2.0 su 5 stelle Tom Hilpert's best book by far is his first 6 aprile 2016

Way too repetitive. The beginning was interesting. Even when pastor, his g/f and the couples got into the tiny boat it seemed ok
But then the story really went downhill. Too much detail went into describing the use of the boat. During this time, the bank robbers (involved earlier in the story, now apparently disguise as married couples seeking a cruise) were wielding guns and threatening everyone's lives.
All in all the story is too far fetched.

Having lived in Duluth Minnesota from 30 years this book was wonderful. I could picture the scenes in my minds eye the Highway 61 which we travel on every October. Split Rock lighthouse, Two Harbors. Duluth. The forest and its trails. The vast beauty of Lake Superior shores Pastor Jonah lives on. The story is intriguing and keeps you turning the page! I enjoy the gentle way Tom brings faith in God into the story along with its humor of them dar Luth-A-rens don't cha know! Jonah's desire and struggle to do the right thing in no matter what situation he is in is to say the least refreshing! Thoroughly enjoy the Superior series and hope there is another one in the works!

This is the 2nd book by this author with Jonah, a Lutheran pastor. Read them in order - it helps. I would give this book 3.5 stars. I would recommend for a light, good mystery - and Jonah has landed in the middle of another crime. Parts of the story were just a bit the middle of a storm on Lake Superior - he is rescued in his life raft, gets on a freighter, calls the coast guard and then is silently reinserted back on the sailboat - all without no one really missing him.... He's a pastor for heaven's sake, not James Bond. That aside, I enjoyed this book and encourage the author to keep writing and I will look for more by him.

"Superior Justice" was my first time reading a Tom Hilpert novel. Immediately after finishing it, I went on line and purchased the second volume in this series. The author expertly crafts a story woven from humor, inspiration, vivid geographic description, recipes, manly insights and law. This was a good read, intelligently written and brilliant in its delivery. While reading Hilpert's book, I went fishing, drank more coffee than I ever imagined and literally laughed out loud on more than one occasion. This author knows how to write in such a way that you are right there, up front in the narrative. Hilpert conveys a story in such a way that makes you think about the characters and events long after having finished the book. The writing and story telling is so gratifying, I savored this book at first but midway through, couldn't keep my self from feasting on what remained. Tom Hilpert just made my fave authors list!

Jonah Borden is not your typical minister - he goes where the need is, even if that means offering informal counseling sessions in the town watering hole, rather than setting himself up as being holier-than-thou. He's a fully-dimensional character with flaws, strengths, a sense of humor even in the darkest moments and a love of strong coffee, also even in the darkest moments.

The book starts out with him talking an elderly parishioner into placing a huge sum of cash she has tucked away in a mattress in the bank. She talks him into depositing the money for her, and while he is in line to do so, a gang storms the bank and takes money from the customers, including his parishioner's cash. Gunfire is exchanged, Jonah wings one of the robbers and the day goes downhill from there.

The author deftly the day-to-day life of a minister into the mystery, with a light touch. No heavy-handed proselytizing here. A subplot involves Jonah coming to terms with the loss of his wife in a violent crime, and his taking tentative steps towards a new life with his "friend with a future," Layla Bennett.

When I wasn't reading this book, I was thinking about reading this book, wondering what was going to happen to Jonah, Layla, the elderly woman who lost her money, and Jonah's new kitty. I found the ending very satisfying and it left me wanting more. I noticed a previous reviewer downgraded this book because of the profanity. Other than a few well-placed, G-rated exclamations that were germane to the plot (and appropriate to the situation), I didn't see too much to get offended at. For me, the language just made Jonah more human and the book more realistic. I would definitely re-read this. And if you haven't read Superior Justice yet, get that too.
