This short read is obviously written by a person who is well-versed in training their own dogs and so there is little doubt that the advice they give has actually worked in some circumstances. However, the advice lacks a depth that would make it more useful to a variety of people. For example, it does not even mention the fact that different breeds have different characteristics, needs and likes. This is a fundamental flaw as different breeds tend to share common characteristics that set them aside as a breed - although, to her credit, the author does say that every dog is different but she does not even begin to broach the natural corollary to that statement.
Also, the author gives only one basic method of training. Although this may work in the vast majority of cases, I would expect a really good dog training to evaluate each individual dog's circumstances and behavior and then be able to adjust the training method as appropriate. For example, I fail to see how the training method mentioned can effectively be used to address separation anxiety - perhaps it can but, since this book lacks depth of explanation, I would be left floundering if I attempted to implement it for this problem.
Since there is only one basic training method mentioned in this book, the author repeats it over and over, not even varying the terminology used that much. Repeating an action to reinforce desired behavior in a dog may be appropriate, but I am not a dog so please don't attempt to reinforce your message to me by incessant repetition...
Perhaps I am expecting too much from a modestly priced Kindle book, but having been exposed to Cesar Millan's techniques and wisdom, I guess I set the bar I judge by high.
In conclusion, this short book is a average introduction to dog training, but it is just that: A brief introduction. Readers will need to look elsewhere to fully understand their dog's behavior and learn how to best mold it as desired.
