Ogni brano merita. Assolutamente consigliato.

5.0 su 5 stelle Darker Sexier Tove Love Making Music. 1 gennaio 2017
Di robhartj - Pubblicato su Amazon.com
Formato: Audio CD Acquisto verificato
I remember when Tove Lo shot into the stratosphere with her debut album. It was one of the best albums of 2014 with its unique and insanely catchy collection of songs. It is still one of my favorites. But the question remained, could she keep it up with her next album? Its been an interesting few years since then. The music industry is ever changing more than ever nowadays with trends and genres coming and going. Music is being released constantly by so many artists that I honestly forgot about Tove for a majority of it. Then finally in 2016 she released her lead single for the sophomore album. "Cool Girl" had a sexy video with her new image. It is a catchy sexy song but it didn't hype up the album much. It never became a big hit leading to the albums release like "Habits". I didn't even know the new album was out mostly because I was busy. In fact I used to type reviews on a regular until this busy year. But after I suddenly needed a Tove Lo fix and realized "Lady Wood" was already out, I hunted it down in my city and gave it a good few listens. I am so glad I did. She's gotten darker in tone and even sexier. Here is my track by track review of what I believe surpassed her debut masterpiece by far. Believe it!

1. Fairy Dust (Chapter 1): Its the first of two interludes connecting the different parts. What I disliked about the first album was her 5 second spoken word interludes. She has fixed it this time around. This interlude is just atmospheric music introducing you to the world of this album. Nicely Done. 9/10
2. Influence Feat. Wiz Khalifa: Things kick off with such seductive and classy production. The second the bass hits you know this is an instant classy dancefloor song. But this is Tove Lo, and her kind of dance is unique. The chorus is her teasing but never really hitting the high notes she is known for, yet it works so well on this song. Sadly the vibe is nearly ruined by a very short guest verse by Wiz. I don't hate Wiz, but his 15 second verse added nothing to the song. Luckily she rebounds with her final chorus. I'm sure the unneeded Wiz collab will make it a possible hit single. Still a near perfect pop song done right. 9.5/10
3. Lady Wood: The title song. Gotta love the humor of it. For me this is the "Talking Body" sequel. Her vocals channel the great Sia in this one. The chorus is cleverly built up until the end when it really fights to stay in your head. It more than succeeds. Sexy sexy sexy and I hope it becomes a big hit. 10/10
4. True Disaster: This was the second song released but I hope its not considered a single because I don't think its the best choice at all. Its a good song that will have people in the club dancing. Another sexy music video. Lyrics that are appealing, but honestly I think this is her most generic song. I really like it, but the rest of the songs outshine it in my opinion. It could be a hit, but I think the others could be bigger hits. 8.5/10
5. Cool Girl: The lead single of course. I compare this ones reception to that of Sias "Alive" which never impacted like it should've despite being one of her best songs ever. Yes, I think this is one of Toves best, if not her best. The pulsing production and sexy seductive chorus of course. I'm a manly man, but I move my body to this one while listening to it at the gym proudly. Its sad it wasn't the big hit it sounds like. I blame it on wrong timing for her release. Its still a classic modern pop anthem for me though. 10/10
6. Vibes Feat. Joe Janiak: The title already hints at this song full of vibes. Theres even acoustic guitar in the mix. Every part of the vocals sounds like a chorus that's how catchy the singing is. I don't know who Joe is but he held his own with Tove with his great guest vocals. Expect this one at clubs as well. 9/10
7. Fire Fade (Chapter ll): The second interconnecting interlude. Again done better than the first albums. Really sets the mood for the last half of the album. 9/10
8. Don't Talk About It: This one kicks off with nice synth riff as Tove leads us into the song like corridors as we reach the chorus which is the secret underground club. This is the rare song where the verses are catchier than the already catchy chorus. Full of sex and class as always. If I was a male stripper I'd have this as one of my songs. Yeah I just said that. 9.5/10
9. Imaginary Friend: This song is my underdog favorite. She channels Sia again here. Sure the title sounds silly but this is probably the best and sexiest song on an album full of sex appeal. The way she sings the chorus will melt your heart jumpstart it at the same time. But there's a certain moment after the chorus that really steals the show on this one for me. After the chorus she chants "Don't you know it...." as the beat and music plays then she makes this sexy noise sounding like "ahhh". Its really such a subtle but Insanely sexy touch. If I was in charge this would be a single. Favorite. 11/10
10. Keep It Simple: Tove keeps it going with this next song in what I think is the better half of the album. As with the best songs, this one builds upon itself layer by layer until the final 90 seconds blows everything through the roof into space. The synths have fun throughout with perfect vocals and a sexy chorus as always, but as I said, the last 90 seconds does the opposite of keeping things simple. Intense seductive and infectious ending that's also surprisingly another good song to listen to while at the gym pushing yourself. Perfect pop. 10/10
11. Flashes: She really just wont let up with the second half of the album! This is her most powerful and emotional vocal delivery on the album. The chorus is very intense and infectious again, but also again there's a secret touch that hits me hard. She sings "what about you?" a few times throughout the song and in different emotional tones sometimes with some really making it feel like she's literally talking to me. Really nice. But that's not it. There is a vocal effect near the end that makes her voice sound like a sexy guitar solo. Its really amazing. Close second favorite. 10.5/10
12. WTF Love Is: Pulsating quiet beats start things off. Then the atmosphere kicks in as does Tove. The title seems silly again, but wait till you hear how she delivers the line in the chorus. Perfection. If there was a sequel to the movie Drive, then this could be on the soundtrack. She really ends the album on a high note. Though I think "Flashes" would've ended it smoother, its still a great perfect pop song leaving you wanting more. 9.5/10

