I managed to pick this up on offer as a throw away read, and I'm glad I did. Although I felt it was definitely aimed at a more feminine readership, after a slow start that I really had to push through, the characters and story grew on me and I really got into it.
The background and setting really comes to life, and gives you a real feeling of the location, and the back story of the main character, her sister and her mother s health problems are truly touching and heartfelt, especially if you have been touched by the same family issues.
My only real issue is that the characters are so well developed, it almost pushes the main plot into the background. Only in the 2nd half of the story does the pace pick up to a page turning speed, and the main reveal is, in my own opinion, more stumbled on than 'detected', which always feels a bit of a let down to me. There is a reason why Poirot always gathered his suspects, rather than walk in on the murderer in the act.
Definitely worth a read, and I'll certainly keep an eye out for others in the series, I'd recomend to anyone who wants a bit of light detective yarns
