Jaded rock star, Demetri Daniels, is in Hell — also known as Seaside, Oregon. Sent to rehab after nearly getting himself killed last year, his record company wants nothing more than for him to lay low, away from the limelight.

Irritated and more alone than he’s ever been in his life, Demetri tries desperately to rebuild his shattered reputation as a drug addict and player, which proves to be difficult when he meets Alyssa.

Alyssa is everything he should stay away from. She’s beautiful, smart, but above all else, she’s damaged. And one thing Demetri has learned is two broken hearts don’t equal a whole.
In the end, he has to decide if he can rise above the life he’s created in learning from his past mistakes, or fall into the darkness of his choices.

**This is a New Adult Novel..minor language, drug usage, and sexual situations. Not appropriate for younger readers**

This story was heavier than the first one as it dealt A LOT with grief and regret. While it was well informed and sensitive, it was hard to find the love story between Demetri and Alyssa when Alyssa's previous boyfriend Brady was such a great guy. Every time Alyssa went back in time to a memory with Brady, I fell more in love with him and swooned. No, he was not perfect but neither is Demetri and sweet Alyssa deserves true love. I could definitely see why it was so hard for her to move on. Honestly, it was very depressing.

The story starts off with the rock star, Demetri, getting a lowly job at the taffy shop which required masses amount of REALLY SUSPENDING BELIEF! Demetri, crushed by a broken heart, drug addiction and reckless driving, is trying to turn his life around with the help of his therapist and closest friends. He wants the consuming love his brother has with Natalee, but feels he has used up his one chance at true love when his girlfriend died in a car accident. Natalee talks him into a common job working at the taffy shop because he has no inspiration to write songs. While there, he meets the competition in the form of Alyssa, the beautiful, sarcastic girl who was not charmed by who he is and becomes his muse.

Thus begins their love story: "What if you take the one part of me that's finally started to breathe without crying?" - Alyssa
"No. I won't leave you alone. I won't abandon you. I'm sure as hell not going to listen to you, and you can damn well know that I'm going to fight for you". - Demetri

Both Alyssa and Demetri have suffered loss and, I am not going to lie, the grief sessions at Demetri's house made me tear up. There were these flash backs of Alyssa and her boyfriend Brady that were so sweet, that the loss hurt that much more. It was hard to read. The whole book was emotionally draining and, while many will find this romantic, it is not my type of story.

Was it as good as Tear? Well, not really; it was definitely emotional, but not as romantic or filled with good drama, just sadness. At least it didn't have a stupid love triangle, I really hate those. You could really tell a female was writing Demetri's thoughts and it was a little lame sometimes because, as he confesses himself, he was really acting like a girl.

Some confusion on story integrity: Demetri claims to be both nineteen and eighteen in the book which is it? Also, how hard all these kids fell in love at such a young age (15) - it is so Romeo and Juliet. And Alec and Nat's relationship sure got boring - where'd their spice go? It's too early for the honeymoon to be over! And his reveal to Demetri that he might have got another girl in trouble was just wrong on so many levels. Apparently book 3, Shatter, will be written from Alec's POV and will strain his relationship with Nat as AD2 becomes REALITY TV.

Rachel Van Dyken is an entertaining writer who always keeps me turning the pages, and even though this one was too heavy for me, I will definitely be purchasing book 3! Her stories are definitely YA, not New Adult, but for .99, it is a STEAL.

No Swearing or sex; but there was intense kissing, drug and alcohol use and sleepovers

Would I/Did I buy it? Yes (.99)
Would I read it again? Probably
Would I recommend it to friends? Yes

I do believe I liked Pull more than Tear. Probably due in large part because it's not a love triangle. I'm just one of those weirdos that doesn't really love those.

I also think the writing got better as the book went on. And I think I also like that it's not a stand alone book. It does bring up (important) stuff from the last book but doesn't make us hash through it for a 2nd time.

And I fell head over heels for Demetri. Do you love it when the leading male fights for the girl he loves no matter how hard she runs away trying to fight her demons on her own? Then this is the book for you! Demetri grew by leaps and bounds and I loved watching who he was becoming. And he still had his witty personality that provided lots of laughter.

And I liked Alyssa. Took me a while to warm to her. Because while I did love her sarcastic personality, I may have been overdone by the "I'm going to run away from the perfect man so that I can be alone in my suffering" type of character in the books I've read recently. But working through her grief and the surprises along her discovery helped me to have compassion for her. I grew to love her and Demetri together.

