First-century Rome is a perilous city as Nero stalks the political circles and huddled groups of believers. To be safe, Christians must remain invisible.

Gallus Sergius Vitas is the only man within Nero’s trusted circle willing to do what it takes to keep the empire together. He struggles to lessen Nero’s monstrosities against the people of Rome—especially the Christians. But as three Greek letters are scrawled as graffiti throughout the city, Nero’s anger grows.

As the early church begins to experience the turbulence Christ prophesied as the beginning of the last days, an enemy seeks to find John’s letter, Revelation, and destroy it. Meanwhile the early Christians must decipher it and cling to the hope it provides as they face the greatest of all persecutions.

5.0 su 5 stelle Insightful Alternative for Left Behind Fans 9 febbraio 2015

For anyone not familiar with this series of three fast-paced books, the author skillfully weaves Revelation and the Matthew 24 prophecies of Jesus along with detailed history into a fiction story of intrigue and gospel. With the writing skills of Sigmund Brauwer, supported by scriptural doctrine and research by Hank Hanegraaf, in my opinion, this is both easy reading and far better literature than LaHaye's contribution. I personally don't concur with all gospel doctrine presented here, but I do find the end times portrayal to be historically in accord with Scripture and Jesus' prophecies.

I got this book during a free trial, which generally doesn't result in all night page turning suspense. This one, however, completely surprised me. I don't know what I was expecting, but it was not to fall absolutely in love with the characters and intrigue of this book.

Because this is a historical fiction, it gave me some real insight as to the challenges that faced the people at a time roughly 30 years after the death and resurrection of Jesus. Both believers and non believers alike were treated brutally and could be turned upon at any time, regardless of their rank. I was horrified to read of the gruesome, barbaric punishments practiced by the officials at that time, especially Nero.

I enjoy reading literature such as this because it fills in a lot of questions I have about biblical accounts. For instance, this book goes into great depths to describe the book of Revelations from a Hebrew point of view. I had no idea how layered the language is. Books such as this give me a helpful background, explanation, and context for reading the actual scriptures.

This book is full of suspense, intrigue, violence, love... It has it all. I couldn't believe when I got to the end and realized it is a 3 part series. I will HAVE to get the next two books- it was THAT good.

5.0 su 5 stelle A Great Read 6 settembre 2012

I found Hank Hanegraaff's The Last Disciple, which he co-wrote with Sigmond Brouwer (The Weeping Chamber) to be a riveting read from the get-go. Using his own perspective on biblical eschatology (which he explains at the end of this, the first in a trilogy of stories surrounding the period just before the destruction of the Temple in A.D.70) Hank weaves a story of the intrigue that surrounds mad Emporer Nero along with graphic depictions of Christian persecution and the backbiting and betrayels which do nothing to stop the eventual "takeover" of the Roman empire by a small and seemingly inconsequential religious sect (not by a bang but by the Word of God). Time and again history has shown that when evil and corruption overtake a nation, no matter how powerful that nation may be, that it will eventually result in its own downfall. Rome was already well on its way down that slippery slope when Christianity began to move in proving what God's Word says "Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts" (Zechariah 4:6).
The other two in this trilogy is The Last Sacrifice and The Last Temple. All which are available for the Kindle device.

This book is well written and a great engrossing read. But most importantly it provides a historically accurate picture of the time of the first century church. This time of great tribulation was astounding in its brutality. The book of revelation congress to life when read alongside this great book. Don't believe the crazy dispensational eschatology. This book will help you see the truth about the bible's final book.

5.0 su 5 stelle Set in the Roman Empire, accurate to history, ... 24 ottobre 2014

Set in the Roman Empire, accurate to history, entertaining and keeps your attention. As you read you are interested in how the characters will resolve the situation, and how they interrelate. complex enough to be the story of multiple people and how they interact, even though being from different social classes and the interaction was a result of life circumstances, not a planned thing.
