I'm pretty much posting this same review for all of this series I've read so far. They have several characteristics in common, and it holds true for each of them. It's obvious the author Dan Eitreim knows the subjects. Each of the books has probably 70 to 80% of what you could expect to learn from just reading any book on an aspect of photography. Taken as a whole the series represents a worthwhile resource to advance your photography knowledge or technique.

He makes the ebooks available at very significant discount on a rotating basis. Subscribing to his email newsletter brings you photography tips, and a heads up when a discounted book becomes available. I find this method has good points and bad points.
Good points: Very affordable, can acquire just the subjects of interest, not an overwhelming amount of information at one time. Easy to read.

Bad points: Every book has 30 to 35% taken up with an off subject 15% lead in, and 20% lead out. After 20 books the novelty of this has worn off.

The series of 20+ books (minus the boiler plate and perhaps edited a little) would make good chapters in a single very respectable textbook on photography. Certainly worth your time to read. If in a hurry to learn about a specific subject and can't wait for the rotation, it's likely worth your money too.

As with all his photography books, Dan does not miss a trick in improving your photography! You think you have it all covered, until you read another of his books. There are so many things to take into account in GOOD photography. This book is just another example of what to look for and how to do it right, the first time! This book takes you through things you never even thought about. Dan is very easy to understand, very precise in what he is teaching you, AND WHY! Using a personal notebook of notes, as he teaches, is a must! The volume of knowledge, in all of his writings, is astronomical. Great book, Great instructor!! If you're serious about being a better photographer, you turn to him.

When I was younger in the 50's, we owned a trailer park. A photographer came thru town taking kids photos with his pony. Here's where my interest in photography began. He took me into his darkroom and mentored me into getting my first Brownie-Hawkeye. The author of this book does a similar thing. He explains whats good; whats bad; shows you examples; and helps you to develop your own skill for when a pose might not match the "rules." I recommend this book for beginners and oldsters. If you didn't know the info, it's good to be told early. If you did know it, it's good to be reminded.

Again I learn more about posing, (this time about the upper appendages), just in time to share what I have gained with the young photography students in my 4H group. This book came to me just at the right time as we are readying to 're create portraits from the gold rush days.

I find that knowing how to pose the arms and hand will add to the small details that will make all the difference for my students. These are things I didn't learn in school and this series of books has helped make a world of difference.

A definite must read if you want to take better portraits.
