5.0 su 5 stelle A thoughtful yet delectable beach read. 18 maggio 2017

This is the perfect beach book. I look forward to Nancy Thayer's novels every year as a rite of summer - get out the chaise long, the lemonade, the sunscreen and drift away into the lives of people who live in the gorgeous little New England island of Nantucket. Scene setting so real you can almost taste the clam chowder.

While written breezily, the characters are finely drawn, and pull on the heartstrings. There are inherent truths here, about love and life which launch this book to another level above the usual summer page-turners. I particularly related to the the bookish and introspective Darcy who tries to navigate some tricky romantic turf. Get out the SPF 15. Sumer is here.

4.0 su 5 stelle A Light, Enjoyable, Summer Romance 9 aprile 2017

I have been a long-time reader of Nancy Thayer's books and this one fits nicely with her style of light, enjoyable summer reading material. There is nothing very complex or thought-provoking about the characters or their relationships, yet the novel is entertaining in its exploration of friendship and romance.

Darcy Cotterill, the protagonist, is a year-round resident on Nantucket island. She lives in her beautiful childhood home which she inherited from her grandmother - the only person who provided any stability and love in her life. As in many of Thayer's novels, Nantucket is both a backdrop as well as significant "character" in the story. The storyline begins with the advent of the annual influx of vacationers and revolves around Darcy's relationships with the three families who rented adjacent properties for the summer, as well as a budding, but confusing, romance with a local carpenter. Darcy is likeable and I particularly enjoyed the multi-generational group that spontaneously evolves between the octogenarian, the teenager and the two young adult women.

If you enjoy quick, light, romantic books set in an interesting locale, then I believe you will like this book.

4.0 su 5 stelle Easy, breezy beach read! 6 aprile 2017

Nothing quite says summer like the release of a new Nancy Thayer novel. This novel is about Darcy Cotterill, a librarian divorcee who calls Nantucket home. Darcy lives a quiet life on the island until her ex-husband and family move into the vacation home next door. The summer brings many twists and turns for Darcy, as she tries to navigate new loves and old flames and new friends who will leave at the end of the summer. Though the plot is somewhat predictable, this is still an enjoyable story. Secrets in Summer is a fun and easy read that's perfect for a weekend afternoon in the sun. The star of the novel is the island of Nantucket, as is the case in most of Thayer's novel, and this is part of the charm. If you are looking for prize-winning writing, then choose another book. But, if you like an entertaining book to help you relax on a lazy day, then this is a wonderful choice.

4.0 su 5 stelle Super summer read...not to be missed! 17 maggio 2017
Di Corrie Hanson - Pubblicato su
Formato: Formato Kindle
What a fun summer read this is!  Some of my favorite books are beach reads that pull you in and immerse you into the story.  That is exactly what Nancy Thayer did with Secrets in Summer.

Darcy Cotterill is a local girl on the island of Nantucket.  She is living her dream, that of being a librarian.  It has been her dream since she was a little girl.  It's because of her hard work and dedication to her dream that she has been able to achieve it...even through some of life's hardest challenges.

Summers on Nantucket bring lots of tourists and summer people.  It's always exciting to meet the new people and what they will bring to the island.

Darcy quickly befriends Mimi, the aged grandmother here for her last hurrah, Susan, the exhausted mother of three active boys and Willow...the step-daughter of her ex-husband.

Navigating having her ex-husband and his new family next door for the entire summer will be a challenge. As secrets are revealed for the group, only time will tell if their relationships will survive the truth.

If you are looking for a beach read that will prep you for summertime, this is the book for you.  The characters in Secrets of Summer are fantastic and so developed you would think they were actually real people.  They were definitely my people!

This book drew me in from the very beginning and I couldn't wait to get back to it when I had to put it down.  It's a fairly quick took me two days or approximately 6 hours.  Everything was perfectly descriptive and I was easily swept in to the gardens and time at the beach as if I was actually there.

Lamplight Review and Promotion is giving Secrets of Summer 4 stars and we can't wait to see what Miss Nancy Thayer has up next!

4.0 su 5 stelle Enjoyable with lots of lessons... 19 maggio 2017
Di Cynthia K. Robertson - Pubblicato su
Formato: Copertina rigida Recensione Vine di un prodotto gratuito ( Cos'è? )
I read several novels by Nancy Thayer last year, and I thought they were rather silly. When I had an opportunity to order Secrets in Summer through Amazon Vine, I thought that I would give her another try. We are getting ready for a summer beach vacation, so it seemed appropriate. I was pleased that Secrets in Summer has more depth in both plot and character development and was an enjoyable read.

Darcy Cotterill is 30, divorced, and lives in a house in Nantucket that her grandmother willed to her. She happens to be a children’s librarian at the Nantucket Atheneum. She normally makes it a point to not interact with the summer renters, but she quickly finds herself drawn to neighbors in three adjacent houses. On one side of her is 89-year old Mimi, who is a stitch and willing to try anything. She is accompanied by her musicologist grandson, Clive. One the other side is Susan Brueckner, with her husband and three out-of-control young sons. And behind Darcy is her ex-husband Boyz, with his new wife and 14-year old step-daughter, Willow. Darcy, Mimi, Susan and Willow become a foursome for the summer, sharing fun, secrets, and also, helping each other through problems. But nobody can help Darcy decide what to do about her love life. She has got to make that decision on her own.

I was surprised at how many lessons there are to be learned in Secrets in Summer. Things like opening yourself up to love also opens yourself up to hurt. Or that friends who only spend a short time in your life can still have a profound impact on you. Or that each marriage has its own set of rules.

There is really a lot to enjoy and chew on with Nancy Thayer’s new novel, and I am glad that I didn’t give up on her.
