Altra piccola perla Made by Pentatonix! Questi ragazzi sono bravissimi e questo ultimo album ne un ulteriore conferma! Peccato che sia anche l'ultimo firmato dalla formazione originale visto l'abbandono a breve del Basso Avi Kaplan! Peccato!

5.0 su 5 stelle Yet another excellent release by Pentatonix 10 aprile 2017
Di Paul Chiu - Pubblicato su Amazon.com
Formato: Audio CD Acquisto verificato
We've got another belter of a release by Pentatonix. The vocal performance and sound quality on this EP are as expected. What really sets this one apart from their others is that it really shows how the group is evolving. There is no electronic alteration in these arrangements, but the group does some very simple vocal effects (with a megaphone) that work wonderfully. This can be heard in Bohemian Rhapsody. Every other song on the EP just oozes class, poise, fun, and emotion. The final track is their Grammy Award winning arrangement of Jolene (featuring Dolly Parton). Though the original is truly ICONIC, the PTX arrangement is brilliantly original yet pays wonderful homage to the original. It is the perfect way to introduce a whole new generation to Jolene and to Dolly herself. You will not regret this purchase.

5.0 su 5 stelle The diversity is ever-widening as they take those chances and their vocals are maturing ... 7 aprile 2017
Di Deb - Pubblicato su Amazon.com

On any different day you can ask me who my favorite Pentatonix singer is and I’ll give you a different answer. Scott, Mitch, Kevin, Kirsten, and Avi ... I love them all and, as they say in polls, for different reasons. What most love about the entire group is that they’ve grown tremendously, maturing into a cohesive group that can seem to do no wrong (least ways to my ears). I’ve watched them from the earliest days, pitting themselves against other vocalists, trying to come out on top. No spoilers here, because we know they’re winners.

What I always enjoyed the most about them is their willingness to take chances, to venture outside of their comfort zone, reaching for arrangements others wouldn’t touch. In this album, it’s simply stunning. They’re reaching out to every generation, from the Traditionalists with “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” to the iGen with “Over the Rainbow.” Of course no generation can totally lay claim to any tune because with “Imagine” they’re touching us all.

The videos out there mesmerize me, but there’s one song in particular that seems to bring me back time and again to them. It was before country was cool and, of course, the artist that was cool before ‘n after is Dolly Parton. The sheer artistry that can be heard in “Jolene” once again transcends all of the imagined lines that divide us. Pentatonix is the one group that brings us all together through their music. They dare to take the chance, whether it’s country, Christmas, or classical.

Those “chances” are enabling me to appreciate the music of other generations while remembering and embracing that of my own. Can you imagine taking on “Bohemian Rhapsody” AND “Jolene?” Not exactly bedfellows, but the interpretations are amazingly good. I have to give it to Pentatonix, they certainly dare to put themselves out there, but who can criticize their vocals? A simply stunning album I’ll be playing in the house and in the car for months. All of their voices have matured, much to the benefit of the whole group.

I seldom buy CDs because let’s face it, there’s SirusXM, Pandora, YouTube, and any number of ways to listen for less (or outright free). The CD seems to be going the way of the dinosaur and in fact, I’ve just put a couple of tags on my Case Logic cases for the old lawn sale. However ... Pentatonix is one group that is bringing the desire to have the “real” thing once again in my house and my vehicle. This is probably their overall best accomplishment yet.

5.0 su 5 stelle Pentatonix's cover of these classics will give you chills! 13 aprile 2017
Di SC Nagy - Pubblicato su Amazon.com

Once again, 3-time Grammy award winning Pentatonix has blown all expectations out of the water and created an album that pushes the boundary of what can be accomplished with the human voice. Their a cappella renderings of these seven songs are absolutely without parallel. No matter what era of music you are fond of, this album will strike a chord with you because they faithfully capture the essence of each song while putting their Pentatonix signature touch on them. There is plenty of "ear candy" to listen for, and even the purists will be pleased with how faithfully Pentatonix imitated not only the timing but also the sounds and stylings of the original artists.

