Although a variety of good ideas are presented, I was unimpressed with the amount of grammatical errors in such a short book.

Overall a good first look at business models. Use of abbreviations is a bit excessive as the key phrase is not often on the same page. could be expanded on the best strategies for a givrn product type.

Frank Drake who estimated the chance of extraterrestrial intelligence, asked his students to find a practical usage for his formula. The famous solution of Peter Backus is of an interesting angle "Why I don't have a girlfriend?" His calculation was that his chances are 1:285,000 to meet the right one. As I know first-hand, those chances resemble the entrepreneur's chance to get the finance needed, according to his business plan. Daya's book is providing us the needed infrastructure of "what the hell is the VC looking for in our business model"? As he states "…an experienced investor…can usually tell you with a glance if your plan will work…". He's describing a way through the usual drawbacks and gives us some advices from his experience (i.e. "I actually prefer business plans with full analysis of the different links in the value chain with rough estimates of economy of scale for the numbers involved with key assumptions at each part of the chain and not one which predicts sales of…at year…"). I think that reading Daya's "10 Logical Business Models That Always Fail And How to Avoid Them" may bring us (entrepreneurs) to Peter Backus' situation: he got married lately (as we may find our VC).

As a business student I found this book to be quite interesting and full of valuable insights from an experienced professional who has seen the common mistakes made when a business model is set up. I think that for anyone who is attempting to start a new business or even drafting a business plan to attract investors, this book can help identify pitfalls and take a realistic view of what is necessary and what doesn't work.

The main thesis or subject matter here is the 10 most common business models that people are using and the traps they present that are not easily evident to entrepreneurs. An interesting point that is made throughout the book is the personal and moral conflict that the entrepreneurs experience can negatively affect their business model set up. The writing is concise, blunt and honest and I really like how the author has included current phenomena in this book. I would recommend it to both new entrepreneurs and experienced businesspersons as a very relevant and informative read.

One of the first steps in starting a business is developing a business model. A lot of us think that if we come up with a model that makes sense for our market and work hard at implementing it, success will be a given. Not so, says this author, and his arguments make a LOT of sense. He surveys 10 different business models that doom a business to failure and then presents ways to successfully get around those models. This is an important resource for any entrepreneur or hopeful entrepreneur to have. It's been a real eye-opener for me, but I definitely see what the author is saying now. Definitely check this out!
