Jack has it all – a beautiful wife and daughter, a home, a career. Then his wife, Rebecca, plunges to her death from the Sussex coast cliffs. Was it an accident or did she jump? He moves to Manchester with his daughter, Naomi, to start afresh, but things don’t go as planned. He didn’t think life could get any worse...
Jack sees a woman in a window who is the image of Rebecca. Attraction turns into obsession as he returns to the window night after night. But he isn’t the only one watching her...
Jack is about to be drawn into a deadly game. The woman lies dead. The latest victim in a series of savage murders. Someone is going to go down for the crimes. If Jack doesn’t find out who the killer is, that 'someone’ may well be him.
From the number one Amazon Charts bestselling author, comes the first book in a dizzyingly suspenseful crime thriller series.
What Amazon and Goodreads readers are saying about Ben Cheetham's books
'Emotional and suspenseful... This is one author who knows about heartbreak more than any other author I've read... The first few chapters are filled with poignancy and regrets... Then the story grows into murders and cat/mouse games.'
'A fantastic psychological thriller... It had literally everything... a deranged serial killer and a hero with more issues than vogue. There is life, death, fear manipulation, lies, betrayal, friendships both old and new made and shattered into pieces and our hero, Jack, is so damaged that I found myself constantly doubting him until the very last page.'
'Dizzying suspense is right. So many names, so many murders and so many twists. I would have never in million years guessed who was behind the crimes. You might be able to figure out some of the puzzle but the ending will set you back.'
'The route to the finale is scattered with secrets, suspects and betrayals. Its a twisty road for sure. Very, very enjoyable.'
'Loved it - a book so packed full of drama and suspense you can't put it down until it's finished!'
'Wow... the most thrilling psychological thriller I've read in a long time. This had me hooked from page one. I could feel the suspense as I was reading.'
'Cheetham delivers a real page turner... Don't hesitate, just get this book! You won't be able to put this down as you race through to find out what happens next. A great read for anyone who likes psychological thrillers full of twists and turns.'

AND then....... the plot is totally unbelievable and extremely silly. Jack goes back to work to investigate a serial murderer. At times he’s lurching about paralytic drunk and the next moment driving a car and is Action Man- as if. The author over complicated the plot and I think he lost it at the same time. The police are idiots who couldn’t detect a pebble on a Sussex beach.
If this is how police behave, then help us all. Won’t be reading anymore by this author.

Detective Inspector Jack Anderson definitely has personal problems. Being an alcoholic, he is not competent. I tired of him being so obsessed with bad memories regarding his wife although I realise he would do. It just got a bit much. The trouble he got himself into and yet managed to evade discovery of his actions was a bit beyond belief.
I did finish the book, was relieved when I did, and it did get a bit more exciting towards the end.

The man lost his wife. The anguish, the pain and the emptiness are laid bare in the paragraphs. The first few chapters are filled with poignancy and regrets so wrenching it breaks my heart just reading about the man who lost his wife and he could not face up to his primary school daughter.
And then the story grows into murders and cat/mouse game between the man who is a detective and the murderer. That is gripping and tense. I didn’t see what’s coming.
These are the author’s work you must lookout for. Go get his books now. They are absolutely brilliant.

Anyway fast forward and the book does get better. If it wasn't for the beginning I would have rated this higher but it is spoilt by the silliness.
Also, Jack manages to go from alcoholic to great detective overnight- not realistic.
It's not the greatest start but hopefully book two will be better
