Unbelievable and Very Silly Plot- NOT Recommended

Jack has moved from Sussex Police to GMP following the death of his wife- suicide. He’s taken to drink- alcoholicly- and whilst off work sick, becomes obsessed with another woman who closely resembles his late wife. In his drunken stupors, Jack stalks the woman.
AND then....... the plot is totally unbelievable and extremely silly. Jack goes back to work to investigate a serial murderer. At times he’s lurching about paralytic drunk and the next moment driving a car and is Action Man- as if. The author over complicated the plot and I think he lost it at the same time. The police are idiots who couldn’t detect a pebble on a Sussex beach.
If this is how police behave, then help us all. Won’t be reading anymore by this author.

Completely ridiculous and unbelievable plot. Who would behave like Jack did? One minute drunk as a skunk, the next he was the best Policeman in Greater Manchester! The ONLY thing that I liked about this book was that it was set in Manchester which is a city I know, so I could kind of visualise where most of the 'action' was taking place.

This book tends to make me think that you can't trust a policeman; I don't think that was the intention.

Detective Inspector Jack Anderson definitely has personal problems. Being an alcoholic, he is not competent. I tired of him being so obsessed with bad memories regarding his wife although I realise he would do. It just got a bit much. The trouble he got himself into and yet managed to evade discovery of his actions was a bit beyond belief.

I did finish the book, was relieved when I did, and it did get a bit more exciting towards the end.

I think this is this one author who knows about heartbreak, men’s loss, more than any other author I’ve read.

The man lost his wife. The anguish, the pain and the emptiness are laid bare in the paragraphs. The first few chapters are filled with poignancy and regrets so wrenching it breaks my heart just reading about the man who lost his wife and he could not face up to his primary school daughter.

And then the story grows into murders and cat/mouse game between the man who is a detective and the murderer. That is gripping and tense. I didn’t see what’s coming.

These are the author’s work you must lookout for. Go get his books now. They are absolutely brilliant.

I struggled with the first 10 chapters simply because it was repeating Jack drinking and asking his dead wife questions! I nearly gave up during this time because of the repetitive verses!

Anyway fast forward and the book does get better. If it wasn't for the beginning I would have rated this higher but it is spoilt by the silliness.

Also, Jack manages to go from alcoholic to great detective overnight- not realistic.

It's not the greatest start but hopefully book two will be better