Bohemian Rhapsody: This song is far and away makes the album worth buying. In an interview, Pentatonix once said they were afraid to record this song because it is so challenging, and for good reason. Freddy Mercury's range was extraordinary, and the harmony singing parts combined with the instruments makes for a serious challenge when it comes to laying down so many sounds. Yet not only did they accomplish exactly that, but they did so in a way that will blow your mind. Mitch busts out the high-end notes and does some sick guitar imitations, backed up by the other four in the a cappella sections of the song, as they duplicate the same style of bouncing notes between artists that Queen employed on the song. Kevin's beatboxing is particularly impressive in this song, because he so perfectly duplicates the sound of the cymbals and drums that carry the instrumental portions. I wouldn't be surprised if this one earns them yet another grammy nomination. Freddy would be proud.

Imagine: This song so perfectly embodies what Pentatonix is all about...diversity united to create something amazing. All of their vocal talents are highlighted throughout this song. All five of them sing solos (yes, Kevin too!), and their five-part harmonies are stunning. They interpreted this Beatles classic so beautifully that it will send shivers down your spine.

Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy: If you aren't familiar with the original from the 40's, listen to the two of them side by side. The intro is so spot-on, its just uncanny, down to the crackling of the record and gramophone distortion. This is yet another song (like Daft Punk and so many others) where you're left wondering how they even pull off some of those sounds. The bugle impersonation is killer, and the lyrical imitation of this chart-topping classic from the 50's will remind you why Pentatonix has become so successful.

Over the Rainbow: This song has been covered by everyone from jazz musicians to Celtic groups, so its hard to imagine that Pentatonix could do something new with it. Yet once again, Pentatonix absolutely shines at making their cover truly unique. Right from the start they start pulling out delightful chord changes and stylings that are positively exquisite. Over and over they utilize moving chord progressions that create unexpectedly fun and interesting resolutions and contrasts between the melody and backup singers. Kristie absolutely shines in singing the solo for this song, with superb vocal control, expression, and some serious lung-power. This is yet another song where the arrangement showcases how great they sound in five-part harmonies.

Take On Me: This synthpop classic by A-Ha is no joke when it comes to doing a cover. Mitch's vocal range is truly on display, covering the entire two and a half octaves of the solo himself. In typical fashion for all five of these artists, he absolutely crushes it. Avi and Kevin lay down an awesome bass and drum backing track, while Scott and Kristie's harmonic parts give the song the Pentatonix styling that has made them famous.

Can't Help Falling In Love: Written in the same vocal style as Run To You from PTX Vol II, this cover is a gorgeous rendition of this Elvis classic from the 60's. The five part harmonies explore delicious chord progressions and give this pop ballad a wonderful sense of movement and gentle beauty.

Jolene: This triumphant performance of Jolene with its original artist is such a great way to showcase their joint work and wrap up the EP. Dolly Parton joins Pentatonix and once again sings much of the lead for her 70's hit single. As testament to Pentatonix's vocal abilities, this song won them a third Grammy (Dolly's ninth), but in a new category (Best Country Duo/Group).

It's short, but phenomenal! Bohemian Rhapsody is worth the disc all by itself.

5.0 su 5 stelle One of my favorite albums from these guys 28 maggio 2017

One of my favorite albums from these guys. I've been following them for years. They have such a unique sound that you can't find anywhere else. It sure is hard to tell it's a capella unless you really focus in on each sound. I think what made this album so great is their cover of Bohemian Rhapsody. That song is usually untouchable but they killed it. Not only did they do it justice, but their spin really revitalizes the classic tune and makes it modern. Some may disagree that revamping old songs is a good thing, but when you do it this well theres no arguing about it. The other songs on this album are also incredible but that one song alone makes it worth purchasing and supporting this talented group. I highly recommend this album to anybody who appreciates the work and dedication some artists put into their music. You won't be disappointed!
