Ho dato 4 stelle e non meno perché in effetti il venditore proponeva in vendita il solo obiettivo, ma non fa piacere vedersi recapitare una scatola vistosamente aperta per sottrarre un paraluce e un sacchetto protettivo che Nikon da insieme all'ottica... veramente di cattivo gusto.

Cercavo qualcosa da affiancare al più potente ma pesante 18-200. Questo compatto obiettivo è perfetto. Anche se non molto luminoso, il prezzo me lo ha fatto preferire a modelli non originali. Tanto compatto che quando non si usa si può fare rientrare completamente l'obiettivo per ridurre la lunghezza. Mi piace molto impugnare la mia D90 con questo pratico obiettivo. Confermo che questa versione ha un ottimo stabilizzatore di immagine e messa a fuoco automatica ovviamente. Purtroppo la confezione è scadente poiché è arrivato in scatola bianca anonima in pluriball. Niente altro. solo l'ottica avvolta nel cellophane. Il tappo posteriore non è il classico Nikon nero, ma in plastica bianca a pressione. Evidentemente estratto da un kit. Sarebbe stato corretto scriverlo nell'inserzione. Il venditore DADOSHOP mi ha comunque mandato prontamente la fattura richiesta per garanzia. Arrivato anche prima del previsto. Confermo per chi avesse dubbi che non c'è paraluce acquistato a parte

Unico appunto da fare è sul fatto che il tappo di chiusura dell'obbiettivo lato innesto corpo macchina fotografica mi risulta usato e non di marca NIKKOR ma Tamron, non è un gravissimo difetto ma una mancanza da parte del venditore di cui non conosco la motivazione, poichè di solito la NIKKOR fornisce tutte parti di sua produzione (eventualmente di NIKON).

Surprising difference at 300mm, Really bad lens.

This is hot off the press and basic feedback after a very quick initial play with this lens. Plus points so far seem to be

1. It is very compact and therefore lightweight lens
2. Focusing is almost instant
3. There is a manual focus wheel which can even be used when autofocus is on
4. With it being an 18 mm to 300 mm lens it means less need to keep changing lenses

I bought this lens basically because I got fed up of constantly changing between the bog standard Nikon 18mm to 55mm lens and a pretty good Tamron 70 mm to 300 mm lens. Ok so I may be comparing apples and oranges here but at 300mm the Tamron actually zooms in more than this lens. This also means you get a much closer shot in macro mode with the Tamron. The difference is quite significant so it's a little surprising and a little disappointing.

I need to check things out a little more but that initial excitement has dissipated by a small amount. I'll keep the lens as I need the convenience more than anything.

UPDATE: I took some shots recently in low light with this lens at 300mm (equivalent to somewhere around 140mm on the Tamron 70-300mm lens) and I noticed how quickly things darkened. So I did a test with both lens and the light difference is amazing, the Tamron winning out easily. This Nikon lens is just shockingly bad. I really wish I'd bought something else but I think too much time has passed now. Basically I would not recommend this lens unless you want only two things, the quietness and speed of the focus. This lens does very little else well. I'm going to save up again for an alternative then sell this as quickly as possible.

I originally had the Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 and in the beginning I loved the lens with its large f/2.8 aperture, quick focusing and sharp image results; if only it had VR; but eventually the honeymoon period came to an end when one day the zoom became gritty and unsmooth in operation and started jamming up. I found out that this was a common issue with the 24-70mm lens and sent it off to Nikon for repair. After the repair the lens was never as good as it was originally, especially with regard to edge sharpness and even in the good times using this the lens I found the maximum zoom of 70mm was a bit on the short side and wished for more reach. In the end I sold my 24-70mm f/2.8 and decided to try the Nikon 24-120mm f/4 VRII lens and I’m glad that I did:-

Although the 24-120mm only has a maximum aperture of f/4; VRII more than makes up for it; especially at the telephoto end when the light gets low; enabling one to keep the ISO setting down for maximum quality images. The extra zoom reach to 120mm is really welcome and is great for portraits; it makes this lens the ideal lens for walkabouts; on holiday, weddings etc. and professionals do use this lens. Then there’s the price, one can buy two or three of these for the cost of the new 24-70mm VR lens; which makes the 24-120mm VRII lens excellent value for money.

