A shocking true crime story of sex, greed and cold-blooded murder! Veteran true crime author Gary C. King spins a gripping real-life tale of a woman caught in a deadly web of lust and violence...a riveting story of love gone horribly, tragically wrong.

Kathryn Ann Martini graduated from Yale with a bright future in the banking business. Young, beautiful and ambitious, she had everything going for her. Until she met Michael David Lissy, the sleazy proprietor of a scuba diving school who was a coke addict that consorted with pimps, prostitutes and other known criminals. Burned out and broke, he had nothing going for him. Then he met Kathryn...a match made in hell.

On July 6, 1984, the raped and mutilated body of Kathryn Martini Lissy was found at the Valley River Inn in Eugene, Oregon. Soon afterward, police arrested Michael David Lissy, Kathryn's husband of one year. A few months earlier, Lissy had taken out a large insurance policy on Kathryn's life, naming him as sole beneficiary. Then he hired an underworld assassin to stalk and kill his wife. After one of the most sensational trials in Eugene's history, Lissy was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment.

5.0 su 5 stelle Sharp Well-Researched Tale of Depraved Human Nature 26 settembre 2012
Di Connie Neal - Pubblicato su
Formato: Formato Kindle Acquisto verificato
This well-researched, well-written tale of greed, lust, human depravity, and murder reveals the ugliness and pettiness of people who have allowed their lower nature to reign. I found it especially disturbing because I had lived in Eugene, Oregon one summer when I was just out of high school. The hapless plotting of depraved people and the diligence of law enforcement painted a graphic picture of good vs. evil in our real world. My only reservation comes in that some of the details of the court proceedings were longer than I cared to read, but it was so well written that I could easily skip ahead to where the narrative picked up again without losing a beat. Whew! Relieved to see the evil-doers put away.

5.0 su 5 stelle Bare Naked Truth 20 settembre 2013
Di Boocoos aka Gale Cooney - Pubblicato su
Formato: Formato Kindle Acquisto verificato
I loved this book for what was not in it. The reader is never given any "descriptive fill". No character is presented with so much as light or dark hair or eye coloring, much less "handsome in his exquisitely tailored pin-stripe" or that she wore "her figure-flattering plaid dress which emphasized her flawless complexion". Naked truth is refreshing and interesting regardless of how the characters or setting or any other element is described. Mr. King scraped away all the fat and flesh leaving the bones to tell the truth. No red herrings of mystery writing, no romance, no manipulated timeline. Simply put, it's a progression in timeline fashion of the procedure of getting from point "A" ( the murder) to point "Z" (conviction). If you enjoy true crime, this author appears to be a master of writing it. I thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend it highly.

4.0 su 5 stelle Good, well written and researched murder tale, but... 11 novembre 2012
Di S. Martin - Pubblicato su
Formato: Formato Kindle Acquisto verificato
I did enjoy the attention to detail and the way the story was written. Not entirely original in concept, but it is a true crime tale, and the author did a great job weaving it all together. (Don't read on if you hate spoilers and haven't read it yet!)

Lissy is a classic sociopath, who lies even when it doesn't matter, whose lies are so smooth and so effortless that he is able to drag many women (and men) into his web of deceit. He cons yet another woman into marrying him- Kathy- in order to take advantage of financial gain, and almost immediately begins his plot to get rid of her, which is so cold and unbelievably easy for him to concoct, let alone con others into participating in.

There were moments when I realized I was still hooked but beginning to wonder why I cared, which is hard to explain and yet I feel I must mention. I'm thinking more attachment to the victim would help develop the reaction in the reader. This is why I gave it four stars instead of five. A page turner, but honestly I didn't care as much as I should have.

5.0 su 5 stelle Well written true crime case 31 dicembre 2012
Di Amazon Customer - Pubblicato su

Gary C. King is a very talented true crime writer with a knack for describing the details of a case without sensationalizing it. He always shows great respect for the victim(s) and loved ones involved. He is also very truthful about the detectives who work the cases.

Murder in Room 305 starts out looking like a simple case of robbery/rape/murder, but there are several details that lead investigators to believe that something more sinister happened to the beautiful woman they found dead in her motel room. The author follows investigators as they try to piece together what really happened Kathryn Ann Martini.

5.0 su 5 stelle The Poetry of the Documents 25 gennaio 2012
Di Robert MacLean - Pubblicato su
Formato: Formato Kindle Acquisto verificato
Murder in Room 305 is a fast read in more ways than one--easy to get through and impossible to stop. What winds up the tension is the increasing gap between the neutral documentary approach and the grisly events they bring into focus. There are people who deride what they think of as the clichéd nature of murder mysteries, but not me. We are all connoisseurs of genre books and films--westerns, horrors, romances--and get our pleasure from precisely the way the familiar structure is manipulated, from the nuances the writer brings to it. I'm not going to give the plot away, but I give this one five stars for the chill factor.
