Sinossi

Forget the dead; Lament for the Living. After the zombie apocalypse, the survivors have to decide how to rebuild their lives. Having watched society literally devour itself, those that are left struggle to continue along the path of humanity.

In the three years since the Outbreak that caused society to devour itself, groups of survivors have struggled to rebuild their lives.

While one group seeks to stay off the radar, another is sweeping across the country. However, even in the relative safety of The Sanctuary, not everything is as it seems. Follow the story of Sacks as she joins the ranks of the Rangers, only for her life to be turned upside for the second time.

*** 5.0 out of 5 stars

Lament for the Living takes a step away from other "after the outbreak" survival tales by focusing on the people who bring about what humanity should be known for - their ability to adapt and survive. The world is as bleak as you would imagine it to be after a zombie apocalypse, but it's the survivors and their struggles(combating the risen dead as well as their own personal demons) that really make this trip totally worthwhile. This book is loaded with believable characters who come alive and might even share character traits with people that you know. I loved it and would recommend it to any horror enthusiast. ***

3.0 su 5 stelle Probably a Novel Best Reserved for Die-Hard Zombie Fans 15 giugno 2013
Di Kate Givans - Pubblicato su Amazon.com
Formato: Copertina flessibile
Lament for the Living is the first book in a series. The main focus of this particular installment is the Sanctuary settlement - a seemingly peaceful, efficient post-apocalyptic settlement. But there's something off about this settlement, and you can detect it almost from the get-go. The author doesn't reveal what that is until almost the end of the book, and you really don't even see it coming, which is really one of the best things going for this novel.

Additionally, there's quite a bit of originality - I've never read anything quite like it. I really liked some of the potential of some of the characters; not only was there a have a wide, diverse spectrum of characters (everything from a former military cook to a boy who'd survived one of the worst massacres in our generation), I found myself intrigued by how all of these characters came together to form a small survivor community.

Unfortunately, there were number of reasons that I found this particular novel very difficult to read, which is why I couldn't give a novel I would classify as "good" any more than three stars. On one end, the reasons I struggled with this book could have simply been reader preference. For example, there was something about the characterization really detached me from the characters themselves. I'm not sure if it was the way that we were introduced to each of the character's back stories, or if it was the almost detached nature of the author's writing (which, for all I know, could have been intentional...for some readers and authors, it works), but it really took away from the experience for me.

But there were more mechanical issues - things that can easily be fixed in later installments. For example, there were portions of the novel that I felt were almost too informative. Of course, this is just my opinion - not everyone may feel this way. I also found myself often skipping over entire portions because the novel was written in very block-ish form (very long paragraphs and very few breaks). This made it very hard for me to want to keep reading, which could have also been a contributing factor to my lack of attachment to the author's characters. And character attachment is a HUGE thing for me. It wasn't that the author didn't set up opportunities for me to connect, I just kept feeling like it fell a little short of what I needed to truly fall in love with the characters and their story.

In the end, I found the story was interesting and different, and I'd definitely recommend it to die-hard zombie novel lovers. If, however, you're more of a dabbler (like me), it may not be for you. Not because it's not a good story, but because I personally needed a little something more to truly love Lament for the Living.

I just finished LFTL Volume 1, is Volume 2 available yet?...How about now? C'mon!
Descriptive writing that really pulls you into the book, what a great read. I loved the classic gore and the elements of dark humor. Great characters, great twists and an ending that satisfies but keeps you anticipating the upcoming books.

5.0 su 5 stelle If you're looking for a fast paced horror novel, then you're going to love this.. 11 maggio 2013

It's easy to see that the author grew up watching and loving the classic zombie genre movies (As did I) and with these in mind, he has pushed the boundaries for the genre to the next level, in what is a disturbing and emotive work of fiction. "Lament For The Living" is a good read that has well sculpted characters and it's enjoyable story telling will leave the reader wanting to soak up the next instalment immediately.