What about the performance? On my copy; autofocus is very good and accurate; sharpness is also very good at all zoom settings and I found that the same is true for edge sharpness at all zoom settings (only slight fall off). As far as geometry distortion and vignetting are concern it’s not a issue if use the camera’s distortion and vignetting control and if one is working with RAW images ensure that you have selected the correct lens profile in Lightroom, or Photoshop. Compared to the 24-70mm f/2.8 when it was at its best, the 24-70mm f/2.8 was marginally better in sharpness and autofocus was a bit faster, but then I’m almost splitting hairs here and one is paying a whole lot more for it.

I wish I had bought the 24-120mm f/4 VRII first, instead of the 24-70mm f/2.8; it would have saved me a lot of money. This lens for me doesn't disappoint and if you do buy this lens test it thoroughly as soon as you receive it to make that you have a good copy.

For me, the Nikon 24-120mm f/4 VRII is the prefect companion for my D800.

The well formed 18 - 200mm zoom provides up to 300mm equivalent zoom on a DX Nikon body. I've used it from flower blooms to racing cars screeching around motor circuits and pulled some very sharp and well rendered photos. On auto tracking it will hold focus on formula cars approaching head on at 180mph plus by setting 1/500th shutter speed. It won't pull in clear shots if the racing car is too far out for that you'll need a pro lens but for 90% of the frames you want it will give superb results - with the right technique. It's a bit naff for landscapes but for interiors and tightly framed shots of buildings and townscapes the results are stunning. Don't believe reviews that infer "jack of all trades master of none" this lens will produce excellent well rendered photos pin sharp for a life time of use. It is an investment that will step an order of magnitude above no brand lenses and give you a robust piece of kit you'll use day after day.

-Nikon quality - can not compare to other copies on market
-Prime delivery - super fast
-Amazing prize - discount is unbelievable
VRII lens - the latest VR lens manufactured by Nikon - Which in my opinion makes a great deal of difference.

CONS
-Comes delivered in a white box with a label and not the official Nikon box gold and black

This it self has a few downsides which are not obviously the box.
You will doubt its originality - As I did
Specially when you that the lens comes delivered inside a huge box for a very little lens and that inside the lens is simply wrapped around bubble wrap.
But after doing a lot of research I have found that Amazon is one of the most secure places to buy legitimate products.
Specially those sold through Amazon, so that gives me a kind of a security.
-No lens ID - No Nikon Warranty
Nikon lenses normally come with a little piece of paper which is the warranty.
This paper states the model and the serial number for the lens.
Some Nikon lenses (delivered in the gold and black box) do not have this paper but then on the box itself they would have the serial number, so you can the go to Nikon UK site and register your product.
This lens came without either of them, no paper and no serial on the box (all white box)
As I have personally covered this lens with an Accident Insurance through Domestic & General whom Nikon works with and recommends I was not too bothered about this as having the receipt/invoice is enough as if in any case purchase receipt was ever needed.
I am also guessing customers could contact the seller to get the lens serial number.

IN CASE IT HELPS:
The insurance cover for this lens through Domestic & General is only just over £6 per calendar month for 12 months to protect the lens over any accidental damage and functionality issues for 5 years.
The same cover for 3 years is almost £4.
I must add I do not work for Domestic & General, ha ha ha. Just thought it might help someone.

I was lucky enough to find one of these in a sale and, as I'd wanted one for a long time, I snapped it up. It arrived quickly, perfectly packed and complete in its original packaging. Obviously, I couldn't wait to try it out and, barely out of the package, it went straight onto my Nikon D750 for a wide angle shot of my kitchen. The image looked so good on the camera that I had to put it onto my 27-in iMac screen—it was a stunning photo, extremely sharp and with no sign of aberrations. Since then I've taken pictures with it at all the interim settings up to 120mm and I'm delighted with it. It's an ideal lens for walking about, provided you accept that it's no lightweight. However, I've been used to carrying around a 28-300mm, and there's little difference in weight. The extra bit of wide-angle performance is useful and I don't need the longer length very often. It's been a good buy and I'd recommend it as an excellent lens that would cover the bulk of requirements for many photographers.
