Rampant, viscid horror; something of a cross between Day of the Triffids and the Invasion of the Bodysnatchers - this is stomach-turning, creepy, vile Horror at its best.

Six years on from a terrible experience, Alan Tyler is all that stands between the salvation of Holburn and the madness that descends suddenly when The Tramp begins to spread corrupted power through the townsfolk.

Alan's brother Damien is the conduit of the good remaining in the town, and must battle against the green tide of mayhem and demonic beasts it makes of ordinary people. Armed with his sanity, slowly fading, and the unlikely help of a relative and his old friend (who hide a dark secret), and his girlfriend (who may already be one of them), Damien must battle Ernest (who knows lots of dark secrets) and the horde of invading creatures - determined to suck the life out of Holburn.

Fast and gripping, the tension doesn't let up, even at the end (which did seema touch forgotten), when all the pieces fall into place and you wonder how on earth the invaders can ever be pushed back.

A new and exciting talent, Ian delivers authentic, blood-curdling horror, unashamedly admixing Sci-fi and Dark Fiction into the pot.

Ian Woodhead is an author better known for his short stories, short scary shots of horror. 'Shades of Green' is a much bigger shot! This novel is an absolute must for any horror reader. I'll admit it's very different to anything I've read, but echoes of King & Lovecraft come through strong.
This well-written tale encompasses horror, revulsion, evil shrubbery (yes,you read it right!), people & pets turned monsters &, thankfully, survivours. We are thrown head-first into the town of Holburn, or rather the ancient woods of Holburn &, mouth-agape, delve into the secrets they hold.
No spoilers in this review because this work needs to be read with a fresh, open mind.....one that's ready to be shocked & left terrified & slighty grossed-out!
So take a wander through 'Shades of Green' & discover a whole new perspective on greenery....I promise you won't be dissappointed!

Having previously read (and been disappointed with) 'Spores' I have to say I enjoyed this book by Ian Woodhead so much more.

The story itself flows really well & is very descriptive which is enough to keep the reader interested with a few humorous thoughts & comments by the characters along the way.

Quite an original tale as most horror genre these days seem to be along the same lines where as this is an alien invasion with a difference.

Well worth a read if you like your stories to have a lot of gore..

Shades of Green by Ian Woodhead

Shades of Green was a lovely surprise. As I was reading, I was never sure where the story was going, and loved it! Predictable is so boring. The town of Holburn has a dark secret, one that began many years ago, and has now been reborn. Damien Tyler has been having some very odd, and terrifying dreams; and then his brother, Alan, tells him the monsters are coming. These dreams seep into Damien’s waking life. And there are weird goings on at the petshop. There’s a transformation happening, and where that leaves the town, and the two brothers…well, you’ll just have to find out. Ian Woodhead’s unraveling of this horrific mystery is superb, and the characters are very believable. This is horror at its’ best.
I was given this story for an honest review.
