Recensione

"Blackburn and Epel demonstrate that how we live each day has a profound effect not just on our health and well-being, but how we age, as well. It's a manual for how to live younger and longer."―

Arianna Huffington

"A classic. One of the most exciting health books to emerge in the last decade. It explains how we can slow the way we age at a fundamental level."―
Eric Kandel, Nobel laureate and author of In Search of Memory

"THE TELOMERE EFFECT explains the often-invisible things that affect all of our lives, helping us make better choices individually and socially for greater health and longevity. It will change the way we think of aging and disease."―David Kessler, MD, JD, former FDA commissioner and New York Times bestselling author of The End of Overeating

"A revolutionary set of findings-with a wealth of science-based suggestions-that can transform the way we live our lives, shaping the very health of our cells by how we use our minds."―Daniel J. Siegel, MD, New York Times bestselling author of Brainstorm

"This book is revolutionary, transforming the way our world thinks about health and living well, disease, and death. It reveals a stunning picture of healthy aging-it's not simply about individuals, it's about how we are connected to each other, today and through future generations. It is hard to overstate this book's importance."―Dean Ornish, MD, founder and president, Preventive Medicine Research Institute, and New York Times bestselling author of The Spectrum

"An extraordinary, illuminating synthesis of biological and psychosocial factors that enhance healthful longevity by their effects on telomeres. These new advances in knowledge enable people to attain longer, healthier lives."
Albert Bandura, professor emeritus, Stanford University, United States National Medal of Science awardee

"THE TELOMERE EFFECT gives us, in high relief and with exactly the practical level of detail we need, the long and the short of a new science revealing that how we live our lives, both inwardly and outwardly, individually and collectively, impinges significantly on our health, our well-being, and even our longevity. Mindfulness is a key ingredient, and importantly, issues of poverty and social justice are shown to clearly come into play as well. This book is an invaluable, rigorously authentic, and at its core, exceedingly compassionate and wise contribution to our understanding of health and well-being.
Jon Kabat-Zinn, author of Full Catastrophe Living

5.0 su 5 stelle Fascinating and Helpful Book! Read It! 7 gennaio 2017
Di Merry Nolte - Pubblicato su Amazon.com
Formato: Copertina rigida Acquisto verificato
The Telomere Effect is a fascinating blend of cutting-age science and lifestyle coach. The science deals with the amazing world of telomeres, tiny areas at the tips of our chromosomes that determine how fast our cells age and die. But telomeres aren't some kind of immutable pre-coded devices that, once activated, can't be altered to slow the aging process. We can improve and maintain the health of our telomeres, and maximize what the authors describe as our "healthspans," the number of years of healthy living we can enjoy.

While we were each dealt a particular genetic hand at birth, there are still ways we can enhance and prolong our healthspans. Some we already know about, such as diet and exercise. And it's not too late to start. The book demonstrates how changes in eating and physical activity can slow down or even reverse the aging trajectory. The authors include lots of examples and tips to help make these changes.

Of equal, if not more importance, is the psychological component--the management of stress. The authors make a compelling case that telomere health can be greatly affected by relaxation, meditation, and other stress reduction techniques, truly a mind over matter phenomenon.

Written simply and eloquently in language that even a liberal art major can comprehend, this is the most "understandable" science book I've ever read. It's also very empowering, because we are convincingly shown how our active choices can promote a longer and healthier life, rather than passive acquiescence in the aging process.

Lower your stress, get enough sleep, moderate exercise, and eat right. Nothing new here.

Mildly interesting on how these affect telomere length.

5.0 su 5 stelle The How-To Manual for Long Telomeres! 6 gennaio 2017
Di Bill Andrews - Pubblicato su Amazon.com
Formato: Copertina rigida Acquisto verificato
Excellent book to help you guide yourself through a life style that will keep your telomeres long. There is no other book like this. It’s a must read if your goal is to live healthy and better as long as possible. It is very well written and very easy for the non-scientist (as well as the scientist) to follow. The great analogies make everything clearer. I started reading it only two days ago and couldn’t put it down. My favorite line in the book was “Caregiving is one of the most profound stresses a person can experience” in Chapter 4. And, it shows in your telomeres. I know many people that are caring (or have cared ) for love ones and the authors give you every reason why you need to care for yourself too. Don’t just read this book - Live by this book!

5.0 su 5 stelle TAKE THIS GIFT & USE IT!!! 20 aprile 2017

Thank you Elizabeth & Elissa for your contribution to world health! We owe you for your stellar scientific achievements. Reader: Do not let the science in this book throw you. Go over it until it makes sense. Use your digital dictionaries. I am thrilled to know why I am younger looking by 20 years & able to function better by far than most people at 71. With the author's superior knowledge & advice, I am confident I now understand how to continue a rich-full evenly balanced life-of-heath!

The more you follow their advice the better you feel & do. It is exciting to feel healthy like when you were young. However, as the saying goes something like this - "youth is wasted on the young". They don't know how lucky they are, but you will know how lucky you are if you apply what you learn out of this book! It is exciting to know that most everyone will be able to turn the clock back to a youthful healthy feel by undoing the demise of their telomeres & growing longer ones using this info.

So exciting that this information will become the standard embedded into our cultures worldwide because seniors everywhere will grab health in place of complacent decline. Let's not follow our elders step into the past (ugh!) unless they were good examples like my mom who brought aerobics to hundreds. Learn to live well on your own terms until you die.
Its outlined in this book! You can do it. Just focus; be in the now. Some of these things you probably already are doing. Take comfort in that & move on to a higher plain until you reach your goal: don't worry, the way you feel will be your motivation.
I have experienced decline; I prefer health! I am confident these fine hard working female scientists have honestly devoted themselves to helping YOU! Enjoy your good health: Take it back. You can go from bad to good awesome health & KNOW how very funs it is to stay healthy. Spend your money here! Don't waste one more day being sick!

My opinion: medical personnel including doctors(s) should be reading this book & helping people align with these practices. Some are already doing it! Enjoy Health, Enjoy Life! Celebrate!, you will be confident to live on.

5.0 su 5 stelle Telomere Benchmarks and their Application 16 gennaio 2017

I've been reading about telomeres for a couple of years now and after the Blackburn's article appeared in the AARP magazine I decided to get the book to learn more. The book was well written and I believe is understandable for the lay public. I especially enjyoued the basic descriptions of the telomeres and telomerase and the charts presented for self-evaluation.
