’This is an important first novel, important for us, for polar bears, for the planet. It is deeply moving, beautifully told, quite unforgettable’ Michael Morpurgo
There are no polar bears left on Bear Island. At least, that’s what April’s father tells her when his scientific research takes them to this remote Arctic outpost for six months. But one endless summer night, April meets one. He is starving, lonely and a long way from home. Determined to save him, April begins the most important journey of her life . . .
This moving story will win the hearts of children the world over and show them that no one is too young or insignificant to make a difference. The Last Bear is a celebration of the love between a child and an animal, a battle cry for our world and an irresistible adventure with a heart as big as a bear’s.

Hannah Gold is a truly remarkable author who so lovingly draws you into her world.
Which little girl wouldn't want a bear for a friend?
However, this book is much, much more than a story of friendship between a young girl and a bear.
It's a story of courage, a story of love, a story of conviction, a story of deep sincere friendship, and story of how "if every single person on the planet just did one thing" how we could save this world and create a planet where humans can live in harmony alongside the animal kingdom and nature... just one thing...
As soon as I'd read the first couple of pages in this book, I knew I wouldn't be able to put it down until I'd finished. I'm so thankful it arrived over the weekend so I could get soaked in it.
Hannah Gold's writing flows effortlessly. I can't think of many authors who can write a debut novel which captures your imagination, sucks you into the world of April and Bear, and creates inspiration for you to become a nicer human in this world.
I cannot wait to see what Hannah writes next...
