I love Samsung products. We own quite a few (phones/tablets) and decided to get these tablets for our 2y/o twins for Christmas.
First impressions - We purchased and received 2 of the tablets with the pen-case with the handle (blue/yellow). Both boxes seals were CUT INTO (not loss of sticky-ness). I was wary that the products were not new as I had naturally assumed. I contacted Amazon Customer Care immediately and they reassured me that they were in fact new, and then issued me a 10% credit on the products. I was happy with that resolution.
Once I opened the packages myself everything seemed to be in new condition down to all the plastic protective stickers on the tablet.
I love that this tablet has an interface just for kids. This is the MAIN reason I purchased these. While I could get a Nabi or similar, I wanted something that I could also use and something with a faster response time and more overall functionality (google-play store etc).
I have not had any connectivity issues that weren't due to my own home network.
As one reviewer mentioned, I have had an app running in the background with music that would play over everything (even when the power button was hit to OFF) unless the app was closed out of properly while in kids mode. This meant the child had to know how to back out of the app completely or navigate to exiting it instead of just pushing the white Home key on the tablet itself. I found this to be an issue directly related to the app and have removed it from the Kids interface.
I have noticed that some apps still bring me to the playstore b/c they have in-app purchases allowed (though nothing can be purchased without my password), and that gets to be annoying b/c my kids haven't figured out how to back out of those screens. I would LOVE it if the interface just blocked any ability to go to the play store.
On that note, my twins are 2 and this being their first tablets, they were able to easily navigate the kids interface on their own.
The preloaded apps seem great but most are too old for my kids right now. We mainly use the Toca Boca apps and have loaded on a bunch of our own.
Since receiving these we have had to institute TABLET TIME to limit the amt of playing/learning they do b/c they LOVE them so much.

Oh, and a review on the pen/case -- Get it, it's worth it. The ability to use the handle and maneuver it into a 2 position stand is pretty darn smart. I want a case for my tablet like this now! It is not too bulky either. We hung up some of those Command Strip hooks and my kids hang their tablets on the side of our bookshelf. My only complaint about the case is that there is no stand position in portrait mode.

This tablet was a great idea. I have seen various other tablet companies make tablets with some kind of restriction but not with both a kids mode and a normal mode. I bought this tablet for Christmas of 2013 and my daughter absolutely fell in love. I am sad to say that Amazon didn't do a clear job of offering insurance, though that could just very well be my lack of attention, and since my 3 year old decided it was time her tablet took a bath I am going to have to buy the tablet again. This time it will be through Best Buy since they have a clear insurance policy where if anything happens to it I can bring it back for a new one. This tab was so good for my daughter that she was able to learn with all of the kids games, as well as have some movies added to her memory AND have Netflix along for the ride. I would recommend this tablet over an IPad but would like to see Samsung develop a kids tab with more memory capacity so as to store much more movies and such.

Hit and Miss with a Preschooler

My four year old thinks this is his iPad, he kind of loves it. But not on kids mode. I wish I would have gotten the standard Samsung Galaxy 3. It would have cost less and he would like it more.

However he LOVES the Toy Story game that came on it, and we purchased a bunch of games. We also put netflix on it, because he loves educational shows like Super Why and various others. I love the timers, but they only work on kids mode, and he rarely will even TOUCH it when it's on kids mode.

I, personally, thought this was going to be a HUGE hit, but he plays with his Leapster more than this. Everyone has their own tablets in the house, so I haven't investigated it too much. But so far the battery lasts a while, the screen looks great, very bright. I gave it 4 starts instead of 5 because of my son's opinion.
