As someone born in 1970 myself, I found so many aspects of this book that I could relate to from my own personal life growing up and learning from what life throws at you, good and bad.
This book takes you through the life experiences of the author from childhood to adulthood and the many obstacles he had to face on the journey. It mostly focuses on his accidental obsession with the Japanese culture and using his passion for wanting to write and become a blogger. But like many bloggers they are faced with both love of their supporters and vile hatred of their enemy's who will go to any length to belittle the things they don't understand.
If you were born around 1970 or you are a blogger then this would be a very interesting read and worth looking at.
4,0 su 5 stellean inside look at the dark side of fandom culture

This is the story of a fanboy in a female-dominated fandom. The book documents a slow descent to fandom hell, starting with assumptions and misunderstandings leading to the author being cyberbullied and culminating with him being doxed and called a paedophile.
The author's writing style is entertaining and the story flows naturally. There were a few parts of the book I didn't like because they came across as too self-indulgent. Overall, this is an interesting book for anyone interested in the hive mind in fandom culture or online bullying.
I personally feel that the author was very lenient with his accusers. Being accused of paedophilia because you happen to be a male who follows boy bands is unacceptable. The livejournal users who posted these unfounded allegations should have been sued, they were certainly old enough to face the legal consequences of their actions.

I could not finish this one. The pedophile doth protest too much, methinks. The man has no sense of boundaries, plus the writing sucks. Reads like an illiterate kid did the writing, not an old am obsessed with children. One sick puppy.

I found this book to be a very compelling and honest memoir about a fanboy navigating a female-dominated fandom and finding himself to be horribly misunderstood. This book really captures both the wonderful and the terrifying aspects that comes with participating in a fandom. A fandom has the power to enhance your life and your experiences with the object of your affection. But it also has the power to destroy you when it becomes a hive mind and people start taking quotes out of context and twisting them for their own satisfaction. Of course, in this case, it has to do with the knee-jerk reaction of having a 40-something male in a fandom centered around teenage boy idols. Because if a man has an interest in teenage boys, then it MUST be for sexual reasons, right? Even some of the reviews you see here show the hive mind in action when it's obvious that they haven't even bothered to read this book.
While his experiences had nothing to do with misandry (which is something that doesn't even exist) or homophobia, it is still very unfortunate that so many people thought the very worst about his intentions. To this day they still believe he's a pedophile and a child predator. I know most people won't read this review, but to those out there that think Marcus is a horrible person, I beg them to read this book for the real reasons behind his love for the idol boys. It truly is an entertaining and thought-provoking piece. This book takes the readers on an incredible journey with an addictive writing style that makes it difficult to put the book down.
I look forward to reading Mr. Herzig's upcoming works.

Said no paedophilia victim, ever. Consider this your trigger warning. The author is a middle-aged man who openly sexually lusts after children, especially boys, and who works hard to make himself popular with young girls. For the longest time he was a member of the fan community and pretended to be a girl to earn trust. This man is dangerous.
