Great game but there is a milestone of potential that ...
Recensito nel Regno Unito 🇬🇧 il 2 marzo 2015
Great game but there is a milestone of potential that could have easily been met with a little bit of consistency and deeper game design.
The game is nice, but it gets very repetitive and there are a scarce amount of original map designs and doing the same maps over and over gets a little mundane.
The abductors AI is a joke, and somebody needs to seriously slap the Devs behind this in the face at least a dozen times. It's probably the only downside to this game, the AI is so arbitrarily coded/designed, Abductors with Artillery, Lasers, MLRS and other devastating weaponry systems that can literally one-shot you, and they spend 99% of the time jumping up and down or running around in circles like some man-child throwing a tantrum. If the abductors ACTUALLY used their arsenal, they would be 100x harder to take down, but when they spend the whole time literally jumping just to knock you off your feet when trying to sever their parts, cripple/drag them, or simply because you prefer using a melee over a ranged weapon, then this would probably be the best game ever. The game's level of fun and difficulty starts to drop drastically, it no longer becomes fun, it starts to become mundane.
Another point that enforces the poor AI system is how the game heavily comprises itself around a co-operative environment. There isn't really an ideal level, stage or point in the game where you fly solo/lone-wolf for a productive amount of time, for it to either become fun or challenging.
Your comrades or "fellow sinners" AI is so under-par in comparison as well, when the game starts to begin it's end-game phase, they become more of a liability towards you and your post-game grading system. They all eventually become melee spamming twerps, they lose priority over reviving their comrades and their respective accessories, and worst of all, they don't help you and don't follow your orders.
As I said, it's an amazing game, the graphics are perfect, simple and not overly convoluted or attached to trying to make an eye fetish environment.
The character/accessory design is very fun, and cool.
I love the RP side of the game around buying entitlements to actually live a certain lifestyle, like the right to sleep whilst lying down, and the punishment system is kinda harsh, yet funny and maintains it's entertaining cliche. Although it feels more like an introductory phase and doesn't really last long, it was relatively funny. I felt that the game kind of pushed the storyline WAY too fast... but most Asian games fall into this trap of shoving it's plot down your throat so fast, and then somewhere in the middle, easily loses it's train of thought
If you're a gamer that likes a little bit of fun mosh-pit style fps (or third person shooter) type games, this game is a great time sink. And will keep you involved for a long time.
But if you're a heavy RP fanatic, this game will hardly last long, and probably spend most of it's time on the shelf catching dust.
The key word is potential, there is so much in this game. But I doubt it will go anywhere when it's multiplier environment is restricted on a PSV.
If it was on PS4/XB1 or even PC. And it's potential was met with a larger environment, more maps and gametypes, and a lot more co-operative content. This game could easily knock a game like Destiny, COD or BF into the trashcan

Good game, hours of game play.

I saw this game been reviewed on Imagination an NHK program. It looked very interesting there. So when I got my PSP Vita this was the first game I bought for it.
The game is set in a future where people have to prove their worth to society. So you have to work and fight for the state. At the beginning of the game you have to select the region you want to be assiciated with. This becomes more important later in the game. There is an on-line mode, which you have to register for to be able to make any progress with the game after the first few missions.
At it's core this is a fighting game. Which includes the usual weapon and abilitiy upgrades as you progress through the game. The story is very interesting, and is compelling, making you to want to know more and keep playing. The game play is demanding, but not impossible.

Freedom Wars is an action monster-hunting RPG. Set in a dystopian future, the world has become a wasteland of scarce resources and cities have become prison-type institutions called Panopticons. Prisons because, when you are born, as a potential dent in scarce resources, you are given a prison sentence of 1 million years.
As a prisoner, you have no entitlements, not even to leave your cell, or to lie down. Attempting to do any of these without the appropriate entitlement granted will result in a further extension of your sentence.
You pick your Panopticon, you create your character and are assigned your accessory. Later you will be able to take part in Volunteer Missions, which are a good way to work off your sentence and thereby gain more entitlements. Volunteer operations include, destroying Abductors, reclaiming citizens, escort missions and point control. An abductor is a machine which is used to gather resources, but a lot of them are weaponized in order to fight off rival panopticons in defence of the scarce resources. Citizens are also resources in this aspect, as they are very knowledgeable in the development of weapons and facilities within Panopticons.
Gameplay involves a variety of weapons, assault and sniper rifles, rocket and grenade launchers, miniguns and melee weapons including knives, chainsaws, katana, spears among others. These can be used to defeat enemies, Abductors. In defeating an Abductor, you can target specific parts in order to get unique items salvaged from those parts in order to manufacture, upgrade and modify current weapons and/or supplies, such as med kits ammo boxes, turrets, grenades...
TLDR
The game has a lot of depth; a very good story and a striking soundtrack. Enjoyable with or without friends.
Highly recommended.

Not as challenging as many describe, a hidden gem on the dying Vita.
Recensito nel Regno Unito 🇬🇧 il 19 giugno 2015
I'll keep it short and sweet as the lengthy replies will have covered almost everything already. This game is not as hard as people make it out to be. I've heard G-rank hunters calling this game the hardest hunter game out there but I've played both the hardest missions of this game as well as Monster Hunter and I can tell you that it is not true. While it is still a challenge requiring you to focus on the enemy at all times you can have up to 6 AI or human controlled players with you in the missions (AI for offline, human for online). Last time I checked Monster Hunter had you perform all story missions on your own. In my opinion taking a monster on by yourself is the real challenge here. Don't let the reviews scare you. This is definitely a game you want to pick up for a Vita. It is without a doubt one of the best Vita games ever made.

I love this game and have spent numerous hours grinding to get the Uber gear needed for the higher level enemies.
The graphics are great, one of PS Vitas' best in my opinion.
The game play would be pretty standard button mashing if it wasn't for the Thorn; this is the best fighting mechanic of any game I have played in a long time giving you the ability to attack from a distance, use to pull over larger enemies and even revive fallen comrades.
The back story is brilliant with you being a 'Sinner'. Society has collapsed through war and famine, the world has been divided into Panopticons; massive underground facilities housing the best and brightest 'citizens' and the drains on society 'sinners'. You as a sinner have a million year sentence that you must deplete by taking part in contributions, which can be anything from stopping an invasion by another panopticon, to rescuing kidnapped citizens.
Online is great fun whether you are fighting in co-op with other users or PvP.
Two complaints; 1 - The high level AI sinners are far to overpowered, the fighting mechanic for sinner v's sinner could do with some work.
2 - The online connection can be sketchy, i have had several disconnects and several times where i haven't been able to get online at all.
All in all, if you have a Vita and enjoy third person fighting games, buy this. You are missing out. plus a few more affiliates online is always good.
