Long and long and long
il 16 marzo 2017
** spoiler alert ** Easily one of the most difficult book I found to finish...I usually do not stop reading a book, but with this one I had many times the temptation to do so.
And the reason is not the length; or, at least, it is not the main one, although, together with all the rest, it was part of the painful process to complete the reading.
First of all, the scale of the book: you go from normal time lapse and descriptions to microdescriptions of how to approach a comet, and then, suddenly, 5,000 years pass.
Second, writing a book on how females are good and men are bad does not work so well if you are not Marion Zimmer Bradley or Ursula K. Le Guin.
Third, I do not think that in 5,000 years there is sufficient time to develop physical changes such as the ones the Pingers show.
And finally, what's the deal with the book anyway? No proper characterization, no interesting story, some really detailed things and then you cannot understand how people survive for 5,000 years in space or underground or under the sea...
