The Thrill of Romantic Suspense Meets the Romance of 1800s America

Lured by a handful of scribbled words across a faded letter, Cara Hamilton sets off from 1896 Ireland on a quest to find the brother she'd thought dead. Her search lands her in America, amidst a houseful of strangers and one man who claims to be a friend--Rourke Walsh.

Despite her brother's warning, Cara decides to trust Rourke and reveals the truth about her purpose in America. But he is not who he claims to be, and as rumors begin to circulate about an underground group of dangerous revolutionaries, Cara's desperation grows. Her questions lead her ever closer to her brother, but they also bring her closer to destruction as Rourke's true intentions come to light.

4.0 su 5 stelle A Gripping Thriller 21 maggio 2014
Di Holly - Pubblicato su

A gripping thriller that kept my interest since day one. The tale of Cara is one of intense feelings. Hurt, anger, hope, love, lost, and redemption are what she feels on a daily basis. She has been alone in Ireland for two years since her parents have died and her brother disappeared. Til one day in 1897 she receives a letter from her brother. The letter states that is she to come to America and wait for him but not to tell anyone why she has come, and to trust no one. Cara ends up meeting an older gentleman on the boat from Ireland to America and he sets her up at a boarding house that is ran by his friend. From there, while waiting for her brother to come Cara throws herself into her life as an American. Finding a job, enjoying friendships with the other ladies at the boarding house, and even falling in love. Yet can she trust the man she falls for? Or is he using her to find her brother? Read the book to find out what happens in the end! Also, the second book to the series comes out some time this year. Enjoy!

This is the first book in a series. Cara leaves Ireland to find her brother because of some letters. Cara believed her brother was dead, but she can't stand to not find out for sure. Coming from a shunned background in this time frame, she is rather lost in the Americas. Rourke Walsh says he is a friend, but is he really? Is he worthy of her trust or a major mistake?

This book does pick up if you push through the slow parts! Forgiveness is a prominent theme. Overall a reasonable read with a probably plot outcome, I just don't understand why it felt so slow for so long!

My Copy came from Bethany House. I received this book for free. A favorable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.

4.0 su 5 stelle A Wonderful Read 3 febbraio 2017

No Safe Harbor is an excellent read that had me constantly turning the pages! The dialogue was engaging, the characters relatable and realistic, and the ending perfect for making readers want to read the next book while satisfying the criteria for a perfect story's ending. You'll fall in love with the main characters as they go through some of life's toughest struggles while falling in love with each other. This really is a good book, and I'm somewhat a picky person when it comes to what books I read.

4.0 su 5 stelle The entire plot gets ignored until the end, and then drops off so you have to buy the sequel 11 luglio 2015

This book was a good read- until the ending. I'm not a fan of books that don't try to wrap up the story and leave a lot of questions- just to sell a sequel. The ENTIRE plot of the book lead up to a point which you would think would be the climax, but instead it abruptly ends and you are left feeling confused (especially when the actions/emotions involved seem to be out of character).
This book left me feeling like the entire plot was a waste, or a side-story.

Cara's brother, Eoghan (pronounced Ew-an), warned her that she should not talk to anybody on her way to America or after she got there. Yet, she did. She didn't tell everything, but she told enough to make people suspicious. It turns out that her brother had been involved in the killing of a member of the British Parliament. There's a lot more to the story, but that but she told enough to make people suspicious. It turns out that her brother had been involved in the killing of a member of the British Parliament. There's a lot more to the story, but that would be telling too much. Cara is trying to find her brother while he is trying to avoid the people who think she is his sister. She even falls in love with a man who is planning revenge against her brother. But, this is a case of the Lord working in mysterious ways.
It's a very good pack book, and I'm sure I will read more books by this author.
