Sinossi

Growing up is hard to do—especially when, technically, you’re already grown up. You yearn for the days when you could play with your toys and retire to your bedroom for a much needed nap. You were fed, you were clothed, but now you’re left to figure it all out on your own. Now that you’re twenty-something, there are so many things that you need to do, and seemingly, no one to tell you how. . . until now.

Launch Your Life is a practical guide to navigating life’s twists and turns, and to achieving success in all you do. You’ll social network with the best of them, write a killer resume, land an interview, and transition into the working world with ease. You’ll also deal with changing relationships with friends and family, you’ll pray hard, grow in your faith, and you’ll even learn to turn your failures into future successes. With Launch Your Life you’ll be prepared, organized, and ready to set yourself up for a smooth transition into your new life of independence.

Features include:

  • Two interior pockets to keep papers, receipts, and notes scribbled on napkins
  • Blank calendar and note pages to jot notes and juggle appointments
  • Plastic slots to hold business cards
  • Chapter dividers to help you quickly find what you need
  • A built-in elastic band to help you keep it all together

As one who is passionate about doing life and ministry with young adults, I'm always looking for resources to recommend.  Launch Your Life made me stand up and cheer with excitement as there is nothing like it out on the market.  The helpful checklists as well as the tell-it-like-it-is honest truth about LIFE will guide and direct young adults to do what the book promises:  launch into adulthood, fully prepared.  I can't recommend this book enough.  If you are ready to jump into the real world, Launch Your Life by Kenny Silva is a must read.

5.0 su 5 stelle Practical & Accessible 19 giugno 2013
Di Evan O - Pubblicato su Amazon.com
Formato: Copertina rigida Acquisto verificato
In Launch Your Life, Kenny Silva offers a practical and accessible path to do just that. In a generation where many are either refusing or unable to "grow up," he provides tangible techniques, meaningful mindsets and passionate advice for those ready to move onto meaningful existence. He balances faith and function in a world that is complex to navigate. He section on identity is one of the most direct responses to a constant struggle among young people today. I highly recommend this book for parents looking to help their children launch, friends who see other friends struggling or "en-route" adults trying to find their way.

3.0 su 5 stelle A good starter book for a twentysomething but dont stop there.. 31 marzo 2013
Di D. R. Iannelli-smith - Pubblicato su Amazon.com
Formato: Copertina rigida
Thank you Thomas Nelson for the opportunity to review this work!

What if there was a guide regarding your identity, your career, your finances, your home and growth? `A guide for the growing up for the almost grown up' is just the resource for you.

As stated by the editor,

"Unlike many self-help books for twentysomethings that hone in on finding a job and achieving success in your career; Launch Your Life helps you view the entire picture, allowing you to deal with everything from setting a budget, finding a home, and selecting a church to dealing with the changing relationships, and finding a fantastic job that suits this happier, healthier version of you."

This book has just enough transparency of the author (Kenny Silva) that you realize this is NOT just another one of those self-help books mentioned above. This work is a facilitator of real and actual advice through a biblical worldview, complete with great scripture references and honesty from the author. One of the reviews I read, said this book would cause you to think more highly your self than you ought. The reality, at twentysomething, that really is all your thinking about... yourself. It is a major transitional time in our North American culture when leaving home and planning on going into the outside world. Kenny attempts to show that by going, you don't have to do it alone or without some discernment.

My last comments on this work are going to be trying to think as someone who is twentysomething versus a 42-yr. old reading this work. The format was interesting, however, I found the pages hard to turn and it just felt `klunky' and I was wondering if I was going to rip a page and damage it, versus being the `mobile' work I think the author and publishing company were shooting for. The concept of providing a journal and some pockets, a rubber band, and wire binding are cool, I just thought they might be a little more `rugged' than they were. I was grateful that the author is a graduate of RTS and quotes the ESV in context throughout the work and I did not see any `psycho-babble' which is so prevalent in works like these. It was refreshing to see some solid biblical content regarding the topic areas. I would recommend this work to twentysomethings, but possibly not as an individual gifting but possibly to a group or small group so that they could go through it together with a mentor or in community to dialogue through the material.

5.0 su 5 stelle A Great Tool for Post-Graduates! 29 marzo 2013
Di Kenneth G. Campbell III - Pubblicato su Amazon.com
Formato: Copertina rigida
Kenny Silva has been through his share of success and failure over the course of his life. As he describes himself through his book, we see that he attempted to go to the Air Force, but failed his required physical test. This ruined him, but he wouldn't let this failure define him. In the first section he shows us how we can't have our identity in our failures. We all fail, but God will carry us through our problems to shape us to become more like Him. Silva wrote this book to help us through life. He sets the book up in sections; Identity, Career, Finances, Home, and Growth. Each section is filled with theological and practical tips to move forward in life while growing closer to God.

I thought this book was incredible; combining practical advice with scripture to propel us into an already ongoing life. Silva hits us with Scripture and experience to show us that we can't just live without the thought of redeeming time; we are to use every moment to glorify God. This means our job hunting should be God glorifying. If you are about to graduate and go into the "real world", or you are already there, this is a book for you. Read this book and use this book to help you grow closer to God, yourself, and others.

3.0 su 5 stelle Advice from a "big brother" 5 aprile 2013
Di Victory Girl - Pubblicato su Amazon.com
Formato: Copertina rigida
"Launch Your Life" by Kenny Silva is a self-proclaimed "Guide to Growing Up for the Almost Grown Up".

This book, targeted at (in my opinion) young adults graduating from college and possibly even high school, is meant to help them in the transition from being a student living at home to a productive member of society. All this from a Christian perspective.

The main topics are: Identity, Career, Finances, Home, and Growth. Those are some really big subjects to cover in about 250 pages, but Kenny Silva does a good job in giving an easy-to-read overview of this information because it wasn't too long ago that he was learning these things for himself. He is easy to relate to in a "big brother" kind of way, and that's what gives this book credibility to the targeted audience.

As a parent, I thought the book was a helpful reminder to me of important topics to cover with my own children before they are having to make those choices.
