Owen McGarry’s plan to isolate himself on planet Jekh in hopes of escaping survivor’s guilt about his identical twin’s death drastically backfires when the newest inhabitant of his sister’s farm proves she can’t be trusted with independence.

Raised in an alien lab and designed to be a “better” Jekhan hybrid, lonely Ais is actually nearly blind and can barely communicate. While her hostesses bend over backward to make Ais feel welcome, their brother Owen treats her like a petulant child who lacks common sense. After enduring a quarter century of experimentation on a cold Tyneali space station, Ais wants to feel useful and wanted, but Owen thinks what she needs is to be locked away for her own good.

Lust and affection bloom in close quarters when gutsy Ais shows she’s more than a problem for Owen to solve. His gruffness doesn’t deter her. She soothes his wounded spirit and can actually put a smile on his face, but love on Jekh is never simple. Ais is being hunted by three entities with competing agendas, and they won’t stop until they have her.

Owen didn’t move to Jekh to play hero, but if he doesn’t want to see true love slip away, he’ll have to quickly learn to be one.

1.0 su 5 stelle Manipulative controlling jerk, not a hero 22 dicembre 2016

While I've enjoyed the books to date, this one was pretty rough. The hero was no hero at all and the author continually excused his horrible behavior to the heroine as protective and guilt from his twin brother's death. Owen took a sweet girl who had a tramatic life, locked up from birth and raped many times over and then he locked her up, a grown woman supposedly for her own good. Hated this story line. I love a good alpha male but he has to have the best interests of his partner at heart and this was so not the case. Each book by Trent has evolved to more and more manipulative, controlling heroes. This was wrong all around and my last book from this author. Sad, because in the beginning this world had such potential.

This story has suspense and recovery.. Owen has issues with Ais, . being in situations that cause injuries. Owen and Ais began a carousel. A few of the stolen women were reunited with their family. We revisit with Owen sisters. Introduce to new characters and family members for future consideration. On to the next book.
5.0 su 5 stelle Great scifi and tasteful menage romance 27 dicembre 2016

This was one of the best books I read all year. I love Sci Fi but I am very picky about these books because so many authors don't realize how hard it is to write sci fi and make all kinds of ridiculous premises that don't make any sense. This is not the case here. This book has all the makings of some of the best sci fi suspense novels with a romance added in. Granted, I did not see a romance blossoming between these two at first. Owen is very controlling although he locks Ais up at first because he is worried she will get herself killed with her bad vision and her lack of English skills makes her appear to be unintelligent. However, he stops locking her up after a few days and while she could leave, she chooses not to. The scenes between Owen, Ais and Owen's childhood best friend are some of the hottest I have ever read. On top that, there is a suspenseful backstory of the Jekhan people trying to take back their world from humans and their alien creators, the Tyneali also seem to be at war with each other. There are so many different smaller plots going on that there are no dull moments in this story. The word building here is incredibly done. It is no simple task to create 2 entirely different cultures and a different planet but this author does both of those very well.

If you are truly a lover of scifi and don't mind a tastefully written and culturally acceptable menage romance, this is definitely the story for you. This was the first book I read in this series and although it is book 3, I understood it fully but I will be going back to buy books 1 and 2. Highly enjoyable.
5.0 su 5 stelle Owen and Ais 22 dicembre 2016

This book is a great addition to the Jekh Saga sci fi romance series. It features Owen McGarry, the socially inept, loner brother of Courtney and Erin (books one and two) and grandson of the infamous Ewin McGarry. Owen followed his sisters to the planet Jekh where he helps out on their remote farm by maintaining their technology and comms. As the book opens, he has spent the past three hours searching for a near blind Jekhan female who has taken refuge on the farm but has gone missing during a walk. Owen finds her ensnared in briars where she fell from a trail while picking berries. He frees her, then decides to keep her captive in his cabin for her own safety and for the sake of his own time spent protecting her. But Ais was raised in a lab by the Tyneali, then stolen and held captive by a pirate before being rescued by the McGarrys. She may be programmed to be submissive, but she is very capable of taking care of herself. After being held prisoner and badly used by Reg Devin, she only wants to be free. Then she glimpses a Tynealian peering in the window of Owen's cabin. She knows the Tyneali want her back. Badly. But unknown to her, so does Reg and his employer. And they will do anything to take her. So, just as Owen is realizing how badly he has messed up by confining Ais, the ones searching for her are closing in. This voluntary review is of an advance copy and is my honest opinion.

I received an ARC for this book and voluntarily left a review. I haven't had the chance to read her other two books in this series, but I will now look for them. Owen McGarry is Terran and has run to the planet Jekh to escape the guilt and loss for not being there for his twin brother when he died. Unfortunately for him, there he ends up living close to his two sisters as well as their ward, Ais, who had been bred as a hybrid and kept isolated for experimentation on a Tyneali space station for 25 years. He cannot help but feel unwanted attraction for this creature who can barely see or communicate in their language. A visit from his childhood friends is the beginning of much change for him and those close to him, jostling them all into action, and they realize Ais may be key to it all.
