Manual de Los Monumentos de Copan, Honduras Volume 1 is available as a PDF free download from the FAMSI website however to reach a wider audience it is being offered for the Kindle Readers. This 387 page volume is a series of very brief essays called The Copan Notes which discussed the advances made in the decipherment of the hieroglyphic writings at Copan, Honduras. These notes were somewhat informal, but were widely distributed and available both to the scholar and the curious layman . This notebook hopes to give life again to that spirit of knowledge-at-everybody’s-reach, so often professed by Linda Schele, and intends to fill some of the void left by her departure. It is an effort to collect information dispersed in many places and reflect an educated opinion about the current knowledge of the decipherment and interpretation of these monuments. This first Volume of The Copan Monuments Notebook encompasses those monuments in the Great Plaza of the Main Group of the site in Copan, Honduras. In order to be accessible to a wide audience, the texts are presented in Spanish and English.

The Manual de Monumentos de Copán is not The Copán Notes, by Linda Schele and supported by the University of Texas at Austin, as stated in Amazon's description. In fact, it is a bi-lingual (English and Spanish) analysis of the carved stone monuments of Copán's Great Plaza. Each monument is analyzed for its pictorial (iconographic) and hieroglyphic contents, including a glyph-by-glyph decipherment in Ch'ol Mayan, English and Spanish. The manual begins with a brief discussion of the nature of Maya hieroglyphic writing, and is followed by an overview of the broader narratives of these monuments as a corpus of regal art and social history. The Manual de Monumentos is a Honduran project created by the Asociación Copán in conjunction with the Instituto Hondureño de Antropología e Historia, Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
