The Song Sequencer provides 16 tracks plus one system track that supports recording of up to five songs and a total of approximately 12,000 notes. Each individual musical instrument part can be recorded to a different track for real multi-track recording capabilities. A full selection of editing tools include event insert, event delete, event copy, quantize, a locator feature for selecting the range of notes to be edited, and more. A step recording function also lets you input notes by specifying the length and pitch. Completed recordings can be converted to SMF (Standard MIDI File) format and stored to an SD memory card.
Button operation can be used for individual simultaneous adjustment of volume, pan, reverb send, and other parameters.
Rhythm Editor lets you combine instrument parts from multiple built-in rhythms, turn individual instrument parts on or off, and adjust volume, pan, reverb, and other parameters to create your own original rhythms. You can even create original rhythms for NORMAL, FILL IN, INTRO, and ENDING accompaniment patterns. You can store up to 10 original rhythms in memory for instant recall whenever you need them.

I asked around a lot to finally decide what to buy, since I was a rookie myself. A bunch of my musician friends told me that I couldn't go wrong with this one. And man they were right!
The item arrived on time and nicely packed. So if you've already purchased a stand, you're good to go! It's a little smaller than the 88 models but has a lot of rhythms and tones. The item comes with a beginner book which contains a bunch of song sheets some might find helpful (especially since sheet music is mostly not free!). But the collection of rhythms (150 of them) and tones (400 different ones) is the real deal! If you use your creativity, you could really get something out of this keyboard.
I knew nothing about pianos when I bought this instrument (about 4 months ago). It is really great for beginners. The keys are not like the ones on the cheap keyboards (empty underneath), and you could really get a good sound out of them by pressing hard, or play a soft, smooth tune. Also, it's quite loud when the volume is full!
Other perks include a USB outlet, which means you can connect the piano to your ipod or pc, great sampling system, and a song bank. For the 4 months I've used this instrument, I've really been happy with it. So if you're looking for something light weight and/or if you're a beginner like me, this is the piano for you!

48 Note Polyphony (so you don't have to worry about dropping notes)
110 Built-in Songs
What makes this keyboard go a step further is the USB MIDI connection which allows you to hook this digital piano up to a Mac or Windows computer. If you have an iPad you can use that as well! We haven't tried hooking this up to the computer yet but it is a feature that I like that is there for when I'm ready.
What my kids really love is all the songs that are included (110 built-in to be exact.) They just push a button and the song plays. To help them learn, there is even the Step Up Lesson system which shows players which keys to push.
I will say the first thing you should do, after you play around with it for awhile, is read the instructions. This keyboard can really do a lot that without reading the instructions you will miss out on some great features. I feel like everytime I sit down with it I figure out something new on it!
My kids love the microphone part of this keyboard where they can say something and have their voice be changed into silly tones. The buttons can be overwhelming and intimidating but with practice it gets easier. Like I said though this is a great keyboard to start with and grow on. My boys have never shown interest in music before and lately they have been trying to play songs on this. I love that it is teaching them an appreciation for music, even though it is not really organized right now. It is great though because it teaches songs as simple as "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" and far more complex songs. The piano can be slowed down and it can show what notes to play.
The keyboard runs on AC power, which is included, or you could add batteries. I honestly like the battery choice because we seem to keep tripping over the cord. I think too we will add a keyboard stand and set this up properly. I honestly think this keyboard is going to last us as long as we need it to.
Key action is good, and there are 3 levels of touch sensitivity - actually 2 levels plus Off. My only complaint at this time is the music stand. Being nothing but a formed rod and completely empty inside as well as not having a "catch" or platform to restrain the bottom, you cannot lay a single sheet of music on it without it falling through or off. Easily correctable, but Casio should have caught this in the design. All they needed to do were to add a couple of internal cross members and change the plastic "pitch" on the keyboard where the music sheet rests. All in all, however, this CTK-3500 is worth the money and I expect to be having a lot of fun with it over the years. If you are looking for a electronic keyboard <$200, this is definitely one to consider.
