Carol Green was a waitress for Neil’s Dinner located off the interstate. She had gotten off work at midnight and had headed for her car, keys in hand and purse slung over her shoulder. Neil had closed and locked the door after seeing her get safely to the brown station wagon parked at the end of the lot by the trees. That was the last time anyone had ever seen her alive. At one, when he had left for home, Neil noticed that the car was still there, door still locked, and no sign of Carol anywhere. He hadn’t noticed any other cars coming or going in the time between locking the door and walking out so he thought it was odd that she hadn’t yet left. Approaching the car Neil found himself thinking of the announcements that had been in the paper that morning, warning the residents of Meryll Shores to stay home after the suggested curfew. Pulling up to the driver’s window he almost fainted with relief to not see Carol inside. But where had she gone?
