Sinossi

Elizabeth Gallagher has been balancing on the ragged edge for a while now. Then a rough case on the boards of her 911 operator’s job collides with a family conflict at home, and Elizabeth finds herself finally coming apart at the seams. A four-state road trip—trapped in a car with her mother—is the last thing she needs. Their destination may be beautiful Hatteras Island, but the reason for going is anything by pleasant. After one disastrous hurricane, and with a second one working its way up the coast, it’s time to convince Aunt Sandy to abandon her little seaside store on North Carolina’s Outer Banks and return to the family fold in Michigan. But when the storm sweeps through, the three women will discover that sisterhood and the sea can change hearts, lives, and futures . . . often in the most unpredictable of ways.

5.0 su 5 stelle GREAT BEGINNING TO A WONDERFUL SERIES 10 marzo 2015

Elizabeth Gallagher is a 911 operator. On one shift she takes a call that rattles to the very core being. She is also a wife, mother and very deep into family matters. When her family really start butting heads, the need to deal with these family matters come to a head. Before things can come boil over, Elizabeth and her mother take a journey to Hatteras Island. This is where Elizabeth's Aunt Sandy lives with her husband George and owns a beachfront shop. This is clearly no vacation.

In The Sea Glass Sisters, Lisa Wingate deals with the issues of reconciliation and hope. We follow the struggles and the victories of the characters.

This book is a prequel to "The Prayer Box". I started this series by reading the 2nd and then 3rd books of this series. That being said, it made this book seem more like a "six-degrees" of separation book as the only link to the other books is Sandy, the seashell shop owner and her sister Sharon with a slight mention of Iola Ann Poole. However this book is also a very heartwarming story. I would suggest reading the series in the order it is written to get the full enjoyment of the saga.

2.0 su 5 stelle Skip the prelude; in fact, skip the whole series... 14 agosto 2016

When I finished the book (short story, maybe?), I felt like much of the conflict has not only not been resolved, it is never dealt with. What about the husband? Is he having an affair or just working late? What about the conflict between the kids? The sisters? So I re-read the blurb on the product page and found out that this is a prelude to a series. What? A prelude? It isn't enough that authors are writing parts of books and selling them as complete novels to entice readers to keep buying a series that never should have been. Now we have sliced the book into even smaller bits, beginning with a prelude. NOT FOR ME!! I'm heading back to the classics where authors knew that a novel is an entire story and a sentence is a complete thought. I'd avoid this one if you are at all interested in literature.

I absolutely love Lisa Wingate’s novels! I started with Tending Roses and have read and enjoyed each and every one of her books.

I enjoy Lisa’s writing style, character development, unique story lines and the fact that there is always personal growth, reconciliation and redemption in her novels. Lisa always finds an interesting premise, location or historical reference that leads me to do further research on the topic presented. I also like that her books are written in series which gives me an opportunity to get to know the characters better as the story lines develop and to see how they are progressing or what they are up to once they aren’t the focal point of the current story.

While I don’t always like the personalities of the characters (I’m sure that’s Lisa’s intent) at the onset, I do grow to love them and understand and appreciate their individual challenges and personalities as the story unfolds. I have sometimes felt uncomfortable as I was being taught lessons I needed to learn about how others might be challenged or struggling in their lives and the scenarios are realistic enough that you can certainly apply them to real life situations. At the end of the book, I am always loath to leave them and feel as if they are real people that I’ve grown to know and care about.

I have been inspired by Lisa’s wisdom, challenged to become a better person, laughed, cried and fallen in love with the people and localities she writes about.

I feel I am a better person for having read these books and always appreciate the measure of grace she brings to her writing. Each book leaves a great impression on me and my heart is full for a long time after the last page is turned.

It is important to me that Lisa somehow manages to do all of this without feeling the need to use graphic language or sex scenes as I do not find that these add anything to a story.

Don’t think that her books aren’t entertaining! Lisa adds wit to go along with the wisdom! There is always a little bit of romance, too!

I hope you will take the time to pick up one of Lisa’s books. You won’t be disappointed.

5.0 su 5 stelle lovely short story 2 agosto 2016

The author Lisa Wingate writes beautifully descriptive sentences which gave my mind time to drift into memories waiting to be reexamined. At the beginning this one stood out: “Pride is like a steamroller. It’ll clear the path for a while, but sooner or later it’ll shift into reverse, and then …look out.”

In the Novella The Sea Glass Sisters, Elizabeth Gallagher’s world is about to be steamrolled. Her children are growing up and ready to take flight. Her husband is spending more time away. Her uncle Butch is on the warpath, because his sister Sandy wants to sell her property and it sits on the family’s land where they live. Sandy and husband George moved years before to Hatteras Island, N C and run a cute but failing gift store. Then when Elizabeth’s mother shows up ranting about going to see Sandy and talk some sense into her; Elizabeth doesn’t want to be involved, she has other pressing problems; one was caused when a distraught woman called 911, at the dispatch center where Elizabeth works, and was crying saying her little girl was taken. Elizabeth desperately wants to find the missing child and has been searching for her everywhere. Soon, Elizabeth realizes she has to go with her mom to see Sandy and they drive right into the heart of a storm one that is affecting her family and the Island.

I haven’t read the Prayer Box yet, so I’m glad that this was offered on my Kindle. I loved the story and look forward to reading more. 5 stars.

I normally hate, hate, hate Christian fiction. I hate how preachy it is, how unrealistic, how fake it feels. This book is NOTHING like that.

This series completely intrigued me. This novella (just slightly shorter than a full novel) made me want to read the rest of the series. I even recommended it to a friend. That is a HIGH honor. I recommend maybe 1 in 100 books I read.

If you enjoy faith-based, clean, emotional stories with good plots without being preached at, you will like this book. It was generally well-written and I really loved getting to know the characters. I will be seeking out more in this series for sure.
