Sinossi

What if Mr. Bennet went missing and the Bennet women had to leave Longbourn? In this intriguing refashioning of Jane Austen’s classic, Mr. Darcy meets a melancholic but spirited Elizabeth Bennet who has vowed to remain a spinster until she finds her father.

A debauchery at a masquerade forces the couple to marry. Will Elizabeth resent Mr. Darcy’s arrogance, which forced her to break her vow? Will she find her father, with his help?

This sexy and inventive Pride and Prejudice what-if story, set just after the Napoleonic Wars, takes the perennial favorite in a new direction with captivating plot twists and passionate romance.

Enid Wilson loves sexy romance. Her writing career began with a daily newspaper, writing educational advice for students. She then branched out into writing marketing materials and advertising copy.

Enid’s novels has been ranked in the top 50 best-selling historical romances on Amazon USA, the top 30 best-selling Regency romances on Amazon Canada, the top 21 romantic short stories on Amazon UK and the top 39 British mysteries on Amazon.

The except of the book is the best part. It amazes me that the author is so widely known for her P&P fanfiction. I have read many, many much more well written on fanfiction.net...for free and unpublished.

Don't get me wrong, I can appreciate a sexy story, and I in fact write my own, which is why I was so surprised and disappointed with this. You know those scenes that give you goosebumps and make your heart race in excitement because they are so hot?? Ms Wilson has several love scenes in this book, but again, the only good one was in the excerpt. They are generally graphic without being sexy. I can't even explain how that is possible, because I don't know.

I skipped through some of the book towards the end, I knew everything would end happily ever after, and I just wanted to be done. The resolution is strange, the conversations of mediocre writing, and the storyline, though with the potential to be good, ends up being too fantastical and easy at the same time. I got the distinct impression that perhaps the writer herself got tired of writing it and just wanted to tie up loose ends and be done.

The Wickham bit is probably the most interesting and unique part of the story, aside from the masquerade ball. So much potential, it really was disappointing. I will not buy or read this author again.

I thoroughly got a kick out of this book. Some fascinating character switch-ups and oohs la la, some scrumptious Darcy/Lizzy romps after they tie the knot. Lots of sassy dialogue that had me laughing out loud. A mystery to be solved where the author gives occasional tantalizing clues as she leads you deeper into her novel plot line.

In my opinion, this was one of Enid Wilson's better books. Like "Fire and Cross", it had intrigue, mystery and some great character development. Enid is known for her Sci.Fi. and "Steamy Darcy" novels. Although not set in the far future, the initial premise is a little out of the ordinary and does not follow the canon. In this variation, Mr. Bennet has been missing for 6 years, leaving the Bennet women to essentially "fin for themselves" in the seaside town of Broadstairs. It is told through Lizzy's eyes. As the story opens, Colonel Forster has planned a masquerade ball to bring young people together. His goal is to boost the marriage market and replinish the diminished male population with children.(perils of war) Unknown to the guests, the food and drinks are laced with something that causes all who ingest to become amorous. (some suggestive sex scenes) All in all, several mock marriages take place and guests leave the ball in a daze. Even though Darcy and Lizzy start out with their usual "Love/Hate" relationship, our leading characters have been caught in one such marriage and leave the party only to realize on the next morning what has happened. From here on the plot becomes a little more realistic as relationships evolve and new twists emerge envolving familiar characters and culprits. ??? Was Lizzy compromised? Is the marriage legal? Will it be acknowledged or abandoned? What will happen to the Bennet women? What ever happened to Mr. Bennet? Will he be found or this a "who done it" book? Just what is Lizzy's vow? This book is not for the Austen purist but is definitely a good read. Thanks Enid!

Along with a very passionate Darcy and Elizabeth comes the mystery of Mr. Bennett's disappearance. I enjoyed the way clues were given throughout the story so that my suspicion fell on various characters along the way, from Collins to Wickham to several others. We don't learn until the end who is really the responsible party and then all questions are answered in the epilogue. I was quite unhappy with the beginning of this story as our most beloved characters behaved in a disturbingly reprehensible manner. A fair explanation is given and the story proceeds in a likable enough way afterwards but I find that even after having completed it book I am uncomfortable with their behavior. Other than that it seemed true to their personalities and I recommend it to lovers of P&P.

I enjoyed this story. It was an easy read and quite different from most JAFF. One thing I have always admired about Enid's stories is how inventive her plots are. This one is as well. The difference is that this story is a bit more grounded in conventional story telling. As such, it held greater appeal for me. I hope to one day write a mystery, and I was interested in learning how Ms. Wilson handled the task.

The story started out with an event that I assumed would set the tone. It was typical of the author's specialty--a very wild and erotic ball where Darcy and Elizabeth meet. Though not particularly believable, it was quite amusing and enjoyable to read. Then out of the blue, the story became a very logical and decently developed mystery. What I loved most was that simultaneously with Darcy and Lizzy acting as a team to try to learn what had happened to her father they are also learning about each other (the hallmark of Austen's Pride and Prejudice). I truly loved how those two mysteries are interwoven and being unravelled simultaneously. The multi-purpose dialogue was delightful. Bravo, Enid!!
