Sinossi

Determined to live a dark life in the company of the assassin who freed her from bondage, Sarai sets out on her own to settle a score with an evil sadist. Unskilled and untrained in the art of killing, the events that unfold leave her hanging precariously on the edge of death when nothing goes as planned.

Sarai’s reckless choices send her on a path she knows she can never turn back from and so she presents Victor with an ultimatum: help her become more like him and give her a fighting chance, or she’ll do it alone no matter the consequences. Knowing that Sarai cannot become what she wants to be overnight, Victor begins to train her and inevitably their complicated relationship heats up.

As Arthur Hamburg’s right-hand man, Willem Stephens, closes in on his crusade to destroy Sarai, she is left with the crushing realization that she may have bitten off more than she can chew. But Sarai, taking on the new and improved role of Izabel Seyfried, still has a set of deadly skills of her own that will prove to be all she needs to secure her place beside Victor.

But there is one test that Izabel must face that has the potential to destroy everything she is working so hard to achieve. One final test that will not only make her question her decision to want this dangerous life, but will make her question everything she has come to trust about Victor Faust.

*entra in groppa al suo destriero facendo un fracasso tremendo, srotola la pergamena che ha in mano e legge ai cittadini ciò che vi è scritto* IO AMO ALLA FOLLIA J.A. REDMERSKI! Oh my Gooood, che cosa ho appena letto!!! Doppio cavoloe un I love you so much per Victor :Q_ Wow, wow e ancora woooow!!!

“I’m not sure what this is between us,” he says carefully, “but I am sure that I don’t want it to stop. Whatever it is.”

Reviving Izabel was a great follow up and a great end to Sarai and Victor's story! It picks up about five months after the ending of Killing Sarai with her doing something incredibly stupid. Leading a normal life has not been working out too well for Sarai, since Victor is in her every thought. She also just can't stand living in a world where Hamburg and Stephens are alive, so she plots to kill them herself. Well, her attack on the disgusting Hamburg doesn't go well, since she really had no plan in place. But one good thing came out of it: Victor came back for her, and now he's going to train her so she doesn't get herself killed on her self-assigned mission.

I know I said I was happy about the lack of romance in the first book. It just wasn't the right time for Sarai and Victor to get together, but they're reunited in Reviving Izabel and I couldn't wait for them to get to the kissing! I still loved that there were no big declarations of love. These are not lovey dovey people. In fact, Victor has been suppressing his feelings for so long, that I wouldn't have believed him if he said the words. Instead, he just shows Sarai how much he cares and how she changed things for him! What those two have is passion! Lots and lots of passion!

The plot of Reviving Izabel was really great, too. Victor doesn't just let Sarai run after those men she wants dead, and she doesn't try to. She does the training, and asks Victor not to make excuses for her when she screws up. And boy does she screw up at times. But she owns it, learns from it, and moves on! There's no crying in assassination! But there is a lot of squirming. Being brought into the fold also means that Sarai has to get to know Frederik. The chapters where he does his work...um, yeah, very uncomfortable. But I'm so glad his book is next! I must know more about this "unbreakable" man!

My only disappointment with Reviving Izabel was that last chapter. It was kind of like how when a TV show gets a movie after like ten years (I'm lookin' at you Veronica Mars and Sex in the City) and the opening credits are one big info dump of what happened previously and what happened between then and now. I liked getting this closure, but I much rather would have read about it as it was unfolding! Lots of interesting stuff happened and it was just reduced to an epilogue. Other than though, I'm quite satisfied with how things turned out.

