Alice is getting old but she really doesn't want to admit it to anyone least of all herself. Her daughter Karen is delivering her to a retirement home but she might just have a battle on her hands to get her mother to actually stay in the home.

I chuckled over this short story and winced as well in sympathy with Alice. The other characters in the story are brought to life in a very few words but the reader can still picture them clearly. I enjoyed the story and thought it was cleverly constructed.

Interesting stories of life in a Senior's Home from a nurse's viewpoint, as well as from the resident's viewpoint. I appreciate that no foul language was used. I only gave it a rating of three because I felt it ended too abruptly. I would have liked it to be longer. Would like to read other books from the author.

This is a really well-written story that provokes both tears and laughter. So clever, so masterfully crafted, so intriguing that the reader is left with numerous mixed feelings that should be analyzed and sorted out later.
In fact, in so few words the author has portrayed so many 'hot' issues in such a natural and convincing style, which is something to be noted indeed.
On the other hand, it has a great moral behind the good laugh. We should perhaps think about age more from the human point of view and not just as a social 'problem'.
Moreover, presumably, wisdom usually comes with age, so we need to acknowledge and respect such people.
If we go further with the latter issues, we might even see that even some young people act or live as if they are very very 'old', but immature in their intellectual development. And vice versa!
Finally, the only thing that I still missed was some more info about the wonderful author herself.
Nevertheless, overall I could simply say:
'Well-done'!

Grandma doesn't see the need to retire to a nursing home despite the fact that she is feeding tea bags to her cat, Bella!

Under some pressure from her daughter, she goes to the nursing home but will not be staying. She is "just looking" to placate her insistent daughter. While waiting for her daughter to do some paperwork, she has reason to meet a few people and engage them in conversation. Slowly, she begins to see how it could be less than horrible.

I found this short read to be very entertaining. It was told in a manner that both made you feel sad on the one hand, but forced to laugh on the other. The author did a wonderful job of presenting this difficult situation with humor and compassion.

I found myself smiling at various points in the book as we took the journey through grandma's eyes from "definitely not" to "well, maybe"; I would definitely recommend this wonderful short story to all readers!