I think the author did a great job with Demetri's point of view. I've come to a place where I cringe when books have lots of crying males. And I'll admit... I got a little nervous with this one. But no need, because I think this is a great example to show that it's totally ok (and great) for men to cry and yet not be chicks about it. I don't know that I'm explaining it well, but there are times you can hear the female author behind a male POV and I didn't here. I enjoyed Demetri. And I can't wait to hear more from him.

There was one part in this book that when it was 1st revealed I thought it was cheesy (sorry!). But over time I was won over and turns out it's the whole reason for the 3rd book. Ha- whoops. Glad it won me over. ;) I'm looking forward to seeing what happens.

There are some editing booboos like practically every single ebook out now. And those don't bug me. But there was one little part where in the midst of Alyssa's POV we get an accidental sentence from Demetri's POV.
But seriously... the book is 99 cents so I say get over and read on. ;)

HASH(0xa34ac564) su 5 stelle PULL--Highly Recommend 28 febbraio 2013

What can I say about Pull? I must admit that I was eagerly awaiting the release of this book. After reading the first book in this series, Tear I could not wait to see what Rachel Van Dyken had up her sleeve with Demetri Daniels in Pull. And let me tell you she did not disappoint. I do not want to give anything away, so what I will say is that the book and her writing gets to you, hooks you, grabs you and PULLS you right in. Her characters are real and therefore flawed. You get to see and live through their raw and often times gritty emotional journal through both their struggles with their past and their current everyday life. I definitely recommend this book. I not only did not want to put this book down, I also didn’t want it to end! (My only other recommendation is while you could read just this book, if you want to truly understand Demetri, PLEASE read Tear first!)

I received an ARC of PULL from the author, in exchange for an honest review)

Pull is the second book I have read in the Seaside Series by Rachel Van Dyken. I was completely torn in Tear between Alec and Demetri. After reading Pull I can so see why Alyssa would swoon for Demetri. This guy is Swoon worthy! Rachel Van Dyken has written yet another wonderful story that had me completely captivated from page one all the way to the end. I love this book, there is so many emotions in that I may suggest grabbing a Kleenex box, I laughed, I cried, I just thoroughly enjoyed it.
Demetri is trying really hard to keep his life on track in this book. He's having a rough time of it but he's doing it day by dy. Demetri really is a bad boy that has a heart made of solid gold. When he meets Alyssa things are a little rough between them at first. But watching these two get to know each other and helping each other heal. They are exactly what the other needs and reading their story is an emotional roller coaster ride.

Alyssa has been in such a dark place for so long when Demetri comes along, he is exactly what she needs to help her start living again. I loved Alyssa and felt her pain and her misery of what she has been through. When things start to work out between her and Demetri I was so excited for both of them. This girl needed love and someone to show her how to live again. Demetri is just the guy to do that.

There is a lot of drama in this book that most certainly kept me turning pages quickly. If you have read Tear, then you must read Pull if you have not already. I liked that Alec and Nat would appear to lend that little bit of support or an ear for Demetri. I love series books because I love catching up with all my "friends" from previous books. I have Shatter in my to read pile and I CAN NOT wait to start reading it. I wonder what wonderful story Rachel has came up with for us next.

I was very lucky to receive a copy of this book to read and share my thoughts with you. Stay tuned for my thoughts on Shatter soon.

Demetri, the man whore from the first book has really redeemed himself. I actually didn't think that was possible but he did it. He won my heart, more than Alec did. He was a complete and utter a-hole and so jerk in the first book but he really grew as a character and was a more complex and developed character than Nat and Alec.

Demetri and Alyssa are too very messed up people with issues a mile long. They have so much grief, pain, regret, self-esteem and bitterness locked inside of them. It's not until both figure out that guess they learn to love themselves first, they can't truly love someone else. They heal themselves and each other, they strengthen each other and their relationship is really beautiful.

I really, really liked this book. I liked it so lot more than the first, the characters and the book was well written with a lot more depth and more detail of the characters past, backgrounds and more insight into who they are and what they think and feel. The story touched a lot of heavy subject and I really liked how the author tackled them. I feel like her writing got better with this book. I can't wait to read the next!!
