In New York Times Bestselling author Nalini Singh’s newest contemporary romance, passion ignites between a gorgeous, sinfully sexy man who built himself up from nothing and a shy woman who has a terrible secret in her past…

Wealthy businessman Gabriel Bishop rules the boardroom with the same determination and ruthlessness that made him a rock star on the rugby field. He knows what he wants, and he’ll go after it no-holds-barred.

And what he wants is Charlotte Baird.

Charlotte knows she’s a mouse. Emotionally scarred and painfully shy, she just wants to do her job and remain as invisible as possible. But the new CEO—a brilliant, broad-shouldered T-Rex of a man who growls and storms through the office, leaving carnage in his wake—clearly has other plans. Plans that may be equal parts business and bedroom.

If Charlotte intends to survive this battle of wits and hearts, the mouse will have to learn to wrangle the T-Rex. Game on.

Oh, beh.

This book started very good for me, too bad it did not keep up this way until the end. Instead of a love story, I felt I was having a full immersion in the healing process of an abused woman. This book made me go through every tiny step and to me it was too much for this kind of reading.

This is my first book by Nalini Singh. I had mixed feelings. I know Charlie was getting over a huge trauma which had cast a long shadow over her life... but she was too much of a shrinking violet for my tastes. If she had been a little more of an achiever in (say) a career where she didn't have to interact much with people, but remained really gunshy in her personal life, I think I might have related to her more. But between her timid personality (occasionally standing up to the hero notwithstanding) and Gabriels' extreme assertiveness-- plus the fact that she was his flippin' secretary-- I felt like I was being carried back to 1970s Mills & Boon land.

That said, there was a lot good about this novel. I did like the fact that Gabriel was perceptive enough to realize that Charlie had suffered something major, and that he had to move very slowly. And heck, kudos to him for also appreciating her mind. The sex, once they worked up to it, was loving but also spicy. In fact, I thought it was an interesting idea to pair the damaged Charlie with a hero who is very earthy and raw in his sexual desires. Having him put those on hold because he cared for Charlotte was a choice that added good tension to the story.

One other thing I objected to was the fact that Gabriel was super wealthy and super successful in everything he did. It just didn't seem real. Why not have him be a former rugby teacher who is now leading a regular life-- I don't know, as a high school coach or something-- and who meets this shy lovely woman and sees what few others do? That she is worth getting to know. I would have found a story about two regular people struggling together for a happy ending, rather than the "rich-powerful male protects the meek woman" trope, far more compelling.

These comments aside, it was a good enough read that I will probably try another novel by this author.

5.0 su 5 stelle Romance that builds up beautifully 11 marzo 2015

This is the first book I've read from beginning to end by this author and hopefully not my last. I hadn't been attracted to her fantasy/PNR books in the past, as the premise of them just didn't appeal to me, but when I saw she was writing a contemporary romance, decided to try this. So glad I did, this romance just about had it all and really shows what a smart writer Singh is - you get both the male and female POV, they both have troubles from their past to overcome, there is a sense of equality between them, his attraction to her is based on something real ("smart women are his catnip"), this is NOT a wham bam romance but one where they slowly and believably become more intimate. I think that's what really made me fall in love with the hero, how patient he is with the heroine in this regard - it really shows he loves her.

This review is coming from someone who usually avoids the subordinate/boss office romance. I dislike it when the woman is always made to be in the weaker position which is the usual in this type of set-up, but the way Singh has written this, you see how she empowers the heroine so that the relationship is a mutual rescue. I'd normally try to read the others in a series, but really not a fan of anything starring a male rock star/musician/actor type so here's hoping that Singh's next contemporary story features another type of hero - businessman, athlete, lawyer, military, professor, banker whatever, but please no one from the entertainment industry cuz I find the idea of a monogamous relationship with those guys really unbelievable.

5.0 su 5 stelle Who Can Resist T-Rex vs. Mouse? 10 marzo 2015

"Trust me, Ms. Baird?"
"Not when you smile like that."

THE STORY: Charlotte Baird has hidden herself in ill fitting clothes and a mousey personality. After a horrible incident in her past, Charlotte set about protecting herself in as many ways as possible. Her steady date for the past year is more interested in talking about his hobbies than getting physical with Charlotte and that is the way she likes it. When the failing company she works for hires a new CEO to turn around the company, Charlotte is intimidated by the large athletic strong man. She nicknames him T-Rex as he chews up the upper ranks of the company.

Gabriel Bishop is an ex-professional rugby player who has made a name for himself as a turnaround artist for failing companies. Gabriel is protective of the mouse he sees in Charlotte but it intrigued at the glimpses of the strong woman that he sometimes sees.

OPINION: I loved this book because of the strong, complex characters of Charlotte and Gabriel. Their relationship is incredibly beautiful and I really like that their relationship takes time to develop. I appreciated that the book allows the characters to acknowledge the dangers of office romances and especially boss/employee relationships. While those issues are quickly dismissed, the characters at least do acknowledge those issues.

Charlotte's story is incredibly sad and yet she has survived and managed to create a decent life for herself. I don't want to give away the exact nature of her past as information is disclosed to readers in the same way that Gabriel learns the truth. The scenes are powerful and heart wrenching.

Gabriel is my favorite part of this book. He is an alpha hero and yet is incredibly thoughtful, caring and protective. He is patient with Charlotte and places her peace of mind above his own desires. For sexy good guy heroes, he is one of the best.

