good imagination at work and again it will all work together in the end, at least I hope it will. Without giving too much away, I love how Russell becomes the hero in this book and we start to see how their souls long for each other. I am torn between who I want to win the girl and I know that this is not over, even with Evie binding herself to Reed.
Everything she does, she does it to protect the ones that she loves.

I have read the third one already and cannot wait for the next installment of this series to surface.
