I'm no connoisseur of headphones, but from an Average Joe's perspective let me put to rest any "lackluster sound quality comments" you may have read previously by saying these sound absolutely beautiful. I've already had a few long gaming sessions with these headphones and have found the sound quality perfectly satisfactory at only 1/4 the volume. That being said, I also find them surprisingly comfortable. I have found it easy to get lost in the game and forget that I am wearing headphones. These headphones amplify the gaming experience and make it feel more intimate with online play.
If you’re like I was: on the fence about this pair and a Turtle Beach set scouring comments to see who liked what the best…go with these.
I'm really glad I picked these up after some serious research on decent headphones with good a good mic. I love the weight and look of them, the padding in the band is extremely comfortable on the top of my head. The modular cords are a huge bonus and allow for a lot of flexibility. I can simply removed the cord from the headphone and walk to the kitchen for something quick and plug back in. Sure I could simply take them off, but I like having them on my head. Great sound quality when listening to music and editing for podcasts. I like the isolation when editing audio. I also use them when I transcribe speech samples into IPA. Great headset please check out the pro's/con's listed below.
-Love that cords can be disconnected. I keep the PC audio/mic cord plugged into my back panel and simply unplug when I want to connect to my mobile.
-Long cord for PC, I can get up and walk within a good radius of my computer.
-Mic sound quality
-Easy to mute external mic button
-Easy to attach and detach external mic when you don't want something just sitting in your face.
-Mic is enclosed in a nice thick housing and very adjustable.
-Ear cups are roomy, but I do have smaller ears so keep that in mind!
-Cans have good flex on them like the 90 degree rotation so they lay flat. also good for one ear listening when the need arises for a quick listen to something.
-Comfortable, a little tight, but I wear them for 4-6 hours at a time with no adverse affects. Have fallen asleep in them multiple times without waking up with a headache. For reference I wear a 7 an 1/4 in new era fitted caps.
-Fits comfortable over baseball hats comfortably.
-Fits under a hood easily if you like to wear hoodies while sitting at a computer like I do.
-Love the look
-Nice heft to them without feeling like my head is being weighed down.
-There are a lot of cords. (tucked into a box and tossed in a drawer for safe keeping)
-No audio feedback in the ears when recording audio. I'm sure I can fix that with an application.
-Cans can isolate you from external sounds (Just a note if you have children or other sounds you need to be aware of. Also inconvenient if using it to talk to people on your phone.)
-As with all closed headphones your ears get hot and can get a bit sweaty depending on the overall ambient temperature.
-Ear cup leather covers not as thick as I would prefer (previous headphones were a memory foam with open back)
Other Notes from Other Reviews:
-Some reviewers have stated that only one ear cup transmits audio if you are using the mic at the same time. Simply not true. I get sound in both ears while using the external mic. I can only speak for this being plugged into a PC. Check your cables.
-From my knowledge this isn't an issue for the inline mic on mobile and hasn't been for me either.
-Recorded Audio I get dual channel when recording in stereo*** tested on an OBS recording as well as in Audition.
***I was originally not getting stereo recording from my mic, but my Realtek Drivers were not updated! After an update to my drivers the issue has completely resolved itself. So please update your drivers and see if that fixes any issues you are having. Of course you can always force mono in some cases or set within a program to record the same channel as stereo.
Sidenote: Now that my drivers are updated, Windows10 will not recognize the microphone, so I couldn't verify that it was working in Voice Recorder and I could not be set-up through the windows microphone utility. I'm assuming that means that Cortana is out, but I don't use her anyway.
Things not Tested:
-Glasses I haven't tried wearing this with glasses yet.
I'll start with the positive: the sound quality is above average and the mic is studio quality. This version comes with multiple jacks that connect to the headphones themselves, meaning if you're swapping from PC to tablet to PS4 in somewhat rapid succession, you don't need to carry the cable with you. Just leave the proper one where the device is and carry the headphones. The over-ear cups also drown out enough noise that I couldn't hear my door being knocked on from ten feet away.
The negative: first, it carries a fair bit of interference, which isn't particularly noticeable when sound is playing, but in the absence of it is annoying. I actually suspect it amplifies but is drowned out; using these headphones for a week (at low volume levels) gave me some serious tinnitus. Second, the pictures don't really do it justice. It's a bit like those cereal boxes where in small print they read "photo enlarged to show texture". I have a very large head, and this headset, fully extended, doesn't fit it. If I tilt it backward I can fit it around my head, but then it twists my ears. I don't have particularly large ears, but they have to fold to go into the ear cups. This wouldn't bother me, except that 1) I need to wear them at an angle to fit in them and 2) after a few hours of use it causes them to lose sensation. When I take the headset off, they try to go back to normal, and it's...very unpleasant. Finally, the jack meant to work with the PS4 controller is oddly shaped, and jostling it will cause audio to cut and crackle or fade out entirely.
So, despite this coming highly recommended to me, I cannot recommend it to others. No headset I've used in the last ten years comes close my Tritton headset--even new Tritton headsets, which are just as uncomfortable and low quality as this one.
