4.0 su 5 stelle 2001 Unidisc CD Version Of His 1965 Canadian LP Arc ACM-5002 25 aprile 2014
Di George O'Leary - Pubblicato su
Formato: Audio CD
Canadian vocalist Terry Black, born in Vancouver, British Columbia on February 3, 1949, was one of the more successful Canadian artists from the mid-1960s into about 1975 with numerous sides doing well on the Canadian charts, mostly for Arc Records, first launched in Toronto in 1958 by Philip G. Anderson and William R. Gilliland. In terms of his success on the U.S. national charts it can best be described as modest with one solo effort making the lowest regions of the Billboard Pop Hot 100 in 1964 and the other, some 8 years later, reaching the middle regions of those charts in 1972 in a duet with his first wife, Laurel Ward.

That initial U.S. entry was Unless You Care which, after reaching the upper levels of various elements of the Canadian listings as Arc 1074 in October 1964 b/w Can't We Be Sweethearts? Not bad in the face of the British Invasion, but it barely made the Billboard Hot 100 when released in the U.S. as Tollie 9026, stalling at # 99 in November. Both sides are in the only two current CDs available covering his music - the two covered here - which reprise two original Arc vinyl albums: 1964's "The Black Plague" (Arc ACM-5001) and 1965's "Only 16" (Arc ACM-5002) - both in 2001 by Unidisc. The sound reproduction quality in both is excellent.

What neither carries (and it would have been nice to see them added as "bonus" tracks in at least one of them had that been possible) are either side of his February 1972 # 57 Hot 100 Goin' Down (On The Road To L.A.) And its flipside Oh Babe, billed as Terry Black And Laurel Ward on Kama Sutra 540. I have yet to run across those sides in a quality CD setting, not even the large Hey! Look What I Found series which specialized in those sorts of tracks.

On June 28, 2009 Terry sadly passed away at age 60 in Kamloops, British Columbia from complications developed after coming down with multiple sclerosis.
