5.0 su 5 stelle A fun series of misadventures, complete with quirky characters 22 settembre 2016
Di David Gregory Tindell - Pubblicato su Amazon.com
Formato: Formato Kindle Acquisto verificato
Nobody could be so clueless as to bring over 12 illegal immigrants by accident, right?
That’s what I thought, anyways. But as I listened to the obstinate silliness flow from Major Jeremy Billycock-Smythe’s mouth, the surprise drifted.

Expect both dark and light humor, in addition to fun, quippy dialogue from this novel. I found myself laughing through Major Billycock-Smythe’s series of misadventures where, due to his hardheadedness, grumpiness, and simplemindedness, I didn’t feel too sorry for my joy at his expense.

I loved how things continually went from bad to worse, beyond what one might expect. Just as the bank was calling in the mortgage on their property, Major B.S. suggests retiring from his job to become a crocodile trainee, utilizing his commando skills. The book is full of lighthearted fun like this, and characters who must reason with Major B.S.’s constant scheming and over-the-top ideas. And even when he’s wrong, dead-to-rights, the Major finds a way to shrug it off. I also enjoyed his interactions with his wife Molly (don’t call her Millicent!) very much. She was warm but firm voice of reason to Major BS’ shenanigans.

I’d recommend picking up this book for some quick laughs and some easy reading. John Martin has a delightful sense of humor, and his writing style makes this a quick read.
4.0 su 5 stelle "Truth be known, he'd rather the truth not be known." 13 ottobre 2016

Major Jeremy Billycock-Smythe, our Major B.S., comes off as a major P.O.S., actually! But he's surrounded by a bunch of likeable, even loveable characters in rural Australia, including his neighbor Dr. Smith, the local veterinarian. Major B.S. suspects that Dr. Smith is hiding something and becomes determined to prove it. Mostly he proves himself a bad husband, neighbor, friend... It's not in his best interest to be a bad customer at the local shop, including constantly calling the proprietress by the wrong name--what about her reputation with that butcher knife of hers? Does he think he's indestructible? Well, no, Chapter 1 begins with him arriving him wet and bloody. Maybe after some time with him you'll wonder why he doesn't come home like that, or worse, every day! But the story of how it happened and what follows is interesting and "does what it says on the tin": there's some humor and some pathos. And people who feel real, in a setting that feels real.
4.0 su 5 stelle A main character you want to vote off the island, or punch in the nose, or both! clever characters and crazy plot 18 novembre 2016
Di Montzalee Wittmann - Pubblicato su Amazon.com
Formato: Formato Kindle
Major B.S. by John Martin is about a British, manipulative, very sexist, arrogant Major that should be punched in the nose daily but instead is trying to find a way to get a Knighthood he certainly doesn't deserve. He finally gets what he deserves in the end, and the way to his "Knighthood" is not the way he planned it. I thought the story was pretty good except for Two Dogs, this was horrible! Those who have read it know what I mean! LOL. There has the British humor, a silly plot, a load of crazy characters, and a fitting ending. I was given this book to read and I was under no obligation to leave a review but felt I should pass on to others what I felt.
4.0 su 5 stelle The Adventures of a Narcissistic Buffoon in Australia 13 gennaio 2017
Di H. R. Holt - Pubblicato su Amazon.com
Formato: Formato Kindle
This is an interesting and humorous story that is primarily about a pompous ex-army ex-Englishman who has moved to Australia with his seventh wife, who is Australian. The two of them live in her family's mansion, but he is totally obsessed with himself and treats everyone around him like dirt. It's hard to describe what happens in the book because it's a series of madcap adventures that Major BS takes in the hopes of getting a knighthood and/or inflating his already inflated ego. But what goes around, comes around ...

I also enjoyed some of the Australian terms that are very different from those used in the United States or in England. If you like quirky humor, I'm guessing that you'll enjoy reading this.