Yikes. Uh...2.5...no, I'll go with 3 stars. I think I am literally the ONLY person I saw that did not give this a 5 star rating. Gah! I hate that. The first 40% was a struggle for me and it really took me quite a while to figure out what the problem was. I...I don't like Sarai anymore. *cringes and throws arms up to block face*
I'm sorry...truly because I so enthusiastically and completely LOVED the first one, but this one... *sad face*
I was happy to get Fredrick...and Niklas even...
I don't know I just really couldn't get with Sarai on this one, I wasn't feeling her or the thing between her and Victor, I don't know what my problem is, I so wanted to love it!
I will read the next one. I adore J.A. and I think maybe this was just an off one for me. I hope
4.0 su 5 stelle Redmerski continues to enthrall readers with her story of love and murder... 14 dicembre 2015

As soon as I finished Killing Sarai I was on to the next one. In Reviving Izabel, Victor and Sarai's relationship continues. Redmerski feeds her readers more action and thrills, twists and turns, and a very surprising ending. But, what I loved the most about this second installment was the character development. Sarai and Victor are two very complex characters, and in this story things only become more complicated for them. Sarai is a flower blooming in a dark room; we watch her struggle to find her place in the world. She knows that after all that she's been through, she can never live a normal life. But, she is finding life as a killer hard to accept. And, Victor continues to battle his own demons, struggling to understand that little red thing that beats inside his chest. Their individual stories are intriguing, but their love for one another evolves greatly in Reviving Izabel. They are each other's salvation and destruction. And, watching them try to figure out which one is more important -- the fact that they bring out the best in each other or the fact that they could get each other killed -- is captivating.

We also get development from a character we saw only a glimpse of in Killing Sarai: Fredrik! I lurve Fredrik. He's mysterious, and he's got a dark past and a sadistic appetite for torturing and killing people. He's a very interesting character and I can't wait to read The Swan & the Jackal (In the Company of Killers #3), which is told from his point-of-view. Book Three delves into his past and focuses on his ghosts coming to visit him in the present (it has nothing to do with A Christmas Carol, though). And, did I mention that he's like...gorgeous?

You may note that I deducted half a star from this book's rating, giving it 4.5 stars. Yeah, so there was this thing that bothered me about the book. As I mentioned in my review of Killing Sarai, Sarai can be annoying at times. And, I felt like her immaturity was intensified in this book. Again, I like her character, but she seemed to whine and complain a bit. However, I feel that, in contrast to Victor, her naivety and rashness makes sense. Not only is he a skilled assassin, but he is approximately twenty years older than her. Technically, he's old enough to be her father and at times their relationship does feel very father-child like, especially considering the way he chides her. I feel like the author uses that dynamic to remind us of their age difference, of his experience vs. her lack thereof. But, I just didn't like it. In the first book, they felt more like equals; her strength and determination matched his ease and confidence. But now it feels like, as Sarai put it, she's an "orphan dropped off on [his] doorstep". Like he has to take care of her. Ummm? She is more than capable of taking care of herself! (I'm too tired to go on a feminist rant right now, and this "mini" review is already too long. But, I have a lot of feelings! Just know that.) However, the end of the book solved this issue for me, wrapping things up rather nicely. Not to be spoilery, but Sarai kind of stands up for herself and is like "Ok, no. No Damsel in Distress here." So, I only deducted half a star!

Reviving Izabel maintains all of the facets that I loved about Killing Sarai: it's fast-paced and full of action and romance and suspense. I can't wait to continue on with the series!
5.0 su 5 stelle great energy and a great thriller 9 gennaio 2014

I have not read a great thriller in a long time. I use to only read James Patterson books, but I enjoyed this one. Love Sarai, victor, and Frederick. I liked the story of training Sarai to become an assassin. Revenge is rewarding for those who were damaged in life by those who think they are better than others. It's interesting how they continue to kill without ever raising suspicion. Even good killers get caught eventually. Not sure that part is believable. Maybe not the importance of the story line, maybe it had more to do with trust. Liked how Sarai taught victor how to reach back into his human side and victor taught Sarai discipline. Would have liked an explanation why victor can't get Sarai pregnant. Was he impotent or fixed by the order?

Redmerski twists the damsel in distress fantasy into a sex slave turned assassin story. This sequel to Killing Sarai follows Sarai's transformation into a savvy assassin under Victor's careful guidance. I always enjoy Redmerski's novels because she writes her characters and their struggles with significance, nothing is trivial and she doesn't waste her readers' time. I'm especially fond of the relationship between Victor and Sarai because of the unconventional nature of both characters and how in this novel they discover aspects of their personalities that neither thought they were capable of and how these things bring them together. I was surprised at the striking plot twist and definitely recommend this book.