Strong characters and relationships are a hallmark of Singh's books. Her characters, including those here, are complex multifaceted people. The relationship between these two people is adult and mature. Charlotte and Gabriel talk through their issues and relationship. They are also sexy and sensual. This book is about Charlotte embracing her own sexuality.

For fans of the Thea and David sexy and funny email exchanges from ROCK COURTSHIP (the series novella) will be pleased that there are similar exchanges of written correspondence in this book. While not as extensive or clever as in ROCK COURTSHIP, there are some sweet and funny moments between Charlotte and Gabriel that made me smile.

WORTH MENTIONING: The events of ROCK HARD take place at the same time as those in the first book in the series ROCK ADDICTION.

FINAL DECISION: I loved this book because of Charlotte and Gabriel. Their story made me smile and cry. They are fully realized complex characters. Gabriel especially is a wonderful alpha good guy hero who is sexy and patient and caring.

CONNECTED BOOKS: ROCK HARD is the second novel in the Rock Kiss series. It can be read as a standalone.

STAR RATING: I give ROCK HARD 4.5 stars.

NOTE: I received an ARC of this book from Netgalley in order to provide an honest review of the book. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions expressed are my own.

Rock Hard is book 2 in Nalini Singhs Rock Kiss series.

Gabriel Bishop knows exactly how to handle his business, his CEO status and boardroom. He's learnt enough over his stellar rugby career to know what he wants and always get it. What he wants now is Charlotte Baird.

Charlotte carries significant emotional scars and is so shy she could be totally ignored but that's exactly what she wants; to do her job and remain as invisible as possible. But her new CEO, threatens to totally turn her world, the office and perhaps the bedroom, upside down.

If Charlotte intends to survive this battle of wits and hearts, the mouse will have to learn to wrangle the T-Rex. Game on.

It was so good to comeback to this Rock world that Nalini has created. This time we are surrounded by rock Stars of the athlete kind when we meet ex rugby player and brilliant CEO Gabriel Bishop, poor painfully shy Charlotte Baird had no chance against him. The T-Rex vs Mouse story was so entertaining and heart felt at the same time. Nalini doesn't shy away from giving her characters an emotional and traumatic background, and this creates depth in those characters and makes for a much better read. I loved Gabriel's determination and stubbornness and I loved Charlottes quiet strength and I especially loved these 2 characters together! the banter between the 2 of them and how they played off of each other.

I can't wait to visit more of the Schoolboy Choir. Bring on the Rockers.

Rock Hard by Nalini Singh is the third book in the Rock Kiss series, counting the novella in between. I loved reading the previous two books by Nalini in this series and just could not wait for this one.

Starting with the cover, it is hot as usual and instantly creates an image of an alpha hero in our minds that are characteristic of Nalini Singh's romances. The blurb again is very interesting and peeked my interest enough to go further and checkout more about the book.

This is the story of Charlotte Baird whom we met first in Rock Addiction and her new Boss, Gabriel Bishop. Charlotte faced a traumatic past and as a result is painfully shy while Gabriel, a former pro rugby player now turned super wealthy and ruthless businessman has no shy bone in his body. Worlds apart and yet connected by their common chemistry towards each other, their love story is full of hurdles, fears and complexities.

Can Charlotte leave behind her fears and the trauma of her past to embrace the love she has in the present with Gabriel?
Will Gabriel and Charlotte ever have a happily-ever-after?

I just loved this book and think this one is the best one in this series so far. Passionate, heartfelt, emotional with an intense romance that filled me with warmth and a happy feeling, Nalini Singh succeeds in bringing to the readers a story that is like a fairy tale but still so real that it feels right at home in the present world.

The plot is crisply executed with the former book, Rock Addiction's characters and story beautifully merged to sync with this one. I loved Molly and Charlotte's friendly teasing and enjoyed experiencing their true friendship. Charlotte's and Gabriel's romance is truly a hide and seek match between a mouse and a T-Rex and very entertaining. It was fun to watch them butt heads and then make up to each other through simple gestures like sweet bakery products!

Gabriel won my heart with his patience, understanding and love towards Charlotte and how he so carefully and lovingly scraped away each and every one of her insecurities and fears and managed to make her happy again. His every action had me sighing and feeling myself go all starry eyed over him. This is one character I would love to meet in real life. Even his growling, cranky and angry moments were cute and when I saw him with Charlotte and his family, I knew I was a goner.

The author pleasantly surprised and awed me with her novel approach of using 'Memos' to propose love in Rock Courtship and here she uses email, hand written notes and in general things we never saw fitting a romance theme in a romantic story!

Her writing style is witty, hilarious and just as fluidly emotional and heart-shattering poignant. The story moves at a moderate pace and had me enjoying each and every word in it. The scenes and places are vividly described and I think I am slowly falling in love with New Zealand with each of her descriptions of the places there! I have already read this book twice and know this is one book I can read any number of times and still find it enjoyable!

This is the best slow building romance I have read in a long long time and I just loved it!

All in all, Rock Hard by Nalini Singh is a must read book for all adult readers of romance. This book has sex scenes and so should be read by readers above eighteen years of age.

Super shiny 5 stars to it and I can't wait to read the next book in this series. Nalini Singh is a very talented author and one whose books I really like.
