Long timers here have desks dotted with various pieces of Lego from these calendars; first-timers always seem a little bemused but it seems to catch on quite quickly.
Go on, buy some for your office (or your room, or your desk...) You'll make over twenty friends(**) with each one!
If you're interested in the details:
Calendars are positioned in Reception/Break Out areas.
Each calendar is given a check-sheet with the date and a space for the Lucky Opener to scribe their name. (I stick the sheet to the box and we have pens on string so they don't go walkies by accident.)
The rule is "first person who comes into the office in the morning(***) gets to open the Door for the day UNLESS they have already opened one(****)."
Finally: Once "EVERYONE" has opened a door then you are allowed to open a second door.
I like people to send an email round telling people what model they got. This happens most often if there is a particularly desirable model in a door. This also seems to happen when someone fails to build The Correct Model and asks for help(*****).
Non-working day doors are opened on The Next Day - so every Monday there are three doors available (unless someone does overtime in the office and then - go for it. Fair game and thanks for working the weekend.)
This initially benefits the people who get to work first, but the available doors soon bubble up to the people who do later shifts.
As someone once said: Merry Christmas Everybody.
(*) We're a software firm, so people are used to following a procedure... Some environments it may not work as well, YMMV.
(**) Not guaranteed. There may be some fights over Yoda/Millenium Falcon
(***) Unless the office is shut in the morning for some reason.
(****) Beware, some people deliberately open two "by accident" thinking this means that they can open a third whenever they want.
(*****) The instructions are on the back of each door, but some people miss that in their enthusiasm.

I'm 42 and never had an Advent calendar, and love Star Wars so this year I treated myself to one.
============= INITAL THOUGHTS =============
Packaging is awesome, official Lego and Star Wars brands all over and looks stunning.
============= QUALITY =============
You get a piece for each day. If you're a tool like me and do NOT look on the back of each advent card, you'll wonder where the instructions are.
Well, they're on the back of the card you pull on each day, apparently even 2 year olds figure that out, but I failed.
What I will tell you, is that if you google any ADVENT model number. there's a downloadable PDF for each!
============= ITEMS =============
I actually got 2, one for myself and one for a colleague.
He said he let his 2 kids take it in turns, and each one collected the item of that day. And therein lies the problem.
Of the 24 items, some are awesome, some are great and some are pants.
I placed a pics of all 24 lined up with my faves at the front, which are mainly the characters and the aircraft, most of the rest is pretty rubbish as a 40 year old, however maybe the age it was intended for might find them more interesting than I did.

You get random extras from each piece, but they always seem to be the parts you will never lose!
============= CONCLUSION =============
I can see how kids would love this, I enjoyed it but as soon as Xmas was done I gave them all (bar a few) to my gaffers kids.

Great to open with your kids, builds/minifigs were disappointing. Still getting next year's one though.
