Sinossi

Three Novellas from Bestselling Authors

In Dee Henderson's "Missing," a Wyoming sheriff is called to Chicago when his elderly mother goes missing. Paired with a savvy Chicago cop, the two realize her disappearance is no accident, and a race against the clock begins.

Dani Pettrey returns to Alaska with "Shadowed," introducing readers to the parents of her beloved McKenna clan. Adventure, romance, and danger collide when a young fisherman nets the body of an open-water swimming competitor who may actually be a possible Russian defector.

Lynette Eason's "Blackout" delivers the story of a woman once implicated in a robbery gone wrong. The loot has never been found--but her memory of that night has always been unreliable. Can she remember enough to find her way to safety when the true culprit comes after her?

5.0 su 5 stelle engaging stories bygreat writers! 18 giugno 2016

There are three stories each one written by an author listed above: Missing (Dee Henderson), Shadowed (Dani Pettrey), and Blackout (Lynette Eason). The stories are not tied together and be prepared for them to each totally engage you the moment reading them begins! In Missing a former Chicago police Officer returns from to help locate his mother who has been missing for hours without a clue! In Shadowed Libby is in Alaska for a competition swim when she meets Ben McKenna while on a whale sighting tour. However, not only do they sight whales but a body too and Libby knows the person! Finally in Blackout a woman who in her earlier life ran away to meet a boyfriend only to somehow become entangled in a murder and theft. The hard part is she has no memory of that fatal night and her life depends on remembering!
Each of the stories was worth the wait for me though it was hard as I anticipated each author’s story telling ability to keep me turning pages till I finished the book! If you like suspense and surprise endings or thrills while figuring out how the culprit will be discovered then this collection is for you! The action, adventure and faith woven throughout the tales are exciting to say the least! You won’t soon forget the fun you had reading the book and I know I will eventually be rereading them sometime down through the years! I will also be sharing the book with friends or family who want to read good books, perhaps you will too!

My thoughts:

First up is Missing by Dee Henderson

This is the first novella in the collection and while I know I was reading a rough advanced reader’s copy, I have to admit that I was rather disappointed in this story.

The story started right in the middle of the action, which is great, and the plot had a lot of promise. As soon as they started talking about suspects, I knew who had done it, so spending the rest of the novella shaking my head at two seasoned cops who couldn’t figure it out made me less intrigued. However, if the characters were three-dimensional, this wouldn’t have been an issue at all.

The characters kept referring to one another by name, sometimes multiple times in a conversation. I do hope that will be taken care of before it goes to final print, but it was rather distracting—not something that happens in a real conversation.

However, I was more disappointed in the quality of the characters. They felt flat—almost monotonous—and the romance truly felt forced. I didn’t feel any sparks between the two, so when John, the hero, asked Sharon, the heroine, about the pull between the two of them, I was caught off guard. It was abrupt, in my opinion.

I’m normally a Dee Henderson fan and truly don’t like giving a negative review, but this is not a novella I’d read again. However, there may be editorial changes made before the book comes out, so don’t not read this one based on my review.

Next is Shadowed by Dani Pettrey.

Oh, it was so good to read a prequel to Dani’s Alaskan Courage series! To read how the siblings’ parents (Ben and Libby) met and how their relationship developed. It was like coming home.

Dani didn’t disappoint with regards to her writing style. The tension, the sparks, the suspense…it’s all there in spades. A truly great, fun novella!!
Finally, there’s Blackout by Lynette Eason.

Lynette never fails to disappoint me, I have to admit. This is a fast-paced, very suspenseful story. Macey and Chad are a great team, and there’s a lot of action packed into a short novella! Sometimes the pacing is a little too fast, but considering the shortness of this story, it’s completely understandable. Overall, a great read by one of my favorite romantic suspense authors!

While I wouldn’t necessarily recommend Dee Henderson’s novella, I do recommend Dani Pettrey’s and Lynette Eason’s!

*Note: I received this book via NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review. All thoughts are my own.

I've been waiting a long time for this one. I mean really? Three of my most favorite authors in the world all in one neatly wrapped package? We have Dee Henderson, Dani Pettrey, and Lynette Eason in that order. They were all wonderful in different ways, and I'm glad they combined them in one book since they were so short. I know each author worked very hard on their story but normally I don't bother purchasing novellas due to the length.
In "Missing," Dee Henderson tells the story of a police chief's elderly mother who goes missing and they have a great team of people working around the clock to find her before it's too late.
In "Shadowed," Dani Pettrey treats us to a prequel to the Alaskan Courage series with Ben and Libby, and was probably my favorite of the three.
In "Blackout," Lynette Eason writes with her trademark heart pounding suspense and never ending action...everything happened much faster than usual, but this was a given due to the length of the story.
Overall I loved this book and would recommend it to anyone who loves an inspirational feel good read with nail biting suspense and romance.

Missing, by Dee Henderson
There's nothing missing from this novella! Dee is at the top of her game with this police procedural suspense. I love the way a Dee Henderson story evolves from her carefully laid out recounting of events, in this case the disappearance of Martha Graham, the mother of Wyoming police chief, John Graham.

From the first page I was swept up in the search for Martha and all the amazing police efforts to track her whereabouts and activities leading up to her disappearance from her Chicago retirement village. The interaction between John and Lt. Sharon Noble, the officer in charge of the case, slowly builds in personal attraction in classic Dee Henderson style, with the suspense the primary focus while the romantic relationship slips in more subtly.

I enjoyed the intriguing twist that the answer to the case didn't turn out to be "black and white", with a lot of grey area that doesn't usually appear in criminal or police issue, providing excellent insight to the many reasons people make the choices they make. First class, brilliantly told, page-turning suspense, reminiscent of Dee's abduction stories told in Taken and Unspoken. I can't wait to read her next book, Traces of Guilt, already on my kindle.

Shadowed, by Dani Pettrey
To say I was thrilled when I learned Dani Pettrey would be telling Libby and Ben McKenna's story in this prequel to her Alaskan Courage series, would be an understatement. I absolutely loved her telling of the five McKenna siblings, Cole, Piper, Gage, Kayden and Reef's, stories. The unique Alaskan setting for Dani's stories, with all its adventurous challenges, combined with dramatic suspenseful situations were so good I didn't want the series to end. Shadowed is the perfect opportunity for McKenna fans to learn how it all began.

Dani turns back the clock to 1979, Yancey, Alaska. Libby, a competitive open water swimmer, sets out to take a whale watching tour given by handsome fisherman, Ben McKenna. Their attraction is obvious from the start. Throw in the discovery of a fellow swimmers' body found at sea and a storm packing tsunami size waves and the murder investigation of Russian swimmer, Kat, and there's the making of a fantastic suspenseful mystery, just waiting to be unraveled.

The Shadowed setting is breath-taking, its characters so realistic they leap off the page and the mystery was a challenge to figure out. I loved how the relationship between Libby and Ben formed, initially from working together to figure out what happened to Kat, into so much more.

I loved how they talked about their future hopes and dreams. Such a swoon-worthy way to bridge the past McKenna story to future ones. A phenomenal story from the talented Dani Pettrey!

I have always been a huge fan of Dee Henderson. I love the O'Malleys and was moved consistently by the emotion in their stories. Her recent works seem more like business deals than romantic encounters. Everything is discussed in terms that lack emotion and feelings. Very disappointed
