Disturbingly delicious, Sam Young shines in her debut novel.

In LUNARMORTE, the first of a trilogy, we follow Caia, the newest member of a Lycan wolf pack, as she struggles to fit into a family she has never known. Adding to the list of her troubles is the pack leader, Lucien, who has the hots for her.

But when a friend goes missing, will she have the courage to do what's right and save her, or will she be too late?

Ms. Young is the latest author to jump on the werewolf craze, which she does with effortless style. She individualizes her tale with mythological roots and a fantastical world full of magic and endless possibilities. Young's characters take on a life of their own to the point where you can't help but believe they're real.

A fair warning, this intoxicating romance will leave you hungry for more!

5.0 su 5 stelle Awesome Book! 21 luglio 2015

I was estatic to read this series by Samantha Young! It's a story about werewolves, whose origins are said to be related to Greek gods. The characters in this book are well-described, and they really shine with their respective personalities.

Apart from that, the interactions between Caia and the other lycans are well-written. The scenes are mostly enjoyable and interesting; I don't mind reading about Caia and Lucien all day long. I was heartstoppingly in love with Lucien and Caia from the get go, so much so that I felt the extreme feelings of anger with Lucien and Caia whenever something or someone tried to intervene.

I loved the series from the beginning until the end, but I spotted some things that can't be left unsaid. First of all, spelling and punctuation errors. In the beginning, I had a little trouble juggling the different POVs, but I soon grew to love it, along with practically everything else.

Reading the Lunarmorte series was my first introduction to Samantha Young and I have not only read more of her books because of how awesome this series was done but I eagerly look forward to all her future works!

Check out more of my review at but Beware! There are spoilers!

I don’t like any of the covers. I think they don’t really have any relevance to the story. And I disagree with the age rating but that is just me.

Soooooo, this book really took me for a ride! I thoroughly enjoyed it! The only thing I had a hard time with was ALL the back story. My goodness another book could have been written for all the information I had to learn. Why do authors do that? ::shrugs::

Lucien was a typical alpha male. I admit to having a weakness for the shifter variety. He came off as very solid and approachable to me. Not necessarily the traits I’ve come to associate with alpha’s. I really like how their romance blossomed naturally and slowly. But, bad Lucien for keeping secrets, and not just like minor ones, but MAJOR ones. If it was me, I would have dumped your ass with no looking back. But I’m a cold hearted SOB.

Caia was a bit harder to read. Having only known isolation her whole life I could really feel her apprehension with being thrust into this new world. She handled it very well I think. Not really giving into what people thought of her. She never caved or backed down from a challenge. And although she had a hard time fitting in initially, she didn’t let that stop her from doing what she knew to be right. She risked others wrath to make sure people knew where she stood. I liked that about her character

There was heaps of political intrigue and espionage. I actually really love that in my fantasy books, it gives it a deeper layer to sink into. More meat for the story ya know? At any rate, I’m really looking forward to the second one.
4.0 su 5 stelle Intriguing world and enjoyably vulnerable heroine... 19 febbraio 2016

4 stars -- After a less than impressive first read by this author, I actually picked this book next because it had less "good" reviews by my friends than the other paranormal series I have by her, and I kind of wanted to get the "bad" book out of the way if that makes sense. So I was actually pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this book! It had some of the pitfalls of the other book I read (Smokeless Fire) -- a bit of info dumping in places, but not nearly as bad. And I found myself interested in it much more quickly.

In general I really enjoyed Caia. She had a vulnerability to her that speaks to me in's just a personal preference type of thing. I guess I like the outcasts. Occasionally she would get on my nerves with her choices, like how she dealt with Sebastian's crush for example. And she really could act her age, but that's not necessarily a bad thing, it's just surprising sometimes b/c so often the heroines in YA books act more mature. But overall she really tugged at my heartstrings with all that she was going through.

I guess part of the reason you really noticed how young Caia was is because of how much older her romantic interest, Lucien, was....not that he always acted like it, but it was a bit of an age you wouldn't notice if they were both adults, but it added a strange feel to their romance. Now, despite that, the kisses were hot. But the progression from there was a bit of a surprise.

I don't tend to read a lot of shifter paranormal books...I'm not entirely sure why, I just don't gravitate towards them. But I appreciated the world that was created in this book, and the background of all the paranormals in this book... Sometimes it got a bit confusing b/c there was so much information, but I think it will start to become easier as the books go on.

And I really loved a lot of the secondary characters -- from fellow lycans Magnus and Ryder, to the witch Marion and the sassy faerie Saffron. They added great moment of levity and (obviously) sass, and I look forward to more glimpses of them.

So definitely looking forward to the next book in the series and finding out what's going to happen in the war and all that shiznit. A bit on the fence about the romance, but I was glad that there was at least a little bit of it in this book.

This is my second time reading this book. I read it a couple years ago and loved it then. I love it even more now. Samantha Young is a BRILLIANT author/writer/creator of worlds that are as realistic as they are magical. She is by far my favorite author (and I have a lot of them). If you haven't read her smokeless fire series --- I highly suggest you do! It's Just as exquisite as the Lunamorte series. Honestly, all of her books (ya fantasy, the novellas, and her adult/Ya romance books) ---- they are all AMAZING. She is truly an artist full of continuity (in that her books are always so darn good) and diversity (in that she can switch genre's and still blow your mind away). Hard not to be sprung on the writing of Miss Young. She's got some serious rock'n roll going for her in the literary universe.

Book Description

After ten years of hiding from her family's killer, seventeen year old Caia Ribeiro returns to her pack having no real recollection of the way pack life differs from her lone wolf upbringing. As she struggles to fit in with her lykan family again, Caia is thrown into a world of dark secrets that revolve around her very existence. Not only is she thrown into the unknown world of pack life, but her immediate attraction to her young pack leader, Lucien, confuses and frightens her. She just wants to fit in with her family even though she's so different from them in looks and attitude. Why is she so different when they are all the same? With love far from her mind as she assimilates to pack life, Caia tries to live a normal life...well as normal of a life as a teen wolf can especially when the gods are involved.

Lykans, vampires, witches, and gods, oh my! Samantha Young's Moon Spell is a fantastic interpretation on Greek mythology with a twist of the supernatural. The Tale of the Lunamorte trilogy is a wonderfully refreshing YA Paranormal Romance series. Young has created a supernatural world that stands apart among the stale and overwritten wolf and vampire themes in YA paranormal books. By involving restless and meddlesome Greek gods, Young has given us a paranormal romance that surpasses the masses by mixing supernaturals, teen angst, and end of the world seriousness. I can't express enough how happy I am to have found an author with such a wonderful imagination and a way with words. Her vivid writing style made me feel as if I was taking every step with each of her characters. Moon Spell and the following two novels are all must reads!
