When a wife goes missing, her husband is often the prime suspect in her disappearance. But what happens when she is never found? In some of these cases, the husband was found guilty of murder, without a body.

Missing Wives, Missing Lives focuses on unique cases in which the wife has never been found and the undying efforts of her family as they continue the painful search to bring her home. The book covers decades old cases, such as Jeanette Zapata, who has been missing since 1976, to more recent and widely known cases, such as Stacy Peterson, who has been missing since 2007. Keeping these women’s stories alive may be the key to solving the mystery and bringing them home to their family.

JJ Slate’s debut book depicts thirty shocking true stories of wives that have mysteriously vanished, presumably at the hands of her husband. Countless cases like these have played out under the public spotlight, and many of them have been solved after the wife’s remains have eventually been found. But some of these women remain missing years later, denying the families their right to bury their loved one. Many of these families continue the gruesome search for the remains of their daughter, granddaughter, sister, aunt, or mother years, even decades, later.

“A riveting read that paints a vivid picture of disappearing wives whose lives converge toward what the reader knows is a horrifying conclusion. Well researched and written.” —Crime Magazine

"A compendium of some of the most notorious cases where women have disappeared. Too many husbands are literally getting away with murder. We must remember that many of these women were moms as well. The subject of this book is fraught with emotions for the reader. Thousands of women and girls are missing and every day more and more simply vanish. We need more books like this for public awareness. Congratulations to the author on this her debut book. Highly recommended." —Missing Justice Gender Advocacy

"Captivating .... concise research and comprehensive facts, Slate's debut book will intrigue most all readers, not just true crime."

    5.0 su 5 stelle Incredible Book 16 giugno 2014

Being retired from CSI, I really enjoyed this book. It was well-written and covered a wide varierty of missing women. Some of the cases I'm familiar with, but reading about ones I had not heard of was interesting. The author obviously researched each case and put a lot into this. I have already recommended this book to several of my true crime friends. Once I started reading, I couldn't stop!

4.0 su 5 stelle Good read, and may actually help prevent a similar fate for others. 26 dicembre 2014

While this is a sad subject, I was interested in the book because I was familiar with several of the cases and wanted to know if they had ever reached a conclusion. Sadly, these women have never been found. It must be heartbreaking for the families. JJ Slate's style is very easy to read and kept me turning the pages (well, digitally anyway). If nothing else, it might help people identify family members or friends who are at risk, as you'll discover all of these cases were eerily similar situations.

This book was amazing. It gives an in depth look about when wives go missing.
J.J. Slate has given you the history of what happened before the women went missing. The trial and sentence and a website to go to if you have information about the victim.

5.0 su 5 stelle This book proves that true life IS stranger then fiction! 16 giugno 2014

Wow! I didn't realize so many people go missing..

I was also surprised at how easy it is to murder your spouse and get away with it for years or altogether, even after some where multiple murders occur.

I also didn't realize that so many men felt that the only answer to the problems they have is to murder.

There also seems to be a real control issue with a percentage the male population.

Its sad that even tho it is fairly certain they did kill them.. It goes unpunished for years, if at all.

Reading this book certainly caused me to rethink warning signs in relationships.

I've seen many of these traits in friends and family relationships and feel lucky in some of my past ones. Things could have turned deadly very easily and quickly. Scary!

Caution to wife's with jealous, controlling, abusive or unstable men in your life... Don't let them read this book, they may get ideas!

Lolol... Just kidding, but do take warning if your in this type of relationship and stay safe.

Very well written, I enjoyed this thought provoking book.

The author did a wonderful job relaying the facts of each case and paying tribute to each one of the victims.

Hopefully some one knows some thing and the still missing wives will eventually be returned to their familys.

    Well done!

5.0 su 5 stelle Missing Wives, Missing Lives 1 luglio 2014
    Di Becca - Pubblicato su

This was a fascinating book! “Missing Wives, Missing Lives” has 30 true-life stories about wives that have disappeared under mysterious circumstances. Evidence was found of foul-play in these instances, with suspicion leading towards the husband. Their bodies were never actually recovered. After each story it gives a number to call if you have any information to help. Something many had in common – they were already in abusive marriages. This should be a wake-up call for women in any type of violent relationship to get out. For example, in Chapter 1 - Gail Katz-Bierenbaum: “...briefly broke up after Bob tried to drown Gail's beloved cat in the toilet...” Chapter 30 - Alice Hummel: “...Alice had suspected for years that her husband might have had an inappropriate relationship with their daughter...” Those are some pretty big warning signs. This is a well-written, captivating book that I'd definitely recommend.