I didn't think she could do it, but this album more than surpassed her debut. And I'm telling you I really liked that one. But in all honesty there are at least 3 songs from there that I skip on impulse. The only song I'm tempted to skip, but still haven't, is "True Disaster", and like I said its a good song, just not in the league of the rest of the album. The vibe is consistent throughout. She went for a darker tone. She's still relentless. She is that sexy cool girl with a voice that will disarm you and turn you on and excite you in the best ways. Every song is near perfect on this one. A few are more than perfect. Some have said this one isn't as accessible as her first. I disagree. I think its even more magnetic and hypnotizing. The perfect soundtrack for life at the moment. Whether you're just at home doing chores or cooking. At the gym. At the club. At the store. Driving around aimlessly with loud music. Or of course, making sweet sweet Tove Love. I really hope she rebounds with these songs becoming bigger hits than ever. This album needs to be heard to be believed. She has further proven shes in a higher class than the majority of pop acts today. It is my first contender for 2017 Album of the Year. And she says the sequel to this album will be released that year. I cant wait to hear the two final chapters. For now I'm enjoying this album. Ive listened to it over 10 times through already and cant get enough. As always, before you really form your own full opinion try to listen to it at least three times first. Now excuse me while I get my Tove on.

Tove Lo's second album, Lady Wood, is a well thought out and mature experience. Building upon the emotionally reflective base of her first album, the singer has fine tuned her approach and created a cohesive work that is presented as more of a singular journey, rather than a collection of individual songs. Tove Lo continues to mature as an artist and I am excited to see what she will release in the future.

As far as the technical qualities of the LP, the sound quality is great and the attention to detail in the presentation is just what I was wanting. The artwork is printed on nice matte material with some metallic detail on the back cover. The inner protective sleeve has an image of the artist on one side and then album credits on the other. A great release from a fantastic artist!

Tove Lo has done it and made a sophomore album that shows perfectly how she has evolved between her last one and this one. Queen of the Clouds is excellent; in Lady Wood she has built upon that excellence and made something even more raw and pure and, I have to say, magical. As one reviewer said it may not be for everyone, but if you like this kind of music at all this is a wonderful album. I truly can't find anything wrong with it. Great job, Tove.

ETA: After a weekend of listening I have decided this is in my top five albums of all time, two others being Pearl Jam's "Ten" and Sarah McLachlan's "Fumbling Toward Ecstacy." I have eclectic musical taste but am pretty picky about what I truly love and what is a benchmark of quality. This album measures up.
