Took me several weeks to read but I just kept hoping it would get better. Book was too long. Little or no plot except at the end. Romantic scenes came so late in the book and the first time he did that in his sleep? Did all their parents, aunts, uncles etc have to be dead? In a way the author just has very little imagination. Sorry but won't read her again.

Outstanding read!! I loved every single part of this book. It's artfully written so each page slowly unfolds the drama surrounding Tris and Alexandra. What a read! I couldn't wait to get back to it. I was drawn in from page one and although the book was a good length, I was sad to see it end. But... there are more books in the series so I was happy to see that.
Nothing is more intriguing than a love out of reach. You're hopeful that when two people love each other but are separated by scandal will somehow find a way. This book comes with my highest recommendation. Every single page will hold your attention in its steady pace and keeps you guessing on the mystery surrounding the Hero.

The story was great and felt so real up until the very end where things got way too dramatic and unrealistic. The idea of a mystery twist at the end was cool but it wasn't executed well. Things felt rushed at that point. I also thought it was unnecessary to withhold verbal endearments as well. Kind of silly.

This was my first Lauren Royal book. I loved the characters, their personalities, and the relationships they had. Her characters had spirit and the closeness of the family along with the closeness among the servants was heartwarming. I loved the fact that Alexandra changed the tradition of the aristocracy just calling their servants by their servant titles, (John Coachman), etc., and instead learned their given names and expected everyone else to do the same.
I really loved the right mix of humor!
I am about to read the second book, "Tempting Julianna", and I'm sure it'll be just as good!
For those of you looking for a well-written historical romance, I would wholeheartedly recommend this Regency Chase Family series!
(There were a few typos, so I had to re-read a few lines more than once, as my eyes and brain sought to make sense of the sentence, but these errors did not detract anything away from the book).
4,0 su 5 stelleEasy read: years-old sparks re-ignite between loyal heroine and guarded hero - topped with a loving and plotting family

Alexandra has secretly loved Tristan for years - from a distance, him being a friend of her older brother. When he shows up at their home years later, sparks immediately fly more than ever - with all kinds of complications attached, not in the least the scandal Tristan had fallen victim to and the consequences a connection with him would have for Alexandra's family.
This book is the first in a series about Alexandra and her sisters Juliana and Corinna. It has been republished as a clean/sweet romance under the title 'Alexandra'. This edition contains some moderate curses and a few detailed scenes of love-making.
Lauren Royal's style is engaging and smooth. I was pulled into the story from the beginning and couldn't put the book away, although the story got a little less interesting somewhere halfway: the plot seemed to drag and the tension seemed evaporated. Though near the end and the (quite sudden/compact) wrap-up of the plot things got somewhat more exciting again, the tension in the plot did not fully return for me.
The relationship between the sisters (and their plotting schemes and loyalty toward one another) and gruff responsible brother Griffin (you see the manipulation in action) made up for the 'stock-theme' of the hero damaged in earlier relationships and not willing to risk to love again (spoiler alert: to of course open himself for true love like *this* after a series of (relational) trials).
I'm curious as to how the story has changed in the 'clean' version. I think I'll read Juliana's story in the reprint.
