Loved the book and love Ivana. Sounds like she was a very loving hands on mom and I loved that all 3 of her children keep commenting in the book to back up what she said. If children really love a mother like her children so, it says a lot about a person. She had very high standards and stressed morals, good manners and she didn't lavish them with too many things like many wealthy parents do. I loved her telling about how she grew up. Read it ! You won't be able to put it down.

Great primer on how to raise productive and responsible children regardless of social class. Raising children today is challenging enough as it is but raising children with extreme social and financial privileges has even greater challenges. From this last election, the American public could witness how articulate, intelligent and competent all the Trump kids are of Donald & Ivana so I was intrigued by how she did it. As a mother of three grown children comparable in age to the three oldest Trump kids, I found her approach to raising her children very much like my own. She talked about the importance of making the kids earn their own money with age-appropriate tasks, checked, she communicated very openly and honestly with her children (checked) regarding her divorce from their father and the death of their maternal grandfather with whom her children were very close to. She stressed the importance of being strict but loving and affectionate with her children, checked. She shared how she kept an eye on her children during their teen years when they were at boarding school by scrutinizing the company they kept (checked). During her visits to their schools she would create social opportunities to meet their friends/roommates and keenly observed their friends' behaviors looking for signs of substance abuse, laziness or lack of manners, etc. If any one of them didn't measure up to the standards she had for her children, she would quietly find a way to distance her children from them. The most important quality she displayed throughout all her years of raising her children was that she was a conscientious mother and stayed on top of their growth and development. Even though she had nannies, there are still many things that only a mother can do for her children to ensure their well-being; especially their emotional and social development. Considering that she lived a very busy life managing multiple business entities with Trump and post-Trump as a single-mother, in addition to her jet-set life-style, I think based on the outcome of her children she did a phenomenal job. Many of what Ivana shared about how she raised her children is universally accepted as sound principles for raising responsible adults. What makes her story so compelling was seeing how she applied it in the rarified world of extreme wealth and privilege. When raising children with extreme privileges, the easier road is to give into them by giving them whatever they want but doing so would have been a disservice to them and to society as we all have witnessed in the press of certain rich misbehaving, entitled children of some of America's most prominent families (Hiltons). It's harder to take the path that Ivana took but in the end, everyone benefits: the child can stand on his own and feel good about his own success; society benefits from their contributions and their current and future families are blessed by the good choices they made. As Dr. Phil always says “you choose the behavior, you choose the consequences.” The only criticism I have of this book was that Ivana made it sound too easy as if her children rarely or never rebelled or challenged her making it all seem too sugar-coated. Granted, I know her methods work as I raised my three children (a son and two daughters) in a similar fashion but it wasn’t easy. My three children are adults now and all are very accomplished. They are all college educated: an investment banker in Asia; an H.R. consultant in the entertainment industry; and an investment analyst with Goldman Sachs. Most important, they are all kind, caring, respectful, hard-working, actively contribute to their communities and are raising their families responsibly. The process wasn't without its fair share of challenges along the way but as with Ivana's journey, it was well worth it.
Great book! I've read in 2 days and enjoyed it very much. It is insightful, nicely written, well arranged and thought-out. No fluff. Reflections on life, anecdotes, pragmatism and parenting tips. Some photos too. At times, it feels like having actual conversation or reading a diary.
The book centered around Ivana's children, but is very revealing about her own character which shows right through it, and she comes off as a great person with admirable qualities. Ivana's approach to raising kids really resonated with me on many levels, and I liked how she kept it so down-to-earth, disciplined, structured, based on goals and values, but at the same time affectionate and caring. Good reminder that all of your efforts matter and they all add up to the life you are living :)
