5.0 su 5 stelle This is the music I had been longing for but didn't know existed 8 ottobre 2014
Di Stephanie Johnstone - Pubblicato su Amazon.com
For anyone who is into gorgeous/non-schlocky musical theater (LaChiusa, Guettel, Bernstein, the Sondheim canon), run, do not walk, to acquire this album!! The first time I heard the score, I felt like I had come home to music that I had been longing for but didn't know existed. I have listened to nothing else for over a week!

It is so rare to encounter such a singular voice in musical theater, and Marisa Michelson is just that. The nuanced textural vocabulary that she created is captivating from the very first second of the album, and the intense beauty and excellence sustains itself through soulful song after soulful song. Intricately expansive and expansively intricate.

The singing on the recording is extraordinary as well - Michelson taught a specific vocal philosophy to all of the actors, which means every sound holds the same fiercely embodied integrity as every note of the score.

5.0 su 5 stelle A groundbreaking recording by a composer worth watching 10 ottobre 2014
Di Shawn Shafner - Pubblicato su Amazon.com
I got this album three weeks ago and it's literally all I have listened to since. As other reviewers said, this is for those who are excited by the future possibilities of musical theater. Lovers of Guettel, LaChiusa and Sondheim, or musicians like Meredith Monk, John Adams and Steve Reich will adore this album. And those more accustomed to traditional musical theater sounds may just become believers in a new era of storytelling through music. Michelson's score SINGS from beginning to end in gorgeous enveloping tones, and surprising melodies that seem to have sprouted right up from the ground. Cohen's lyrics are smart, poetic and deeply evocative. Margo Seibert's singing is a force of nature, and Margot Bassett's soprano may be one of the most beautiful instruments I've ever heard. So...why are you still reading? Buy this album and join the club of obsessed fans!

5.0 su 5 stelle I was fortunate enough to have seen the production of this show ... 21 ottobre 2014
Di Sophie Frost - Pubblicato su Amazon.com
I was fortunate enough to have seen the production of this show off broadway. We should all be ecstatic that this album was made. Michelson's music is really unlike anything else you will hear. All her own voice. It's so wonderful to hear such a fresh new talent on the scene. This score is haunting and enveloping in such a beautifully organic way that you will be left wanting to hear it again and again. The finale (ultimately a duet between Tamar and the River) will be on repeat for a while. The future of women composers and the future of broadway composers is in great hands with Marisa Michelson.

5.0 su 5 stelle TAMAR is a new kind of music drama 2 dicembre 2014
Di Ian Axness - Pubblicato su Amazon.com
This is contemporary vocal music on a spiritual level, the unfolding of a beautiful dramatic fable through a unique and totally awesome expression of choral ensemble. The diverse instrumental ensemble plays the show's beautiful (and often complex) arrangements with heart and technical precision, and Margo Seibert's performance as Tamar is both intimate and thrilling. If you listen to opera or musical theatre or mystery plays or oratorios or non-Western folk musics or any kind of throat singing or weird/cool vocal technique, you're going to want to hear this! What a gorgeous recording!
